is this in direct response to Henry at TrueHoop's partnerships with the blogs in the
“TrueHoop Network”? Also, does this mean more Kelly Dwyer around these parts? That would be welcome.

Dude needs to post here
When I watch NBA games I often call the fouls before the referees do. Sometimes it’s a gift. Most of the time it's troublesome. - NBA Observer
KD is a moron...
I swear he wrote an article a while back about the ROY race, and he didn’t even realize/mention that Eric Gordon is a rookie. He’s an internet Jay Mariotti as far as I’m concerned (only knows the players he sees on Sportscenter).

LOL WUT

Yep...
His reply to the numerous people questioning him in the reply thread was so weak. If I remember correctly it was something about how the Clippers aren’t any good and EG shouldn’t be mentioned (or something like that), but then somebody pointed out that OKC (Westbrook) and Memphis (OJ Mayo) are even worse. I don’t remember if that’s exactly how it went down, but I remember thinking he should just admit he doesn’t watch Clippers games. The guy is a douche of the highest order.

Hang on...
I just read the reply thread of that article again (posted by Fundamentallysound) and it was someone else (not KD) who brought up the Clippers are no good, to which the obvious response was that OKC and Memphis are just as bad. That’s not on KD. He gets points back for that one.
I still think he was wrong to leave out EG, Lopez, and Oden (not as a canidate, but as a pre-season favorite), especially when he mentions Courtney Lee, Nicholas Batum, and Ryan Anderson. That’s just plain lazy in my opinion.
"So long Noc, we hardly knew ya."
by Khalid El-Amin on Feb 25, 2009 2:35 AM CST up reply actions
Not as ROY candidates.
But the real point here is that this class is deep. So, so deep. I count 16 potential starters in this first round alone, and that’s not even counting guys (Courtney Lee, Nicholas Batum, Ryan Anderson) who, while you might not want to rely on them for starters minutes, have been playing damn well and starting for teams both good, average, and great.
Right...
I get that, he mentions only 4 for ROY, everyone else is NOT a canidate, but zero mention of Lopez, EG, and Oden is dubious. Especially when you consider that Gordon was starting on a team that lost it’s two best players for most of the season and dropped 30+ on multiple occasions. He’s not a ROY (that’s clearly Rose). This is tiring though.

Why
would he mention Oden, dude hasnt played enough to merit consideration. IMO he should have mentioned Lopez since altho he started out slow has really been building a case for himself if he can finish strong. Guess he is just another NBA writer with a biased against NJ in favor of OKC ;)
I only bring up Oden because...
He was the pre-season fav. He is not, and should not, be a ROY canidate anymore. It’s just interesting to me how everyone/most assumed he would be a shoe in (no mention of Beasly either btw). IMO a well informed article might include at least some mention of that.

No, I've read others...
I skim past yahoo alot actually, that ROY one was the last one I read though. The video crap (as mentioned below) is quite lame IMO.

I bet that has a lot to do with the fact he was talking about the AWARD. Not whether Gordon, or Thompson for that matter, are going to be quality players in the league.

Or it could be that he has a word limit on such posts and he only posted those he
thought were worthy of being mentioned based on their complete games. I am looking through his responses and he gives clear reasons as to why he left people out. Lopez didnt’ get minutes and played bad D for two months. Gordon doesn’t play D and he mentions this…
Of course, Westbrook is third among all PGs in rebound rate, pulling in boards at the same rate as Kobe Bryant, while scoring more than Gordon in fewer minutes and nearly doubling his assists … but, yeah. Points to Gordon for the free throw percentage.
So I don’t know how you say he had no response. The guy knows his stuff, maybe it’s you who is ill-informed.

And are you KD?
Do we meet again?
Read the thread though, there were literally hundreds of people who feel that KD did not present a very thorough case (No mention of Love, Lopez, or EG except in the reply thread? Or Oden, who doesn’t deserve the award, but should be mentioned as a pre-season favorite at least).
Call me what you will, but I prefer a sportswriter that presents all sides of the argument.
Seriously though, it’s just my opinion, you are entitled to believe otherwise.
"So long Noc, we hardly knew ya."
by Khalid El-Amin on Feb 25, 2009 1:49 AM CST up reply actions
I'm not KD
but I did read through his responses. He addressed the problems with the arguments for Brook Lopez and Gordon in the reply thread. He expressed his opinions on the guys. Gordon doesn’t rebound or defend like Westbrook and Westbrook scores more points per minute. Lopez played crummy D for two solid months and hasn’t gotten the same level of PT so far this year that the others have gone. He DID mention Love in the article, so that’s just you getting the facts wrong.
There’s also such a thing as a word limit on a column. He included his top 4 and gave his reasons for picking Derrick Rose over the others. Most sportswriters wouldn’t even deign to answer reply threads when the fans of slighted players accosted their piece, but he did and he did it with reason and substantiated opinion. It’s your opinion, you keep pointing that out, but it just couldn’t be more out of line.

Yeah that makes sense I guess...
But you should know that I was careful to say that it’s “just my opinion” or “as far as I’m concerned”. I’m not sure what kind of law they are teaching you in Virginia, but I’m fairly certain that disqualifies me from any libel case BDL might bring against me, and you can also rest assured that most people at BAB aren’t going to start running over to BDL and start calling KD a jackass. People at BAB are entitled to have their own opinion too, which is why I enjoy coming here (it often differs from my own). I don’t know what I’m even debating with you anymore.

took the time to look at my profile, probably while thinking, “who the fuck is this guy?”, and that’s fine. I just disagree very strongly with what you were saying and I don’t think the actual public record supports what you’re claiming. I wasn’t so much worried about fellow BaBers calling KD a jackass, I was more concerned that they wouldn’t even bother to read him, and that, to me, would be a damned shame. okay, KD does the viral stuff from time to time, but he's generally there
for analysis. Also, it’s pretty obvious when a post is viral video by the gigantic Youtube box in the post. It makes it really easy to skip. His analysis is almost always spot on. I skip a lot of the viral stuff, but some of it is genuinely entertaining, but it’s really not that hard to skip if you just want the analysis.

no, I read just about everything he writes. I just don't always watch
all the videos. If he writes something interesting about a video, I might watch it. If it doesn’t sound worth it, I don’t.
Also, you’re trying to twist what I’ve said to win the argument. My point was that I read probably 80-90% of what he writes. I’m an NBA junkie, I try to consume as much info on the league as possible and he’s a very good NBA writer. You said you didn’t read the blog often and cited one post as some sort of evidence that KD is a douche or a hack writer. He’s not either of those things.

I probably over-generalized there
a bit. Skeets does MOST of the viral stuff and KD does MOST of the analysis. You got me (satisfied?). His analysis is still very good and he’s quite legit as a writer. You’re obviously entitled to disagree. This being a sports blog, I responded with my equally strong opinion that he is a very, very good writer.
We can agree to disagree. I’ll end all this with advice to others reading our argument / dialogue – read KD and make your own opinions about his analysis. I think he’s quite worthwhile, KEA disagrees. Figure it out for yourselves.

does it mean
we have to better censor our comments? be more polite?
say nice things about John Paxson?
etc…
man up!
doesn't mean anything, just a heads up that there could be a lot more new users soon.
and as little as I care about being especially nice to them (normal standards apply for new and old, it’s really if I value your contributions or not), I care even less about being nice to John Paxson :)
