Hahaha.

Sorry, you took me by surprise. That’s really funny (and strangely poignant)

by PatBull on Feb 19, 2009 1:27 AM CST up reply actions

I don't think it's his fault that he was played in some asinine spots during the game.

His coaches on the Bulls simply used him during times where he shouldn’t have been used. In my opinion, he’s a good role player, 3rd off the bench, who can shoot the three and can sometimes slash to the lane. Unfortunately, Skiles and VDN got that right about 2/5 of the time, and more unfortunate that Paxson gave him a ridiculous contract.

by NittanyCub on Feb 18, 2009 4:47 PM CST reply actions

Good news is

Noc should get plenty of PT at the SF position in Sacramento.

Who knows, maybe they can make him effective.

12/31: Fire Vinny Del Negro.

by NBA Observer on Feb 18, 2009 4:48 PM CST up reply actions

Bingo! It was all about the contract & the usage

Pax overpaid him, then the coaches mis-used him.

Being an undersized, underskilled hustle-moth myself, I always liked watching him play. I think he had a great attitude and brought everything he had whenever he was out there. That’s why Skile/Boylan loved him.

I wonder if Noc is sad.

Probably. He was part of some good playoff times here, and I’m guessing he felt appreciated by the organization. Now he has to ship off to Sacramento of all places. I kind of feel bad for him. Hopefully his “grit” earns him some fans over there, as well.

by arjoseph on Feb 18, 2009 4:53 PM CST reply actions

Probably is.

Probably thought they’d win a championship here too.
Probably gonna miss Deng.

not a bad location for him to go to

Sac-town. There are four California teams, I would expect they would love seeing a scrappy guy beat up on other rival Cali teams, outhustle them. He’ll be the guy the other Cali teams love to hate, and Sactown will like him for those reasons….

I’ll miss the Noc-I-Oni crowd chants.

yup

I really can’t hate him. When a player gives it his all on every possession, I can’t resent him for ineffectiveness. Part mis-use, part aging/injuries, but Noc is truly a hard worker. I really hope he becomes good again. Remember those 30/10 games he had two seasons ago? He really has been effective in bursts before this season.

Since the Jordan era...

I think Nocioni has been my favorite Bull. I have a few Nocioni t-shirts that I got while at games and I still plan to break them out during pickup games (he plays like me, hits 3s decently, not the best defender, a lot of hustle, complains, and knows how to flop…). I will seriously miss him. On the other hand, he was just traded to my favorite team in the West (being a Kings and Bulls fan the last few years has been masochistic…) so I will still try to catch him in games.

He was one of the most exciting players to watch at times (and also one of the most excruciating at times, but this is a post for fond remembrance…) with his 7 points in 11 seconds, his blocks of various dunks (I remember he blocked a few 2-handed dunks with only one hand… I also remember many times him getting postered…), and the gazillions of times he took charges.

I met him during an autograph session and was a genuinely nice gentleman (a complete opposite to the mad man seen on the court at times). He seemed like a good locker room guy. He grew and bonded with the “core” guys on this team. I do not think the team is better off without him. Any team is better with a Nocioni on their team. Are there better options out there? Sure, but I’d still pick him to be on my team on most days.

I hope he has a good stint with the Kings. And when he comes back to face us next time, I will be one that will stand, applaud, and cheer when he is introduced (just as I’ve done for Brad Miller, ironically enough…).

I like Noc's passion for the game.

I enjoyed his sense of humor, and his pretending he couldn’t speak English when it suited his purposes. I appreciate all the good times a few seasons back when the team was winning.

And I think, now that he’s no longer with us, that I’ll be able to block the last miserable period from my mind and just appreciate the good and remember him with fondness.

Adios, Noc. Ojala que te vaya bien en Sacramento.

I was at that 'Noh-Cee-Oh-Nee' playoff game.

nutty.

