Bulls 105, Rockets 102
Sorry about the lack of a game thread today. No excuses, just spaced on doing it before heading to the UC tonight.
Obviously a fantastic finish for the Bulls, it's amazing what a team can do when they have a competent lineup out there to close a game. That Derrick Rose kid, I think he can help us in 4th quarters!

great 4th quarter….
d-rose playing like that is just amazing…
i really loved how he succeeded with the lack of some very obvious foul calls
Chicago... Where giving up career nights happens
with every game
it seems more and more evident that Ben Gordon and Derrick Rose can’t co-exist on the same court at the same time
Bosh in 2010
That is right. Gordon is not going to defer to Rose, Gordon does not intend to defer to Rose...
Gordon is jealous of Rose….so Gordon got to go. Notice in the games, whenever Derrick Rose makes a good play that Ben comes right behind him and tries to do the same thing ….as to say…I can do whatever you can do.
Gordon jealous of Rose? Without Gordon's play, you don't win this game.
Contrary to popular belief, Rose didn’t win it by himself. Gordon scored double figures in the 4th too. If that’s jealousy then Rose needs to be more jealous himself and play like he did tonight more often.
true
the Bulls only need one above-average player. Everyone else can stand in the corners I suppose.

Yeah I guess Gordon wanted to be the man so bad that he took a whopping 13 shots.
What a jealous ballhog;)
You know whether you like Gordon or not and think Rose is the greatest player ever
The fact remains that you’re going to need someone that can score points in volume from long range to play alongside Rose. A guy scores 16 effective points and most of them when it counts, looks pretty darn good to me.
Are there ineffective points
that do not count towards the final score?
Maybe we can (but probably not)?

I just think its a lot of speculation
Hes a scorer so hes going to be that way I think and we’ve seen a lot of times players on this team not stick with the hot hand. This time around Gordon was producing as well though. He sparked the run I had thought. If Gordon does nothing and says go Rose for 6 minutes I’m not sure if we win this game. I think he was just pulling his own weight.
Well,
it really worked horrible this game.

well, someone has to play the backup 3 minutes
and i’d prefer it NOT to be a 3 guard lineup of rose, gordon, and hinrich. which means it has to be one of the thomases playing the 3.
"They should. They better. I'm Vinny Del Negro!"
I agree
Why not give Tyrus some burn at the 3. They had him guarding Lebron, so why can’t he try and guard the rest of the Non-LeBron 3’s out there? I would guess that he would still be the same as he is now on offense.
i haven't liked it in the past
but i’d certainly do it in a pinch. it takes away from his natural weak side help if he’s too far out on the perimeter, and with noah and miller in the lane he’ll be brought out on offense also. however, if he’s able to hit a midrange shot with consistency, he’ll be ok. i hated him at the 3 last year but his shot continues to improve.
"They should. They better. I'm Vinny Del Negro!"
Forgot to mention...
I thought Tyrus did as good of a job on LeBron as anyone on our team, and a lot of other teams for that matter. So my point I guess was that if he can guard 3’s, he should be able to play some minutes there.
but yeah, it means salmons exclusively at the 3 prob
which does mean more hinrich… sucks…
"They should. They better. I'm Vinny Del Negro!"
but its going to be more minutes for hinrich playing 2 guard
Salmons moves in for deng at 3 so kirk moves in for salmons at 2 which means MORE ROSE at 1!
Except that means less Gordon
And Hinrich sucks at the 2, and the 1……..and well anywhere.

And if he sucks, let’s just play Lindsay Hunter. [No, seriously.]

Seriously, this isn’t just to robinhood, although I’d like to hear you opinion. I read espn.com everyday and enjoy it. SI.com is the one that sucks in my opinion. I never agree with them, so I stopped reading it.
But I would love to hear the reasons why so many people on BaB hate ESPN. They are funny and seem to have a lot of coverage. No one person’s opinion or analysis is perfect and espn has lot of contributors, so you can here many perspectives. Also, you learn who you agree with most and read them most frequently. At least that’s what I do.

