Around SBN: Randy Moss A Raven?

[From the fanshots. I suppose we should all be encouraged that Vinny has thoughts. I say keep the starting lineup and stop doing the hockey line substitutions. -ed]
Asked about whether he is considering a lineup change, Del Negro said: "I’ll think about that."

Del Negro made a big, early substitution with the Bulls down 18-8, lifting Deng, Tyrus Thomas and Joakim Noah, though the Bulls still trailed 27-18 after one quarter.

Del Negro went extensively with John Salmons into the second quarter, and Salmons was the best Bull player of the night with 25 points. His second quarter play helped get the Bulls within 49-45 at halftime. Though the starters held firm to open the second half and were within 57-55 four minutes in, Del Negro then brought Salmons in for Tyrus Thomas, and soon thereafter Miller for Noah and Hinrich for Gordon.

I know a certain former sixth man of the year.

Who didn’t play well last night…but his backup certainly did…

Or will Vinny go all veterany? Brad Miller is a starter in this league…Or will he really be gross and substitute one Thomas for the other?

I don’t like the sound of lineup changes right now…

New starting lineup I expect from Vinny the Ninny: (sarcasm)

Center – Aaron Gray
PF – Tim Thomas
SF – Kirk Hinrich
SG – Anthony Roberson
PG – Lindsay Hunter

I don’t like the sound of lineup changes right now…

Maybe we can (but probably not)?

by Granny Waiters on Feb 28, 2009 9:20 AM CST up reply actions

Vinny should promote one of his assistants to acting head coach

and demote himself to assistant head coach.

Maybe we can (but probably not)?

by Granny Waiters on Feb 28, 2009 9:16 AM CST reply actions

New lineup should be:

PG-Derrick Rose
SG-Ben Gordon
SF-John Salmons
PF-Tyrus Thomas
C- Joakim Noah

Benching Gordon would be the ultimate dick move. You don’t start by benching your best player.

Maybe Vinny shocks the world, and benches Rose.

Benching Deng is the most obvious one. It allows us to really space the floor with Gordon/Salmons. But it’ll probably be Thomas out and Miller in.

Yep.

The only reason to NOT bench Deng is if they hope to move him in the offseason. They they might not want to devalue him. But that’s def the best starting 5 IMO. No way he should touch Rose, BG or TT… (though Thomas has been a bit crazy with his shot selection in the last 2 games…a good coach would have a talk with him but leave him in and give him the minutes he’s earned).

by smash! on Feb 28, 2009 11:17 AM CST up reply actions

You are right.

But this is Vinny Del Negro we are talking about here…Deng is obviously the one that is struggling, but he is now a grizzled vet with a shiny new contract…

If there is a change, I would expect it to be Brad Miller for one of the young big men…

Makes sense

He can always play it off that the young guys aren’t playing hard anymore, or some crap like that.

The best thing for the Bulls to do would be to just get Rose’s confidence level back up. He’s had an awful week, and Gordon dedicating his game to Larry Hughes the past 2 games doesn’t help anyone, either.

Confusion breeds success. If they don't know each other, opponents can't have strategy. GENIUS.

Too many players that need the ball

It seems to be that Gordon, Rose, and Salmon all need the ball to be effective. When Deng is playing well he doesn’t need the ball to be effective. Also, this would hurt our already atrocious defense.

by tuluse on Feb 28, 2009 5:19 PM CST up reply actions

i agree

ball dominate guards. (lol). i really think that before tonight… rose used to feel like it was his team and he could do whatever he wanted.

little bit of looking over shoulder, having to worry about defense, and allot less steady diet of pick and rolls for him.

by mandoman10 on Feb 28, 2009 10:51 PM CST up reply actions

At this point Deng is dead weight

He must be a slow learner, because it took Miller and Salmons less than a week to show their positive attributes, yet Lu is always the guy who has to make the “adjustments.” I’m beginning to grow weary of the player who has to adjust on a team that runs no real plays, just run around and hit some shots, what’s so hard?

after 2 bad games

it will probably be Tyrus. Deng has been horrible all season but we can’t have both our “captains” on the bench.

I vote for Thomas to play, play more and play regularly.-Sam Smith

If BG sits, that tells you a lot

If he goes back to being the sixth man this year, then the Bulls are basically saying that they are going to let him go for nothing this year. Which would be a mistake. I think Miller needs to start. Help establish more offense in the beginning of the game. Here are the front court lineups that should happen
Miller-Thomas (the good one) – Salmons or Deng (starting front court)
Noah-Deng – Salmons
This gives the Bulls more balance. Thomas and Noah do not work well together up front. Noah needs to develop a shot. Preferably one where the Ball goes in the basket from 8-10 feet away. While Thomas’ offense has picked up this year. Salmons and Luol (even when he is struggling) give more offensive punch to the Bulls. And will work better with Noah.
Dengs problem is he is a pussy. The coaches want him to drive the ball, but that’s not his style. Then when he settles for jumpers, he thinks, “Crap, I’m not doing what the coach wants me to.” Then he probably thinks that it’s best just to avoid any offense at all so that no one can get mad at him. We need to let Luol be Luol. A Spot up Jumper with a sweet Mid Range J. Once we accept the fact that he won’t take the ball to the hole, then we can move on.

