Harris gets more calls than anyone I've ever seen.

And he doesn’t deserve them. He’s never won anything on any level.

we've been outscored a ton this this quarter

now i know you guys can’t wait to blame your favorite nemesis on the team (hinrich, rose, gordon, thomas, whoever) but I think this is what happens when VDN substitutes so erratically. Everyone is out of sync.

Tyrus gets it going, he sits. Hinrich gets it going, sits. Miller gets it going, sits. Rose, Deng, Salmons, Gordon – VDN is stopping us from making runs before we even get going because his substitutions are so erratic.

Rose doesn’t even pretend to try on defense, and just goes through the motions on offense.

not being able to stop Devin Harris does not equate not caring about winning. No one on the Bulls could stop Harris tonight. D. Rose played poorly. He will have other poor games. It doesn’t prove he doesn’t care about winning or is not trying. You guys are making me head hurt.

I agree with you...

but let’s face it. Rose lacks intensity on defense, and it is a question of effort. He doesn’t keep track of his man. He doesn’t fight through screens. In fact, he might be the single worst player I’ve ever seen defending the pick and roll. Those are effort plays.

No, he’s not a bust, of course not. But he doesn’t try hard on defense. We’ve seen this all year – and it still isn’t anywhere near corrected.

Because the team doesn’t try on defense all the time, their coach doesn’t even have the right schemes, and he’s on a team where everyone didn’t give a shit until about a month and a half ago. Rose was breaking his back for the team for the first few months, then probably realized he could just coast and still look pretty good. What’s the incentive to try when no one else is?

Remember back to the mid 1980’s when the Bulls had a similar team, and MJ could only get the team to barely over 0.500 and a early playoff exit? If MJ can’t make a team of stinkers more than mediocre, should we expect more of Rose?

Fighting through screens

is about heart. Derrick lopes into a trail position every single time, doesn’t go for rebounds he could and frankly should get, and comes up with waaaaaaaaaay too few lose balls. He loses track of his man and doesn’t play the passing lanes. These aren’t issues of physicality: they’re issues of attention and effort.

I love the kid to death, but it’s not his stoic demeanor that makes people wonder about his defensive intensity. It’s not his lack of floorburns, fist-pumps or grunts. It’s the fact that he doesn’t do those unpleasant basketball plays that are necessary to win.

Personally, I think it’s a matter of lacking knowledge. I think the kid would try if he knew how. Step one to rectifying that: hire a coach that coaches defense.

I am sure Vinny will get a call from Dorf or Pax because they cannot afford...

for Derrick Rose to take a step back, esp when the goal is to build the team around him. Derrick Rose needs a coach who understands what he means to the Chicago Bulls and Fans and begin to build a team around him that will feature HIM.

This current team does not reflect that. Ben Gordon initiating the offense. Tyrus Thomas running the fastbreak. The ball leaving Roses hands and it not finding its way back to him.

The team is not Derrick Roses team, so I guess he said fuck it. I will show you that you cannot win freezing me out. This includes you Vinny. I Derrick Rose makes you Vinny look good.

If Derrick Rose does not bounce back this season then Vinny is GONE guaranteed along with some of the other players.

Actually, the Gordon thing is unfair

Because there are only a vocal few who actually support him (myself included).

But, I love how Derrick Rose is supposed to be this fiery guy all of a sudden when he was being praised for his humble, quiet nature in the past. He’s taken over games in the 4th before, he took the game over last night in the 3rd when Orlando almost came back. But, tonight, when his whole team plays like shit, he deserves all the blame? The future is Rose, but that doesn’t mean everyone on the team can’t be held accountable.

If Rose is so great then why don't Vinny and the players treat him that way. I blame this on Vinny.

Rose is a rookie and therefore will defer more to the coach and the other players, but as soon as he stops and recognizes that everything begins and ends with HIM then the Bulls will return to glory.

It takes the right coach to groom a raw phenom into a superstar, that is why Phil Jackson is one of the greatest coaches to ever coach. He took a basketball genious and made him into a basketball god. He took one of the most physically gifted centers ever and made him into a legend, while coaching another phenom whom he is now duplicating his work that he done with Jordan.

Kobe will be a god in the end because he had a hell of a coach and all good players know that. Rose needs a COACH. Do you think Phil Jackson would have this problem with Derrick Rose?

