Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

Rose star potential could outshine Jordan in Chicago.

Derrick Rose is the new Cash Cow and Star that Jerry Reinsdorf and Chicago Fans have been looking for.

Derrick Rose brings to the table everything that the NBA is looking for.

He is the anti-Iverson.  You will not hear him talk about how he "clowned" Nash or any of the other point guards who are league icons, but now have to look behind their shoulders because a superior talent is on their heels.

He is extremely competitive though he has not developed the killer instinct yet, I think that will come with experience.  He has a quiet confidence that is balanced and not brash.  He is clean cut and even as Jordan did in his youth I believe that Derrick Rose will refine himself to become more comfortable with interviews and the limelight, but grounded enough not to let it go to his head.

He is the total package that fans WILL pay to see.  Reinsdorf is a good business man.  He WILL do whatever is necessary to surround Rose with what he needs to be successful and marketable.  I see MAJOR pieces being moved and/or drafted.

The ultimate team that we have with Rose, I doubt if ANY player that is on the current team will be on that team, with the exception of Tyrus Thomas and maybe Noah.

Derrick Rose is ALREADY a playground ICON and his success in the Chicago Public Leagues has already given him an iconic status already in the hood as proof that if you work you can rise from ANYWHERE.

Derrick Rose carries the hopes of those kids he left behind in Englewood and other inner city playgrounds and is an excellent feel good story for everyone else.

He already has the reputation of being a WINNER on every level he has played in and the NBA will be no different.  Winning in Chicago is good for business and because of the Chicago market it is good business for the NBA.

The NBA will tap into Rose because he presents the image that they want to market WORLDWIDE.  He is not thuggish, but is no whiny prima donna either.  He reminds me of my younger brother.  This is why I predict that his star will eventually rise beyond Michael Jordans, especially if he wins championships, which I think he will.

He can be the best ever and I think that is his goal, but not in a way that offends or calls attention to himself.  His game and his success will speak volumes for him.

He is a product of Chicago and therefore fans will have more of a connection with him than even Jordan, because he is one of us.  Jordan BECAME one of us, but Derrick IS one of us already.

The meaning of this draft pick will last for a long, long time.  When his career is over it will ICONIC, mark my words.

Reinsdorf may be a scrooge, but he is not a fool.

I think that only LEBRON may shine brighter.  Our ride with Derrick Rose will be fun and interesting to watch as we watch him grow from awe struck rookie to an NBA ICON.

jordan was such a world icon

before the nba started reaching out. i was in china in 2000 and talking with natives who barely spoke english, but when i’d say i was from chicago they’d all light up and say “Chicago Bulls!” “Michael Jordan!” and these are people who probably saw very little of his play.

they’ve branded this generation as world icons, even having games in other countries. jordan didn’t have the benefit of that and he reached out just because of how bright he shone. he was electric.

I see....

so your “nick name” jaina, is that derived from the same word that jainism is derived from, in other words, does your “nick” mean winner/conqueror….or maybe it is your real name….

Rose will overtake Jordan in Chicago when it is said and done......

if the team is successful and he is marketed right. He could be a world ICON if he wants to push it that far, but I think it is only a matter of time in Chicago.

He is from Chicago. He was produced HERE. He got his skills HERE and now in a lucky twist he gets to star here for the Bulls after being a high school Icon.

It is set for him to overtake any other sports figure in Chicago because he is home grown.

by Bart71 on Feb 18, 2009 12:39 PM CST reply actions

You FUC***G cares if he's home grown!

Jordan is Chicago. It doesn’t matter if he was home grown or not. He got here when he is 21! Jordan is forever connected to Chicago. Nobody says…oh you know what? He wasn’t from Chicago….so we’re I’m going to downgrade his ICON status. That is insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hahahhahhah #1 Jordan is the Greatest Player of All-Time. Rose will never be the greatest at anything! #2 Jordan just burst onto the NBA scene! He was AMAZING/FREAKISH from the moment he stepped onto the hardwood. Rose is having a good rookie season. Jordan had a GREAT rookie year!!!!! One of the best of all time! The endorsements came flooding in at the start of his rookie year. Let’s see…he was an All-Star his rookie year….he signed his Air Jordan contract his rookie season…..it was like the Beatles from the very start……he was on the cover of Sports Illustrated the first week of his rookie season…….put on a show in the slam dunk contest………took a shitty ass team to the playoffs……scored 35 points in his 2nd playoff game (A WIN) against a tough Bucks team. Rose hasn’t done any of these things. Rose is very athletic and fun to watch……but he isn’t the athletic FREAK JORDAN was!!!!! He’ll never play above the rim the way JORDAN did….nobody ever will……MJ’s first 9 seasons have never been duplicated as far as the Athletic FREAKISHNESS!!!!!!! Plus the passion isn’t there in the United Center…….The Chicago Stadium + Jordan……..everytime I saw him in that building I got GOOSEBUMPS……Rose does not give me that same feeling. Sorry! JORDAN is and was a World ICON!!!!!! Rose will never be that. Jordan = Greatest Player of All-Time + great personality + the most fun player to watch..ever. Plus he played in the greatest era of All-TIME!!!!!!!!!!! The sheer numbers watching the NBA back in the day + it’s popularity dwarfs todays NBA. It’s not even close!!!!!!!!!!! Rose will never reach MICHAEL JORDAN….Muhammad Ali ICON status!

