Looking Ahead.... 2 the Offseason

The one thing that we couldn't get done in these deals was free up enough salary to resign Ben Gordon, unless he's willing to take less money.  So we'll have to replace him.  I figured we have 2 pretty good options to go with.  Start our 2010 shopping early or use a draft pick....

1st, let me say that I love what Pax has done with the trades the last few days.  We almost had a perfect run, considering that Amare was taken off the table.  I think the trades not only get us in the playoffs, but we could be a contender for an upset depending on how the new guys mesh into the system.

Now onto my main theme, this offseaon.   The one thing that we couldn't get done in these deals was free up enough salary to resign Ben Gordon, unless he's willing to take less money.  So we'll have to replace him.  I figured we have 2 pretty good options to go with.  Start our 2010 shopping early or use a draft pick.

I don't believe Hinrich will be dealt, unless it is a significant deal.  I don't see him being dealt for additional cap relief this offseason.  And the guys I've targeted for 2010 are Chris Bosh, Dwayne Wade, Lebron James, Amare Stoudamire, and Joe Johnson.  So any of those guys would be considered significant deals to me.

Bargain Hunting on 2010 Shopping Spree:

One of the guys that I have targeted in 2010 is Joe Johnson.  I think he's definitely one of the more complete 2's in the league, and I really don't think Miami let's Wade walk.  So why not dangle one of our first rounders, Kirk Hinrich, and Tim Thomas in front of ATL.  They never make money, and will probably be looking to cut salary.  Mike Bibby is a free agent after the season, so they'll need a PG.  In this scenario we can still draft a back up PG with our other pick.  And we add an All Star 2 to take Gordon's place, and in the process makes our team an even more disireable destination for another 2010 free agent.

Going through the Draft:

We'll have 2 picks in this year's 1st round thanks to yesterday deal with Thabo.  They could both be lottery picks (hopefully not).  A dream scenario would be that Phoenix misses the playoffs and we get in.  Grabbing their lottery pick.  In any case, we would have picks most likely in the 12 - 20 range.  There will be some interesting prospects left out there in that range that could come in and fill a role off the bench behind Salmons.

NCAA LOOKOUT

Here are some guys that you may want to look out for as the college regular season winds down and March Madness ramps up:

Jodie Meeks - 6'4 SG Kentucky -- May be Ben Gordon lite. can really score has already had games of 54 and 46 this year.

Terrance Williams - 6'6 SG Louisville -- I really like this kid.  His shooting has improved, and he's always been a terrific athlete and can defend.

Eric Maynor - 6'3 PG VCU -- Tough PG, good defender, and all around game.  Improving jumper, but has shown nice range

Chase Budinger - 6'7 SG/SF Arizona -- great shooter and range, top notch athlete, but doesn't defend very well

Jonny Flynn - 6'0 PG Syracuse -- little point guard that's lightning quick, nice shot, really good athlete.  Pass first, ok defender