You forgot "Lebron, Lebron, Lebron, etc"
They also ran more than 10 “The rookie”-shows on Beasley. And none on Rose! (Ticked me off)
That's because Beasley is crazy!
He’s an out there dude. He isn’t afraid to say crazy things. It’s like Arenas (not quite as crazy or funny) but you get my drift. Rose is soft spoken, defers all the time, humble to a fault and is generally only a few steps up from a Corbin Dallas interview with Chris Tucker from Fifth Element. We love him because he is awesome and a Bull. But fans of other teams don’t care about him saying that “Gooden is a great guy and he has really helped me a lot this year and I just try to listen to all the guys and learn all I can” in a aw shucks kind of manner. It’s not good television/entertainment, which is what sports is.
Let's see. 90's?
Jordan, Jordan, Jordan, Jordanaires, Bulls, Bulls, Bulls, Jordan, etc. etc. etc.
I’m not mad, I loved every minute of it. But the fact of the matter is, NY will always get stories run because of there size and fan base. And the other teams you mentioned are winners! If we get back to winning and Rose becomes as special as we hope (and we get Bosh and Wade somehow in 2010) then we’ll see all the Bulls talk again.

Given that the "system" seems to call for a player who's a largely one-on-one guy
Salmons will probably look better than Deng has most of the year.
The Bulls were pretty much set at the shooting guard position before Salmons even came
It made sense that Salmons would get time at the 3, which is what has been happening.
only if you consider hinrich qualified to actually play shooting guard.

I say we move Deng this offseason.
In addition to being pretty inconsistent, this latest injury is only adding to the “injury prone” label for Deng. I feel like he is COMPLETELY replaceable. First of all, I hope Luol Deng recovers. As much as I harp on him, I do not want the man to not be able to play basketball. I wish him a speedy recovery. But I hope the Bulls look to deal Deng this offseason.

In order to move him, somebody would have to be willing to take that contract
which is no given in this NBA. Deng’s contract is rapidly becoming one of the worst in the league.

Deng is our team's Shane Battier
As in an efficient, sneaky, non-stat good player. Unfortunately, he’s not as good as Shane at that, and he makes way more money. He’s not even 3rd scorer right now, which he needs to be. He really needs to actually work on his game over the summer and cutback on all the humanitarian goodness.

Luol Deng is the new Andres Nocioni. He’s one of the beloved Bulls players who everyone thinks is delightful. However, eventually everyone will realize that he’s just okay, and that we should trade him.

The difference:
Luol Deng is OK as a starter/defender. As those things, Nocioni is flat-out garbage.

Two big problems with Deng
1. He seems to be a dreadful fit for Vinnie’s “system”. This can be fixed by replacing him with a coach that understands better how to use him.
2. I once got shit for comparing him to the “injury prone” Gerald Wallace. Well, now Deng’s playing on a contract that couldn’t get fully inusured, and has yet another long-term injury. Maybe we can trade him for Greg Oden? :D
by Sports2 on Mar 1, 2009 10:31 AM CST up reply actions 1 recs
I'd like to see Deng work again in a real offense under a real coach.
He’s a third option and if he plays like he did when he was 21 (which, being 23 shouldn’t be unattainable), and you know, the last non-turmoil season, I’ll take it.
Give me 22+ from Rose, 17-18 each from Deng and Thomas, with Thomas being more of a facilitator and Deng getting his off of cuts and catch-and-shoots, 12 from Noah and another 10-15 from a SG and I’m happy with it.
I mean, if they want to start over with Rose, Thomas and Noah, sure, whatever. But I still think a 24-year-old healthy Deng (allowing that he’s probably never going to play more than 60 games anymore) is a top 7 or 8 2-way small forward in the league. You want him to be a leader and a franchise player, you’ll keep wanting. You want him to be the third option, scrappy guy who does all the little things like a Joakim Noah type, and you’ll be more than satisfied.

Very true. Very true.
I just can’t shake the visions of very-goodness I see in him.

If you think about it everything has played out for the Bulls..
against the Pacers, Magic, Wiz and Rockets you would hope for 2 of 4. Well they got 2 of 4 but not how we all thought.
Pool and a pond... Pond be good for you.
They played the Nets, too
3 out of 5 would have been nice, but I think it’s folly to ever expect anything good or bad from this team on a consistent basis.

That & he plays the same position as LeBron
Although that’s less of a consideration.