by paxdorf on Feb 28, 2009 12:30 PM CST reply actions

You have to put your foot down

And say “look, this is Derrick Rose’s team and we’re going to build around him.” Someone has to say it, Pax hasn’t said it, VInny definitely won’t say it, we need a coach that will say something like this. And as for BG, I’m all for him leaving, but if he stays, will he play to that tune? That concept that he will play second-fiddle to Derrick Rose, which means that all that “my-turn” shots, that “one-on-one” stuff, the INTENT to go one-on-one….all that stuff needs to go out the window. Will he do that?

by TheBastid on Feb 28, 2009 5:36 PM CST up reply actions

That's Ben problem...

I like him but what don’t these Gordon fans understand. All he wants to do is throw up shots for a contract. This is messing up the flow of the team, one of many problems.Start Salmons, Gordon will get a big wake up call this summer. Anywhere he goes the most he will be is a sixth man. Am I the only who hates when Ben bring the ball up like he’s the damn point guard. Give the ball to Rose so he can set plays up. This also falls on the coach. Vdn acts like he doesn’t know who’s team it is either and if he doesn’t understand that why the hell is be here…

by Lsd on Feb 28, 2009 7:05 PM CST up reply actions

It's Ben's role to score.

It’s not that hard to understand.

And Ben bringing the ball up sometimes isn’ that bad of a proposition. He’s an NBA leader in fastbreak points, so if he can score on the fastbreak, let him.

There is no question

Ben ABSOLUTELY NEEDS to defer to DRose completely in regards to PG responsibilities. The fast break points for BG have increased because he runs alongside of Rose this year. He has his good games when he plays shooter not game manager. He’s a terrible game manager and leader. How can anyone not realize that by now?

Coz joakim noah is gonna be abused by the great yao ming. And start sally over deng coz he needs to get rewarded for playing good in a losing effort.

Vinney - Mister Offense Only

He makes decision base don how the offense flows. What he does not realize is that the offense is secondary and if you have a quarterback that gets the ball to the right person, that player will flourish offensively. We need Ty Thomas clocking shots, rebounding, having an inside presence and Derrick getting him the dunks, at the right time. Noah will rebound and do well picking up misses and put backs. There will be offense and defense but Vinny thinks offense only. He onl mentions defense is at the end of teh game when they lose and he blames the players for not wanting to play D. A bad coach asks the team to play D, a good coach teaches them to play D.

I agree

Their is so much talent on this team. And it’s not being used right. But John Paxson still continues to make us watch this shyt. With a different coach we probably would be as good as Atlanta(4th seed). I’m still puzzled why theirs not a set play from Rose to Thomas for atleast 3 alley hoops a game. This damn coach is pissing me off. Did anybody else notice when Salmons set a screen for Rose and he threw it in to Tyrus for the dunk? They went back to the same play the next possesion. This could be our inside presence when the jumpers aren’t falling.

by Lsd on Feb 28, 2009 6:55 PM CST up reply actions

Noah has been very efficient recently, putting his FTs, not missing many shots (not taking many either).

by biolb on Feb 28, 2009 5:55 PM CST reply actions

Why the hell is he still the coach

Strarting lineup (this is the best one)

Rose
Salmons
Deng
Tyrus
Noah, I would say splitting minutes between Miller and Noah should be the only 2 players to split minutes (Maybe Noah 30,Miller 25)

by Lsd on Feb 28, 2009 6:45 PM CST reply actions

god, i hate this dumb motherfucker.

i feel so sure that if he changes anything it will be the wrong thing. after basically benching tyrus last night for a rough defensive stint, i bet he comes out of the starting lineup. and why not bench your best defensive player?

please give tyrus 30 minutes a game. remember what he did when he got time?

Cashing checks and having sex.

Ugh!...

What are we waiting on to fire him. Even if we win tonight, he has showed time and time again this is not the job for him. Period! Damn, and JR talked Paxson out of quitting so now Vinny is still here, because any other Gm would fire him. And JR said he doesn’t see anything wrong with the coaching staff. What a fucking joke.

Is that mentally stressed on how poorly he is playing?

by bullschwaa on Mar 1, 2009 7:02 AM CST up reply actions

starting line up

I think they should run with
Rose
Salmons
deng if the MRI is ok
Tyrus Thomas
miller

If deng is out they should run kirk at the 2 spot then move salmons to the 3 and just have gordon coming off the bench and rotate kirk to the 1…… BTW NOAH is A BEAST
