John Paxson is not a real employee

Star-divide

This is somewhat of a piggyback to Matt's "Quitter" post as well as a short rant.

I keep reading posts and comments of people saying that they are mad at Paxson for this, mad at Paxson for that, or that Paxson is to blame for not getting whatever trade done, etc. Enough already. John Paxson has nothing to do with any deal or non-deal that is in the works. John Paxson is only an employee of the Chicago Bulls in a physical sense. He is not involved in the talks of any current or proposed deal...Gar Forman (there is no "e" in his name) is our "GM" right now. He is assisted by Steve Schanwald and Irwin Mandel.

This was already reported by Hanley, when speaking about the Suns trade proposal

Gar Forman, the Bulls' director of player personnel who's expected to become general manager once John Paxson gives up day-to-day duties, reportedly has taken the lead in the talks with the Suns.

Though I can't prove it, I even doubt that Paxson is around at the Berto. I'm sure if someone entered his office, they would find a lifeless blob occupying his chair.

So in short, whether the next day and a half produces a trade or not, let's neither congratulate or blame Paxson. He is not a real employee. He is at home crying and eating ice cream (1:00 min mark). Do not attach his name to any deal at all.

Thank you, and good night.

One wonders what the day-to-day duties are if Forman is already performing the duty of talking to the Suns.

People keep talking about about Gar the fish, but maybe Reinsdorf is fluent in French?

We gotta assume he is working deals

Pax was in Pheonix working deals during the All Star break. The best way I have heard this situation described was a fluid situation. Right now Gar is doing some stuff and Pax is doing some stuff. Until the Bulls have their state of the union after the trade deadline no one knows what percentage of the work Gar or Pax is doing.

Once they announce that Pax is stepping down or that he is stepping down at the end of the year, I am looking for the followup question of who is going to be GM after Pax. I would like them to say Gar is going to take over GM as soon as the season ends or we are going to look for a new GM after the season. EIther way I assume Vinny being fired after the season because what GM would take him back?

why do we have to assume that?

No evidence says otherwise. And who said that he was in Phoenix “working deals”? Both Sam Smith and KC were in Phoenix and on CTL last Friday I believe, and both said that they hadn’t seen or talked to Paxson.

The Amare non-deal is/was the most imporant deal talked about during this trade deadline, and Paxson isn’t the one working it. So why would I assume that he is even remotely involved in anything else?

ya they both said he was meeting with other GMs in Pheonix

now he could have been meeting with them for golf or dinner but talking trades is another possibility.
My main point is until the Bulls define his role I can’t trust Brian Hanely who was wrong a lot the last week. He said Gar Foreman was working Bosh Amare Tyrus deal in yesterdays paper…. every other source on the planet reporter once the Suns named Gentry Amare was off the table. I do think Gar is working on deals but until I hear otherwise so is Pax.

I'm sure

They’re both working on it…..if it’s happening. It’s not like the GM’s ever work in a silo.

Gar’s local, I still have to think this is Paxson’s team unless he steps down tomorrow or Friday.

I don't know

All the talk after saving bucks do to the unprecedentedly poor economy makes me wonder about VDN sticking around next year. They are already paying one ex-coach now… I don’t think they (Reinsdorf) would pay two coaches not to be here, along with a third coach who actualy is serviceable (worth more $$$).

Mgmt Hypocrites .. Preaching Accountability all of theses years

Yet, not willing to identify who should take the blame or credit for this

Trade deadline

Activity or Lack of ? Wimps!

Someone should leave 3 old ham sandwiches, one in the locker room and the other two on VDN and Paxson’s desks. And then no one should fess up to it!

I first thought PP&J sandwiches, but that would be a dead givaway…

man up!

They made 3 trades.

I thought Pax loved players with great work ethics

Here he is getting paid like a GM (or even better, since he’s VP of Basketball Operations) while Gar Forman does all the hard work. If Pax has any integrity, he’ll quit or at least give Gar Forman part of his next paycheck.

Why resort to name calling?
