Dave - Boston: Celtics get anything done?

Chad Ford: (12:09 PM ET ) We keep hearing all morning that the Celtics were talking to the Kings about a deal for Nocioni. The Kings can move him again as long as they don't package him with other players on their roster. The Celtics would send back Scalabrine, Tony Allen, Glen Davis and Patrick O'Bryant. However, a Celtics source says there's nothing happening there. A Kings source, however, says it would be a possibility. I wonder why the Celtics WOULDN'T do that. Nocioni would be a great piece for them.

I really dislike Chad Ford

he just throws out stuff with no basis. And then there is this argument from his chat -

Alex (Chicago): Anything else up John Paxson’s sleeve?

SportsNation Chad Ford: (12:35 PM ET ) Yeah, I know the feeling. Two trade deadline deals in a row and both are pretty underwhelming. I don’t see how Brad Miller and John Salmons dramatically change the equation in Chicago. I thought they should’ve moved Hinrich to the Wolves while they had the chance.

  • Well, first of all, no feeling was expressed in the question. Second, how would sending Hinrich to the Wolves be a dramatic shift? He criticizes the Bulls for not making a dramatic change and than says the Bulls should have traded Hinrich for cap space. Huh? How would that be a dramatic move?

I have no idea

why they would target Nocioni specifically. I’m sure he’d do fine as a catch and shoot 3 point guy who will also get under someone’s skin in the playoffs, but there’s nothing special about him.

As soon as I posted that I realized

that Boston sees him as a James Posey replacement. My feeling is that they should just get Posey back if they want him so bad. NO is looking to shed salary and i’m sure he’s available.

That's exactly what he is, a Posey replacement.

He would be awesome as a role player in Boston. I hope it happens for him.

Posey is actually a good defender

Nocioni is great at running around like a maniac and giving the impression that he’s working hard on defense.

Why resort to name calling?

Noc can score more

Noc plays harder

Noc has been better on winning teams

Noc doesn’t just sleep until the playoffs.

Sadly Noc makes more though…

Noc has been better on winning teams???

Posey played a huge role on a championship team last year and on top of that, won a ring in MIA as a role player.

When

Did the Bulls have Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, Dwyane Wade, Paul Pierce, Shaquille O’Neal on their team?

Matter of circumstance. Noc has won a Gold medal competing against the best of the US, and a bronze medal on one leg again competing against some of the best as an important player.

Posey

You may also recall sat with Walker for conditioning issues in Miami….

Noc plays hard every single game…..I would think he’d be just as effective if not more so for a contending Celtics team, though he makes far more $$ than Posey, so there’s the downside.

oh my.

well, I suppose I will be nostalgic for the days of Noc mythology some day…

You will be

I will miss creating the Noc fights on here too :) or really it’s :(.

But I do think Noc on a contender can at least be a Posey type, though making more than Posey….go figure.

by majoyenrac on Feb 19, 2009 5:43 PM CST up reply actions

Be real

Posey can effectively guard 2s,3s and 4s. Noc can’t effectively guard any position. Posey is a better 3pt shooter and doesn’t just jack em up like Noc does.

I appreciated Noc too but be real people.

Posey

is a better defender, I know that. But not really a better shooter (pretty equal, Noc is a 37.8% on 3’s this year and 36.7 lifetime, Posey is a 35.5% for the year and 41.7% this year….seems an outlier.

Noc has been the better all around player in the past. PER is higher and is about the same as POSEY this year, given a horrible Noc year and a pretty standard Posey year.

Not as far off as you think….I mean Noc ain’t fantastic, but he’s nowhere near as bad as his waning BaB talk….the contract though….yeeech. Who knows, ideally Noc will get into a new system and get back to his old form on a bad team….

I will miss Chapu.

Celtics don't need more offense

and by “offense” i mean someone to jack up shots that better scores on Boston should be taking. They need a lockdown defender who can guard the other teams best wing player. Posey knows his limitations and plays within them.

All appearences of you being objective were lost when you said Noc has been better on winning teams. Meanwhile, Posey has played a significant role on two different championship teams.

I do think that Noce's gold winning Argentinian team...

would beat KG’s Celtics.

Last year’s silver medalists Spain would also beat the Celtics. Bronze medal winning Argentina would give them a hard time too.

so this is a serious question...

are you going to stick around here now that Noc is gone? I know sometimes people are more a fan of the player, rather than the team. I could Say another name, that we woUld all know whom I was talking about, but maybE I won’t. :-)

Hehe. Here's a serious answer.

I’ve been a Bulls fan since 1989 (that’s 20 years of good and bad basketball). Noce was 10years old when I started following the Bulls.

Admittedly, i was more a Scottie Pippen fan than an MJ fan (but yes, I consider MJ the better player by far) and when he went to Houston and then Portland, I followed his career…but I was a still a Bulls fan, first and foremost.

When Sacramento comes into town, I’m hoping we beat the crap out of them (even as Nocioni scores 50pts on Deng and TT).
