Around SBN: Bob Sapp Denies Throwing Fights

I watched Larry Hughes' Knicks debut yesterday, and it wasn't pretty. It looked as if somebody told him that since he was joining the free-wheeling Knicks, he could take any shot he wanted, no matter how terrible it was. Hughes did just that, repeatedly launching contested Js off the dribble early in the shot clock, the exact thing that got him in hot water in Cleveland and Chicago.

Hughes' final line was 1-for-9 from the field in 16 minutes, and there was a 10th attempted shot that was recorded as a turnover because he threw the ball up and it came down with it without it hitting the rim. The one he made -- a 3 from the left corner -- was a quality look; none of the others were.

He'll have better games than this, presumably, and with the Knicks having such a glaring hole at the 2, the minutes remain there for the taking. But it was jarring to see such a selfish performance from Hughes right out of the gate, and if he keeps that mindset he's not going to play much more for the Knicks than he did for Chicago.

I was watching nba tv awhile back

and i remember that they were showing a classic game of hte lakers and whatever team hughes was on (i wanna say goldent state (?) but i know for sure it wasnt washington) and they basically head like the little pregame comment on the matchup to watch out for in that game and it was Hughes vs Kobe and how htey were actually comparing the two players as being very similar almost equal talents ( i think kobe was in his second or third year in the nba) in hindsight that is pretty hilarious….

On Behalf of Sue, Wjb, majoyenrac, Bullshooter and all the other Hinrich fans...Ill keep the Hinrich Hope coming...There will be light!

Must've been either Philly or Golden State

What a selfish loser

You would think he would get it after a while.

Nate Robinson, on the other hand, has been playing great for February

48.1 FG, 33.9 3P, 21.7 points, 5.4 assists, and 4.7 rebounds.

Glad I have him on my fantasy

Larry Hughes continued a miserable start to his Knicks career by missing all five shots in the first half. After going 1-for-9 for three points in 16 minutes Sunday in a loss at Toronto, he had a corner jumper hit the side of the backboard, and threw up an air ball on another jumper. Acquired Thursday at the trade deadline, he was already hearing boos by late in the second quarter, and the boos resumed when he checked in again in the third.

I actually don't hate Hughes

I wish him well. I don’t wanna say I feel bad for him that feels kinda of condescending….and he is a millionaire.
Just feel bad about his situation.

by Camry on Feb 23, 2009 11:52 PM CST reply actions

His situation with the ball not going through the round metal thingy?

I have trouble feeling sorry for him when he spends his time looking out for himself instead of trying to make the team he is on better. He has the talent to be a team guy and contribute in the small ways that can add up for your team but he isn’t interested in it. He’s decided how he will play and it involves taking shots out of the offense, early in the shot clock, and making them harder than they really are by fading away to the side for no reason.

I am really glad he is off the team and is trouble for someone besides us. And since he is only into himself it really is his own fault. He gets a fresh start every team he’s been on and this is how it always goes down.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

Larry Hughes

is Hughes-larry-ous.
cymbol
Hey, when he’s not on your team, he’s fun to watch!

"You remember the first time you picked up a basketball video game and you had no idea how to run plays, so you just gave the ball to your shooter and you ran around the court aimlessly until a defender was far enough away and then you jacked up a shot? THAT IS LARRY HUGHES!"

Yeah

But enough points to the direction of just a situation that kinda sucks. I don’t feel bad really maybe a bad case of indigestion.
But I do feel bad for people that go that route and I still wonder if his brothers death played a bit of a factor. I remember when they had this whole special about his brother getting healthy Hughes was having his best season.
But thats along with a system thats better for him and he only got older etc. I just like to give him the benefit of the doubt off the court a little. Not to say that he doesn’t deserve blame or we should have a Larry Hughes day. (unless the day he was traded)

HAAAAA!

All my friends who are huge Knicks fans are trying to give me reasoning as to why Larry Hughes was a steal for the Knicks and how he is gonna be amazing in NY.

they say “have fun with Tim Thomas…and Jerome James”

they have no idea what they are in for in hughes…until last night

If you can watch the game recap for Larry Hughes last night vs the Pacers please do. It will make you soooo happy to realize not only is this guy not on the Bulls but hes playing for the Knicks who are right on Chicago’s ass for that final playoff spot. Knowing hughes is gonna play for NY gives Chicago a clear advantage over NY in that last spot.

Hughes took vintage Larry Hughes shots. Break away pull up air balls… knicks passin up shots to hit hughes in the corner with the extra pass…hughes in turn hits the side of the back board…. break away with nate robinson, nice dish to hughes, and hughes looses the handle and tries to save the ball which ends up hitting the back of the back board….the guy was awful!

So bad that D’antoni laughed after the game about Hughes’ airballs….

hughes then tried to explain he was missing his shots cause “his legs arent used to the game place”…or that he hasnt “played in a while so the games coming too fast for him” and needs to “slow the game down”

those excuses will only work for another day or two larry..dont try to fool NY media with that garbage

Hughes rocks the head band…the arm band…and the obnoxious # 0 and just attracts so much attention only to hoist up the most ridiculous shots…whats going on in that head?? thank god he’s gone.

him and al harrington on the same team! god what a duo

and I just thought this update from NY on Chicago’s former player would make you all smile.

also..Nocioni 19 pts on 4-7 from 3pts…

THe Noc night

Makes me sad….

Oh well, I wish Noc well, I do think/hope Salmons will outperform him (and see no reason why he won’t given the lighter contract and the more VDN style of Salmons)….

also, i think having a 2/3

is more beneficial to this particular team than a 3/4. backcourt is still too damn crowded though.

My favorite box score from that game

Cedric Simmons: 6 minutes played, 0-1 FG, 0 points, 0 assists, 0 rebounds, 0 steals, 0 blocks, -8 plus/minus
