20 rebounds combined between Noah and Miller

And I don’t think they’ve played together much either. That’s pretty much pure Center production.

Shit.

Was going to say that VDN’s excuse for not playing Rose will be the fact that he’s a rookie, and Hinrich has “more experience” adjusting to other players’ styles of play.

And how he tends to rush his shot if he ever is in the post with the ball. He’s a very good player, he just lacks some polish.

Is that his mistakes look remarkably stupid. He doesn’t make mistakes at a particularly high rate, but when he makes them they’re so spectacularly dumb that the easy narrative to write/believe is that he’s a dumb player.

I never thought about it like this

but the trades improved the talent and versatility of this team. Having said that, that gives vdn more options and he doesnt know what to do. I think we’re going back to more unpredictable rotations and random lineups finishing the game. Maybe we would be better if we always had only 8 men available…at least vdn wouldnt have to option to do this

If you really believe in the "hot hand"

Then I can’t do anything to help you. Just because he was something like 10-12 in the first half doesn’t mean that he can just start throwing up a bunch of bullshit and watch shots keep falling. This isn’t NBA Jam. (He’s on FIIIIIIRE!).

BG made horrible decisions on shots pretty much the entire fourth quarter because he wasn’t getting the same looks he was in the first half. The decisions he made on shots/possessions in the fourth helped to contribute to the Indy run that won them the game.

His great play in the first half and his awful decision-making in the fourth are not mutually exclusive events.

Awful decision making?

He was put in a horrible situation. They basically threw him out there and begged him to make tough shot after tough shot to lead a comeback. It’s comical he is held to some high standard of efficiency while the coach sabotaged the team for a whole quarter. Scorers can’t just get into the flow of an offense when they aren’t playing.

But following that up by taking asinine, low-percentage shots was a petulant reaction by BG.

Listen, I want the Bulls to re-sign Gordon – moving Hinrich for an expiring was fine by me – but neither our affection for BG nor VDN’s idiotic substitution patterns justify his petulant play.

When to switch

Since Jan 15th or so it seems Vinny has decided to always switch every screen. Watching NBA teams around the league it seems some switch and some dont. Shouldn’t that decision be based on the other teams personnel?

Some teams you need to pick your poison on the screen roll, San Antonio you’re screwed either way Duncan or Parker, Utah same thing, but a team like the Magic coming up I’d rather have the Bulls allow Alston to take 20 footers then have Rose matched on Howard he catches sees Deng helping and Lewis and Heido having wide open threes all game.

I can't make any sense out of Tim Thomas playing 31 min vs Tyrus 7 min

I don’t really care that Tim T. hit 6/10 why the switch. Tyrus has potential, is Paxson/VDN kissing a.. because of the way he treated this selfish scrub before and VDN previous relationship?

Tyrus only had 1 foul, so that can’t be the excuse.

What positives can we take from today?

This was the debut of Miller and Salmons, so the offense was understandably stagnant at times. They were on fire most of the game, yet only finished with 79 FG attempts and 19 assists.

I can already tell Brad Miller is going to help this team, it just remains to be seen how Vinny will handle Tyrus and Noah in the rotation now. I like Miller’s toughness on the boards, and he had some good looks on offense. I think he hits that jumpshot with better accuracy with some more games under his belt.

To me, Salmons looks like what Thabo should have been. High energy, aggressive on defense, and a decent jumpshot with some forays near the basket. It’s a huge upgrade over Nocioni, but again I’m leery of how Vinny will use him in the lineups. 25 minutes a game from him is probably the right amount, but I don’t want to see the Bulls turn into an isolation team by putting him and Gordon together a lot.

What Kirk Hinrich did today was the single most shameful act done by a Chicago Bull all season. For some reason, two minutes into the third quarter, Del Negro decided to sub Kirk Hinrich in for Derrick Rose. Once in the game, Hinrich froze Gordon out of the offense. Ben Gordon, who had 22 points in the first half on 9-11 shooting, did not take a single shot in his original 5 minute, 21 second stint in the third quarter.

I can easily agree that Kirk is playing too much, had a terrible game, and I hope to see him dealt so that BG or someone like Salmons gets more PT BUT you’re little special section on “Kirk the cancer… disgracing the Bulls team uniform” is a bit much. Looking at Vinny after today

I keep going back to my expectations of Vinny at the begining of the year…..
Goals for Vinny
1. Don’t mess with Derrick. 2. Win your 35-39 games, blow 5 games on poor coaching decisions ( end of Miami game), 3. Don’t Mess with Derrick. 4. Listen to your assistants. ( That’s not happening from what the media is reporting), 5. Dont Mess with Derrick.

So Vinny gets through the first half of the season on pace to do all my goals except listen to the Bernie and Del. But at the 53rd game the wheels started to fall off. Since the Miami game Derrick has been absent in key 4th quarter mins 3 times. Miami, Denver, Today

If he thinks moving the Bulls from the 9th to 7th playoff spot is his main objective this year he needs to be fired or have Pax/Gar tear him a new one publicly as Jerry did. I know Jerry is hated by a lot of people on the board but he is the only one to go off on Vinny publicly and that is very admirable in my book.