For Q-Brickerson, Al Harrington, and Jarred Jefferies?
Maybe they will
Trust me, they’ll do anything to get rid of those 3 bums
Jeffries I can see
But as long as Harrington keeps putting up the numbers he’s been putting up, I doubt that.

Donnie Walsh =/= Isiah Thomas.
The days of dumping contracts on the Knicks are over, regardless of 2010.
23-3 run to close the game.
If this right (cbssports game flow says so), not only was it a 34-14 4th quarter, but it was 99-82 with 5:58 left in the game. That’s a hell of finishing a run. Great win, but now it feels like a lot of random things must have gone our way.

Confirmed by Houston Chronicle
“The Rockets were outscored 23-3 in the final 5 ½ minutes, never stopping the Bulls again in the 11 possession after the Rockets took a 99-82 lead with 5:51 remaining.”

I went to bed with 6 minutes left in the game
Thinking I couldn’t take another heartbreaking loss.
Of course, this is when they come back and whoop some B-hind… :-/
The Rockets screwed themselves
Artest and Brooks were dumb and never tried to get the ball to Yao, he didn’t have a single touch in the 4th quarter. Bulls played great perimeter defense as well, but the Rockets played selfish ball.

whatever.
It’s the coaches fault his players choked the game away? The 3 ball is what gave them the big lead you had to think it wouldn’t fall the whole night. So when the Bulls defense locked up the arch what do you expect?
Pool and a pond... Pond be good for you.
Yeah the Rockets should have won by 50.
I would have gone Ming and Scolla all night. Thank you Artest for going cold and stupid.
Pool and a pond... Pond be good for you.
im pretty sure he didnt
have much to do with… hey ron artest since u made shots all game go cuck up some more late in a close game… they shouldve just dumped the ball to yao and go from there… i did enjoy artest pretty much refusing to leave the court without a foul call at the end. until mutumbo came and hugged him a few times.
Chicago... Where giving up career nights happens
I totally called this.
I mean, I didn’t even know there was a game, but we only beat good teams. Who are we playing next game? Bobcats/Warriors/Bucks … oh shit, we’re going 1/2 [I don’t think we can lose to the Warriors, even though they do suck].

Chicago will be a dangerous team in the playoffs
We always lose to crappy teams but manages to either beat or stay competitive againsts playoff teams lol. I think we have beaten every playoff team in the east except boston and maybe hawks
If we get there,
we really will be.
As long as we don’t face Boston, we can take everybody else out.

Bulls
In my humble basketball opinon the Bulls can make the playoffs if they bench Ben Gordon if you notice the ball flows much better when he is out of the game. The big guys (Noah, Thomas) play a lot better when there not trying to run and chase down his 1 on 4 shot attempts I know Gordon is playing for a contract but it’s a team and yes there is no I in team and ain’t no we either….Go Bulls
Please wait
until Gordon doesn’t practically win the game for us to say that in a gamethread.

I Completely Agree
Winning one game doesn’t make him a quality starter. He is a black hole on offense. I think part of the reason Deng’s game has suffered is that he gets his shots within the flow of the offense, plays a lot of minutes with Ben, and once the ball goes to Ben it doesn’t come out.
Two Things
(1) I can’t find the stats on how many touches he had last night, but Gordon played under 30 minutes so 13 is not an amazingly low number of shots. (2) His shooting percentage is in no way relevant to my point that his shots come outside of the bulls offensive flow and negatively effect Deng’s game (unless you are attempting to make the point that over the course of the season that Gordon’s 1-on-1 play is a more efficient mode of scoring than Dengs shots within the offense, but that still doesn’t really oppose my statement and is terribly supported by the shooting statistics from a single game).
Deng could be out for the season
Honestly, Salmons is the better player at this point, so I’m not sure it’s much of a loss. Vinny will have no choice but to tighten up the rotation a bit, so hopefully there will be no more hockey-style line changes.

The more players we have injured,
the better our team plays [and the less Vinny can screw with them].
Maybe we need more injuries.

As long as the injuries are NOT to key players:
Rose
Tyrus
Gordon
Noah
and since Deng is out, Salmons.
Maybe we can (but probably not)?

