Around SBN: Yu Darvish Diagnosed With Mariners Fever

The Sacramento Bee reported that Kings basketball president Geoff Petrie indicated that Drew Gooden has a groin injury that may be problematic in terms of the physical.

Gooden's physical is scheduled for tomorrow; he has been out with a groin problem since mid-January.

Why do they care?

They only wanted Gooden because of his expiring contract.

Why resort to name calling?

They must be getting conciliatory phone calls

Calls like “I’d have given you more than that for Miller and Salmons”.

This would suck if they use Gooden’s jock as a deal killer. Take the expiring and run.

I wonder if the Cavs were calling if they’re making an offer for Shaq now.

Gooden's physical isn't until tomorrow

By that time, the trade deadline will be over.

I think the league could still rescind the trade

Players failing physicals is always bad.

You never know what’s up. I just read yesterday that Rick Adelman learned about McGrady’s season ending knee surgery through the Houston newspapers. Adelman was peeved about how this could happen in a professional organization. He’s right.

They could

but on friday the kings can’t make any trades until the season ends. Are they going to forgo all those savings based on the notion that some team out there says they’d probably offer something more in 3 months? That’d be pretty damn risky.

Good point

Unless the Kings are still getting calls about Salmos where they’d get better expiring deals or draft picks they don’t care if Gooden is out for the year.

Screw this:

They’re gone, long gone. Gooden is a salary dump anyway.

UPDATED: Deal not in jeopardy
But it’s not going to be a deal-breaker. “Everyone knows he has had a groin issue,” Gooden’s agent, Calvin Andrews, told SportingNews.com. “That is not going to come as a surprise to any of the doctors. It’s not a long-term thing, and the Kings will have a look at it. He hasn’t had his physical yet. It’s scheduled for tomorrow.”