The bulls lost control in the 4th…in the begining of the 4th….d. haris killed the whole damn team in the 4th…..we lost because the defense sucked. But if you wanna say kirks the reason we lost then you are being dense….

or saying that kirk is yesterday…..is that saying regardless if he plays well he shouldnt….bah…thats the kind of comments that peave me…

Many reasons the Bulls had lost..

but to me I felt that the Bulls had a decent hold on the game until Hinrich started drinking on the end of the bench and then gave the flask to Tyrus and Vinny while D Rose smoked a bowl with Luol Deng.

we got cold in the 4th so when that happens a loss is going to happen.. not that big of a deal..

but this is a big deal.. not sure why vinny is doing this.. but it must be corrected…

gordon with 33 minutes
rose with 30 minutes
noah with 23 minutes
deng with 30 minutes
TT with 24 minutes
salmons with 31 minutes
hinrich with 24 minutes
miller with 24 minutes
lesser TT with 16 minutes….

that is a 9 man rotation all getting about the same amount of minutes… no wonder we went cold in the 4th quarter…. you cant expect players to get into a groove when subs are coming and going so often……

Anybody with half of a basketball brain knows when they are dealing with a coach...

with some basketball sense and a damn douche dressed up as a coach. I think Derrick Rose is tired of Vinny and is no longer motivated to play for him.

I agree

That game against the Pacers when he was out for most of the fourth,Derrick said “I guess he took me out to have a better chance to win. I’m never surprised when I come out”.

Your star player.....Your future.....The face of your franchise says that!!!!!! and then everyone...

by Bart71 on Feb 25, 2009 9:12 PM CST up reply actions

Exactly

Can you blame Rose. Time after time we have seen him leave Rose on the bench when we are down in the fourth and third. And the dumb shit he did last by putting the starters back out up 15 with 2 mins left in the fourth. He is showing us with this decision he needs to be fired. Too many times.

by Lsd on Feb 25, 2009 9:19 PM CST up reply actions

I totally agree...

… I think we can expect more of the same if there isn’t a coaching change made. I don’t know who to blame more… VDN because he is the one doing the coaching or JP because he still hasn’t fired him yet.

Someone like Doc Rivers who may not be a great tactician, but every guy loves to play for him, and he always knows what to say to get that extra effort. That, and blackmail Tom Thibodeau into taking an assistant position with the team.

by piccolomair on Feb 25, 2009 9:47 PM CST up reply actions

I know where you are going with this and there is no way that Hinrich is better than

Rose. Rose wins hands down. There is no way that Hinrich means more to this team than Rose…..no way.

Rose lack of defense is because he is a rookie and most importantly he don’t have a real coach. Rose learned more under Calapari in Memphis than he is with Vinny now.

Vinny is a HUGE downgrade from Calapari any day of the week.

by Bart71 on Feb 25, 2009 9:52 PM CST up reply actions

if you know where im going with this is

kirk being greater than rose, then you are going the wrong way….i dont blame rose or gordon or any individual player on this team at all for this loss. Theres a post below that sums up what really went on in this game, it wasnt a single player playing bad, it was a coaching staff that isnt doing its job (as you noticed with the rose thing)

my point of my post was more retaliation in a sense, not againt you per se (since i dont remember if you actually made comments like this) but against several people in the first thread who let kirk have it for “not defending” harris. And the myth that, “hinrich cannot guard fast guards”….my point was simply to defend hinrich, not hold him as the best player on the team.

I hope im not insulting you at all, its not my intention….i agree with the last part of your post btw. Though i also think rose needs to attack the rim alot, i rather lose games with rose driving to the rim and being blocked a thousand times than lose like this…thats because i know rose will eventually adapt and know what his limits are in terms of driving to the rim…

by SoulEater7 on Feb 25, 2009 9:50 PM CST up reply actions

you have defenders in the paint for a reason

you fight through the pick in case harris decides to settle for the jumper.

I don’t care how fast Rose is, he’s not quick enough to fight through a pick and stay in front of Devin Harris. we have defenders down low for a reason.

by darksmokepuncher on Feb 25, 2009 9:53 PM CST up reply actions

You do that to Steve Nash or Jose Calderon

Not Devin Harris, probably in the top 5 of fastest players in the league. Especially since he draws contact about as well as any guard, bodying him would just result in foul after foul.

I’m honestly not trying to excuse Rose’s poor D. He’s atrocious, we all know it. I maintain it’s a lack of coaching that results in him rarely fighting through screens.

Have them wear green jerseys with question marks all over them and change their name to the Chicago Riddler’s as a tribute to the inner workings of VDN’s schemes

Maybe we can confuse their opponents as much as he has confused them..

Tyrus gets it going, he sits. Hinrich gets it going, sits. Miller gets it going, sits. Rose, Deng, Salmons, Gordon – VDN is stopping us from making runs before we even get going because his substitutions are so erratic.

During the NCAA Basketball finals it was reported that Coach Cal told Derrick Rose...

in an earlier game that “I want you to be a great as Tiger Woods” and “I see you becoming as great as he”.

Now when a player WITH talent has a coach who believes in him like that then he will play his ASS off for him. He knows that the coach wants to see him suceed and become the basketball god that he knows that he is. Any moves Coach Cal made with Derrick Rose made him better. Coach Cal made Derrick into a leader and understood him and saw greatness in him.

Vinny is no Coach Cal and Derrick is tired of eating hot dogs when he is used to Steak and potatoes. Paxson has to hire a coach that is the equal to what Derrick Rose got in Memphis or greater.

Hell if he could, he should try to get Coach Cal to come to Chicago next year.
