Game Thread? Rockets @ Bulls

Uhhhh, Matt probably went on a Christian Bale rampage in honor of our fallen Bulls legends.

Rockets are 7-0 without McGrady, made LeBron James look like steaming garbage on Thursday night, and now get to play with the bipolar Bulls. Yao Ming isn't a scrub, but he could score 80 points tonight. Ron Artest will drink the blood of Luol Deng. Shane Battier won't do anything, but he's intangible so it won't matter.

Final Score: Rockets 110-Bulls 5.

Because they stink.

Luol came from the opposite side to help. Even I knew that was a bad idea.

I thought the random doubles would end when Nocioni left.

But Deng is just sucking overall tonight.

Rose did the same thing last night

It’s a good concept if the other 3 guys didn’t just stand there. If no one rotates, then it’s pointless to double.

Confusion breeds success. If they don't know each other, opponents can't have strategy. GENIUS.

I'm in the library

And even if I was at home, Comcast doesn’t give WGN for State College(at least not for the standard package).

What’s nice though— and you’ll probably get a kick out of this— is when the Cubs play at Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. Both are covered on TV at Penn State. Horray Pennsylvania!

Deng sucks.

To illustrate how bad his deal is: Luis Scola, in just a few minutes, made a nicer move than Luol has all season long. Why the hell can’t someone his size post up smaller players and score with hand? WHY?

Not a huge Deng fan

But, yes it does make sense. This is just something that I find interesting for a number of reasons.

1) a fan of this blog and the rampant cynicism/anger that permeates the halls
2) I had soured on Miller because of the way he’s playing—I don’t think it’s magic he’s playing much better now that he’s surrounded with athletic players who complement him
3) I’m curious to see how the Gordonites deal with Gordon not likely to be around after April

Can someone explain this phenomenon to me???

Why is it that NO ONE on this team passes the ball to Derrick Rose?? Not when he’s open, not when they’re double-teamed, not on a fast break, not in our crappy offense, not ever unless it’s an inbounds pass. Other than that, no one even LOOKS to pass the ball to him. Especially Ben Gordon, I don’t even remember him passing the ball to Derrick in the last 5 games. WTF?

WHY WHY WHY??

He usually makes them at a decent clip

People do shoot jumpshots in the NBA. No one attacks the paint non-stop, it’s a recipe for disaster, especially a guy as small as Rose. The bigger concern is how Deng doesn’t attack the rim at all.

by Ozzie Montana on Feb 28, 2009 8:59 PM CST up reply actions

Well Deng sucks, that's why nobody's talking about him

but Rose is actually good. I know he can hit the jumper, but he’s taking way too many. He rarely drives to the basket and has shown no ability to get to the free throw line. Just look at Russell Westbrook, another rookie, the guy is relentless at going to the basket and he’ getting to the line all the time. It’s the same with all great players.

New lineup – ROSE/GORDON/SALMON/TYRUS/MILLER
Bench = Kirk/Deng/Noah

by cloudbp on Feb 28, 2009 10:11 PM CST reply actions

Still think Noah should start.

And can we please stop playing Miller and Noah at the same time? Noah needs to stick to one position if he’s going to continue to improve.

speaking of Portland

I wonder who’s had a better career so far, LaMA or T-Time

Derrick Rose got Freakin Skillz. When are we going to add a 7th championship?

Not much

Kinda the point.

Confusion breeds success. If they don't know each other, opponents can't have strategy. GENIUS.

hmmmm..... good thing we had sally?

And do shit with them.

He had a calming influence on the team.

They really play better when his veteran presence is on the floor.

I hope you're being sarcastic

They are so calm when he’s on the floor they don’t do anything. Kirk is now better than Ben Gordon at chasing his defender after he flies past him.

Confusion breeds success. If they don't know each other, opponents can't have strategy. GENIUS.

by Ozzie Montana on Feb 28, 2009 10:19 PM CST up reply actions

That's not true

he did have one nifty fade-away that even he wasn’t ready for.

Fucking Hinrich

by NittanyCub on Feb 28, 2009 10:16 PM CST up reply actions

Playing Time

For our young players to play well they need alot of time on court. Rose didnt come off in the second half AND Tyrus & Noah with good playing time Equals a chance to win a game.

by cloudbp on Feb 28, 2009 10:16 PM CST reply actions

Hopefully Vinny's love affair with "Kurt"

and the newcomers has come to an end. Use the bench for what it’s supposed to be there for: to spell your better players until they recharge and then put them back in.