Just 4 games in, mind you, but Salmons PER is 23.0 as a Bull.
Amazing, that the Bulls have upgraded their SF slot with a guy pushing 30 that was looking like a journeyman.
This is probably unwarranted, but with Deng’s injury I’ve noticed how much of nothing he’s done so far. His TSperc, eFGperc, ASTperc, TRBperc, USGperc, and Drtg are all at their worst of his career this season. It doesn’t make sense that his worth isn’t increasing as he hits his prime, which makes me hope that he’s been severely nagged by this injury throughout this whole year; because if this is the consistent type of output the Bulls are going to get from Deng until his contract is up, it’s going to suck ass being a fan.
Sorry no link for this.
But I read tonight a comment from Deng saying that he went up for a ball and he felt something. He knew it was there before, but he thought it was just a strain. So who knows, maybe it was a hair-line fracture that was causing him to be tentative and suck these last couple games and it just got bad enough tonight to warrant x-rays. I hope he gets all the way healed and can play like the old Luol.
i read that as well and that's exactly what i was thinking
he was playing so awesome when he came back from injury, so it makes sense that he struggled again if he got hurt.
"They should. They better. I'm Vinny Del Negro!"
No complaints here. The Bulls will most likely improve without him.

its says he's been injured for a while
it just gotten worse. oh well. he was actually playing good in january before disapearing in feb
If Deng was never injured, maybe he would be more consistent,
and whenever he’s not consistent it’s because of the injuries.
That’s actually a really depressing thought. …

it looks like
I missed an awesome game..
Yeeeaaaahhh
not one I’d recommend seeing though cause then you’ll be pulling your hair out for the first 3 and a half quarters.
This team is dumb as hell
Dumbest team in the league, right up there with the Knicks. We have to be down 17 to REALIZE that we have to give the ball to Derrick Rose. We NEED injuries so that our players can play better. We have a GM that needs to INSTRUCT our coach to put the best player in the game in the fourth quarter…….all this stuff is common sense.
I mean, how can you not even have common sense??? That’s what I don’t get.
And from the looks of this game, we definitely could have won the NJ and Wizards games if Rose was just a bit more AGGRESSIVE
It pisses me off just thinking about it
lol
yeah your right. they seem to win against the best and lose to the worst as well.
Every Single Thing
you mentioned has something to do with coaching.
What to do, with Larry Hughe?

Totally agree.
VDN sucks right now. He just doesn’t seem to have it… common sense, basketball IQ, understanding of flow, substitutions, who the best player is, etc, etc, etc. Even the problems that Rose has sometimes mostly seem like things that could easily be fixed with a good coaching staff.
vdn can be one hell of a coach
as long as he starts doing the opposite of whats he’s doing. Whenever he thinks of something, do the opposite. He’ll be a great coach in no time :)
soo... will this lead to a let down aganist the bobcats?
i looking for derrick to go crazy becaue of that BS call on him the last time we played.
Chicago... Where giving up career nights happens
Vdn is a dumbass but I've realize Rose just needs to take the damn ball.
Derrick is still playing like the coach really runs something. This is Derricks team and he just has to take over, like last night. This is the same Houston team that held Lebron and Cavs to 74 points. Did anybody else see Wade take over last night? I was hoping Rose would do the same thing, I knew be could, and he made me proud. Lol. Two of the best comeback wins of the year… This could be the big turn around win we needed to push for the playoffs.
a positive point about losing Deng
It gives Vinny one less option to screw things up. Less thinking for Vinny the better. I don’t like Tim T for PF. He is a soft SF in a PF body and a pea brain.
Salmons is a better Larry Hughes
And definitely shouldn’t be playing SF.

salmons
at the 3 opens up the floor a little more offensively than deng. if he can do an adequate job of defending the opposing 3, he could arguably be a net improvement over deng. i’m a deng fan, but one of my biggest concerns with him (other than his lack of lateral quickness) was his inability to shoot from the behind the three point line. if salmons can provide that threat while keeping up with his defensive assignment, and shooting his normal high percentage close to the basket, i wouldn’t be suprised to see him meet or exceed his sacramento averages while deng is out.
Our offense is 'Iso everybody! SCORE GUYS! WTF ARE YOU DOING?!?'
In this offense Salmons is better than Deng. :P