Kirk Hinrich is not the best or the worst playing his position.. He can stand on his own two feet as a player in the NBA

But the Kirk-ease promotions thoughtout the organization, initially John Paxson to now VDN to Neil Funk is deathing.

Kirk role has now become the replacement for Duhon on the team, this is not really a surprise. For years while Duhon and Kirk played it really wasn’t much significant difference to what each provided for the team , except one made 11/10 million while the other made 3 million a year.

Duhon is a starting PG presently in the NBA, likewise Kirk probably should also be a starting PG somewhere?

Therefore, PaxsDorf quit the sicking Kirk-ease promotions and make sure Kirk is traded or sit down together to restructure his contract if he just loves playing for Chicago, regardless of whatever you decide to do with Ben Gordon.

Granny.. thanks.. might as well call things as they are!

Still, there comes a time when the average surburbanite refuses to be associated with mediocrity which Kirk is begining to become nearer too?

Aside from his skills, the grit and toughness are declining….
He’s doesn’t take the ball strong to the hole, He Shys away from physical contract more and more each year, his shot isn’t improving but the opposite..

Still his facial hair, his nice personality and his looks are improving with maturity and enhance his personal appearance..

But, I just don’t believe this is enough and the number 12 jerseys are declining in favor of the number 1 jersey, although Derrick is not typical surburbanite… Fans want to also win.

The nail in the coffin will be when Kirk gets the same applause as Paxson is now receiving.

How soon would Pax fire VDN??

My first thought was just one game after the trades would be too soon. Then again, we need a coach that can quickly get the new guys acclimated into the system, which IMO isn’t such a hard task. It’s a telling sign when the team’s weakest link is the coach.

Do you think Pax would pull the trigger this season? IMO, it’s now or this summer.

by MouseIsInTheHouse on Feb 22, 2009 4:10 PM CST reply actions

I don't think so

but not because Pax thinks he is his guy. He already tried getting two other coaches first and Jerry screwed it up. So Pax may very well not be happy with the situation. The problem is that they would have to pay him if he left. And I don’t think Jerry would enjoy paying two coaches at the same time.

Del Negro surprisingly pulled Derrick Rose for Kirk Hinrich less than two minutes into the second half for failing to control Ford. Later he replaced Joakim Noah and Tyrus Thomas with Miller and Salmons with 3 minutes 4 seconds left in a one-possession game.

Thomas sprinted off the floor with a look of bewilderment and headed straight for the end of the bench, then wheeled and ran to the head of the bench to pat Del Negro on his knee.

Noah

Thought Noah made his presence felt on the boards, as usual. 12 boards (10 and 2) before being pulled by knucklehead Vinnie with 3 minutes left and the Bulls a point away from making it a tied game. Tyrusmancrush you should be arrested for wondering that Aaron Gray might “have prevented the Pacers from getting so many offensive rebounds.”

by SlamDunk on Feb 22, 2009 7:45 PM CST reply actions

To SlamDunk. I agree that anyone recommending putting Aaron Gray in the game having options of Miller or Noah on the bench

should not only be arrested, they should be locked in an airtight room and be required to listen to Jim Boylan and Vinny DelCluess discuss the finer points of strategic coaching and substitution patterns with the game on the line. I would even prefer Noce at center over our big, soft teddy bear. It was meant as a cheap shot at Vinny’s apparent lack of working on fundamentals with the bigs…(i.e. boxing out, not switching to a 6’ guard while leaving their 7’ man open for a layup, time after time without making any adjustments…(maybe a zone?).

I may not be a reincarnation of John Wooten, but I’m not that stupid. If Aaron never sees the floor again, except during warmups, I could easily live with that. But you have to admit, he is a good cheerleader, obviously being grateful he is actually recieving an NBA paycheck instead of being a backup in the “D” league.

Probably not, now that Noah has played himself into shape.

At Miller’s age, he will likely be most effective if kept in the 28 min/game range.

Miller has enough offensive skills that Noah can play the 4 with him, when Tyrus is on the bench for rest or foul trouble.

Maybe we can?

And a good coach would realize 8-10 minutes if he is playing well is good enough. But this is Vinny so who knows if he can help foster this fledgling bench player into the 8-10 minutes a night guy we need.

Granny Waiters is being too kind. That may have been Hinrich's worst game as a Bull.

And as everyone knows, Vinny likes to ride the cold hand.
When everything is running smoothly and in synch, his neurons start misfiring and he has an immediate need to throw a monkeywrench into the machine just to show everyone who is in charge.

Miller is going to be a big contributor once he gets acclimated, unless of course, Vinny decides to move Kirk to center, especially against teams like the Rockets .

If you can't answer a man's arguments, all is not lost. You can still call him vile names.

Sure

5 – Hinrich
4 – Gordon
3 – Hunter
2 – Roberson
1 – Rose

Hope Vinny doesn’t read this, or he might try it.

Maybe we can?

Now you've done it. If Vinny ever reads this blog, he probably doesn't realize its sarcasm.

Don’t be surprised if this will be our 4th quarter rotation in a tight game with VDN figuring we could outpace them, especially against a weak sister like the Celtics.

Vinny just can't take on more than 7 player rotations

He handled Friday’s Nuggets game perfectly because he only had 7 players to work with. But, today he just didn’t know who to play at any given moment, so he just freaked out.

We should have traded Hinrich when we had the chance!