Is this B.J. Armstrong?

Derrick Rose is great, but he is no where near MJ in terms of playing ability and marketing ability. Rose’s social skills are terrible, and I am sure they will improve, but he will not be in movies and countless commercials like Mike was.

I don’t think Rose will even ever be the second best player in the NBA at any point in his career.

I don’t know why I am wasting my time.

Were you old enough to remember the Jordan era?

Did you ever watch him play or remember the height of his celebrity? The NBA was at a different level of popularity (much greater and more embraced) than it is today and Jordan was the face of it. Jordan transcended basketball and was pop culture icon. He graced the covers of hundreds of magazines that went beyond just sports. He was even the star of a Disney movie, remember Space Jam. His stardom still shines today. Your post is pointless and if it was just to get a reaction, well congrats, you got many….Let’s talk about something more entertaining like when the Bulls will make a trade, any trade…

Rose has less charisma than a potted plant

He’ll be a great player, but I don’t know if he’ll ever strike it big as far as endorsements. Tim Duncan is the greatest power forward in NBA history, and it’s not like he gets a ton of endorsements.

Why resort to name calling?

how dare you compare

derrick rose to the GREATEST to ever grace a basketball court.

that’s not fair to rose and its sure as hell isn’t fair to MJ.

by brose on Feb 18, 2009 2:59 PM CST reply actions

He will have to have a teammate of the caliber of Pippen, or maybe a better comparison would be Magic/Worthy or Stockton/Malone.

Also, I can’t think of any great teams that featured a shoot first/pass second point guard as the star player. Not saying it can’t be done, but thought will have to go into building a team around Rose’s game.

im not against your point at all but ill point this out

until jordan, no one thought you could actually build a team around a sg…..chicago can be a city of firsts….

SUPER EPIC FAIL

Rose will never surpass MJ as an icon or as a player. I love Derrick but he has the personality of a rock. Mike was always more open even in his early years.

You got have personality to be a marketing icon. Look at D Wade, Le Bron…

Derrick is way too quiet and boring. Unless he has a total 180 personality wise, then he will not be even close to an icon.

ahhhhahhahahhahahhahahahhaah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This post is HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!! That will never happen. If Lebron and Kobe can’t outshine Jordan. Rose never will! Jordan was big time famous before he even entered the NBA!! He became a world ICON! The likes we hadn’t seen since Muhammad ALI. Plus Jordan is 10 times the player Rose is! And I’m a big time Rose fan. I mean Jordan burst onto the NBA scene since day 1. He scored 45 points in his 9th game his rookie season. That famous rock the cradle dunk in Madison Square Garden in game 6 of this rookie season. The above the rim player that Jordan was his 1st 9 seasons….we have never seen such an athletic FREAK since! It will never happen. You must have missed the Jordan years because this was a moronic post!!!!!!!!!! LOL LOL!!!!!!!! Plus the NBA was sooooo much more popular back then. Just look at the ratings Jordan/Bulls got in all those playoff games plus the FINALS!!!!! Many more people were watching! Rose isn’t even close to Jordans numbers….if you compare rookie seasons. The way Jordan looked to the way he played to his in-game personality, etc. Rose doesn’t have that IT factor! Sorry bro. Plus Jordan got a crappy team to the playoffs his rookie year in a much more stronger league. Rose’s team is so much better than what Jordan had to work with.

by Johnny"B"ull on Feb 18, 2009 9:49 PM CST reply actions

Seriously

Maybe in Chicago….very exclusive part of Chicago. He was actually hanging around the south side a bit when he was drafted. I know a couple of people that actually saw him.
Simeon is still a bus ride away even.
I had no idea he’d be at this level this quickly never thought about it. Or even that he’d go right to the NCAA championship so I can see where this comes from.

But MJ is untouchable even for Lebron and Kobe.

That was a unique time in NBA history! Plus Jordan is the GREATEST PLAYER OF ALL-TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rose won’t even be the best player of his era. He will be very very good…….but outshining Jordan on any sort of lever your talking about………PLEASE! LOL hahhahhahhahhahhhahhahhhahahahah