From Portland

thank you for beating the Rockets. It’s always sweet to see Artest kill his team.

by Cablinasian on Feb 28, 2009 10:22 PM CST reply actions

Artest was ridiculous tonight, in a good way

He manhandled any Bulls player that was on him. The only thing that he didn’t do right tonight, basically, was not get that 3-pointer at the end.

And why do Portlanders find it necessary to thank us? We’ll be sure to deliver the good message at the Bulls front office, stat, fine sir.

by NittanyCub on Feb 28, 2009 10:25 PM CST up reply actions

yeah

but his possessions were killing ball movement and team fluidity. He wasn’t giving it to Yao, who should have dominated Miller.

by Cablinasian on Feb 28, 2009 10:27 PM CST up reply actions

Yao didn't get a single touch in the 4th

Or only a few, at best. Brooks and Artest were retarded.

by Ozzie Montana on Feb 28, 2009 10:28 PM CST up reply actions

That's how they could beat any team

Their defense is amazing, and they have 2 great post scorers. Artest was brilliant for 3 quarters, but he lost the game for them.

Confusion breeds success. If they don't know each other, opponents can't have strategy. GENIUS.

by Ozzie Montana on Feb 28, 2009 10:31 PM CST up reply actions

I thought

this great analysis by ESPN was pretty funny:

[Rose] is nearly impossibly to stay in front of on the offensive end, and he’s a scrappy defender

Scrappy defender! Like Nocioni! Like Hinrich!

by NittanyCub on Feb 28, 2009 10:22 PM CST reply actions

At one point

I was on the bandwagon to get Deng and Hinrich to Portland… not so much anymore.

by Cablinasian on Feb 28, 2009 10:23 PM CST reply actions

nah

he’s busy trying to acquire more Euros… I would love Hinrich at four million a year. His contract is just so bad.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see him make a play for Rubio… cash in two or three assets.

by Cablinasian on Feb 28, 2009 10:25 PM CST up reply actions

Interesting, that would be a tough one to pull off though

Rubio’s gonna be top 2 most likely. Teams rarely trade high picks like that

by Juiceboxjerry on Feb 28, 2009 10:26 PM CST up reply actions

We got the seventh pick in a cash dump in 2007

I would think we’d have to get a 5-8ish pick through taking on a bloated salary, then trade that pick up to a top 3 by throwing in young players.

Memphis tried to give us the fifth pick last year in a salary dump. It was Outlaw, Lafrentz, and #13 for #5 and crap contracts.

by Cablinasian on Feb 28, 2009 10:29 PM CST up reply actions

What's funny is both would be good in Portland

But the improvements would be so marginal, it wouldn’t be a big deal.

Confusion breeds success. If they don't know each other, opponents can't have strategy. GENIUS.

by Ozzie Montana on Feb 28, 2009 10:24 PM CST up reply actions

I do agree with this

Outlaw and Blake are worse, but their contracts are less than half of Deng and Hinrich.

Outlaw is much worse defensively, though. Very similar on the offensive end, with a better three point shot.

by Cablinasian on Feb 28, 2009 10:26 PM CST up reply actions

On the halftime show. Pax was asked by Steve Kashul about Derrick Rose being...

left out of the 4th quarter and Pax told him that he “talked to Vinny” about it.

Basically……Vinny don’t fuck with Rose.

That is the ONLY reason why Rose played tonight. Pax talked to Vinny about it.

by Bart71 on Feb 28, 2009 10:23 PM CST reply actions

Yea, I just heard that too

I wish I heard the actual interview. Good news though.

"That's a spicy meatball-a!" - Vinny Del Negro

by Juiceboxjerry on Feb 28, 2009 10:25 PM CST up reply actions

Conversation probably went something like this:

Pax: “Are you trying to fucking kill me?!!”

Vinny: “No boss.”

Pax: “Then why are you sitting our best player in crunch time?”

Vinny: “Um, don’t know boss.”

Pax: “Well fucking stop doing that!!!”

Vinny: “OK, sorry boss”

I did two recaps this week. I usually don’t do weekend ones because I’m in varying degrees of self-destruction and nobody reads on the weekend anyway.

So next game does Vinny give the keys to ROSE to lead the team or does he put him on the bench alot like this past week excluding todays game

by cloudbp on Feb 28, 2009 10:35 PM CST reply actions

Yeah I always say I'm not gonna watch but then I watch

Anyway that was crazy I had to rewind it and see it again down by 17 pts with like 6 minutes left. I’ll have to console my friend whos a Rockets fan but all is well…..well except for our coaching situation.

On a random note good job by Thabo tonight had a great game.