Anyway, I was thinking about this more in terms of Hinirch, but it works with Noc as well:

Obviously there’s no reason for real honors like retired numbers and such, but you know that montage they show before every game with Bulls of the past? It always jumps from Jordan’s final shot to whoever’s on the current team.

I think Hinrich (if he goes) and Noc are certainly candidates to be added to that montage. Though it would likely be better if they waited a few years inbetween.

by 72-10 on Feb 19, 2009 9:03 AM CST up reply actions

Yeah. it ain't nice to say bad things at someone's wake.

(which this is, actually. It’s the wake of Nocioni’s Bulls career)

by PatBull on Feb 19, 2009 7:51 PM CST up reply actions

Bye Noc

Damn I wish we played Sacto again this year. I was always a Noc supporter, even though I knew he and Deng were way too expensive for their production.

Noc played hurt, sometimes to the detriment of his team, but he always gave it his all. If everyone did that the league would be far better.

He will be missed. Glad to see we got out of his contract seeing as our team ain’t what it was when we signed him, but it’s a sad state that the Ben Wallace signing and collapse has lead to a need to have Noc and soon maybe Hinrich leave our team.

Noc was my favorite Bull post MJ I know that he shouldn’t be cuz he certainly wasn’t the best, and he wasn’t having his best year….but he played very hard through everything….

He will be missed, but I’m glad we can move on without his contract for 5 more years….

by majoyenrac on Feb 19, 2009 9:26 AM CST reply actions

I guess he had that Havlicek mystique.

It’s like the people at the stands identified with him and sometimes, he would be going 0-5 and when he hit his first threepointer, the entire stands would erupt. Doesn’t matter that he’s now 1-6…all that mattered was he carried everyone else’s hopes and hoop dreams into fruition.

by PatBull on Feb 19, 2009 7:53 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah

He was the Joe Everyman of the NBA in talent wise, but was a little better than average.

Nice guy, I like his parting words where he said Rose will be a great guard in the NBA and he sees the Bulls int he playoffs this year….and that he’s now a King and will continue to play hard for them as he did for the Bulls….

I wish other guys could be that gracious…..

I am glad we’re under his contract, but it sucks to lose the guy who has been my favorite Bull the past few years (definately not our best, but still my favorite). My wife was PISSED when I told her he was gone too, which is funny…

sore subject

I always felt he should have remained in the starting line-up. He was the only Bull the fans chanted loudly after the J-O-R-D-A-N screams back in the good ol’days. And he was also one of the teams top shooters. It seemed he felt a little underappreciated coming off the bench. He was their emotional leader and forced the rest of the team to play tough. He became a bit of a whiner for my taste the last two seasons. Who can blame him, considering the fact he was benched for The ProjectTyrus.

by akuma77 on Feb 19, 2009 11:51 AM CST reply actions

I don't think he cared

About minutes, or stats, or playing time. He just wanted to play and help win….and when our team stopped winning he became frustrated and at times an unfortunate nuisance because his frustrations would lead to arguing with the players and him creating a hack-a-shaq strategy on guys who can shoot FT’s….

by majoyenrac on Feb 19, 2009 12:01 PM CST up reply actions

Don't know about that

He asked to come off the bench a couple of seasons ago because he thought it would be best for the team. I think maybe he just got frustrated with the last couple of losing seasons, and as has been talked about here at other times, Noc “playing harder” generally means Noc playing out of control.

Man-slave, bring me my PB&J!

by wjb1492 on Feb 19, 2009 12:55 PM CST up reply actions

he didn’t like starting because if he started, it meant the person who should really be starting (Deng) was entire injured or not playing well and that was bad for the team.

Noce went for 19 pts in his 2nd game as a King.

7-11 fromt he field, 4-7 from 3point land (his 3 missed 3pointers were all blocked, 2 of them by West in the last 2 minutes), 3 rebs, 3 assists, 3 steals, 4 TO’s.

When Noc is shooting well he has some value, but I imagine his D was probably not so hot (it never is)

and when you play 32 minutes and only snag 3 rebounds playing SF / PF…that’s, uh, not good.
