RumorPress: Amare trade unlikely (Kaman somewhat likely)

http://www.rumorpress.net/?p=77

1.) We know the Bulls have an offer out to obtain Amare Stoudemire. Which is based around Drew Gooden, Tyus Thomas, probably Thabo, and picks.

The Bulls would love to make this move, but it seems Steve Kerr and the Suns management have cooled on the idea of trading Amare. A deal is somewhat unlikely at this point. That could change Thursday, we’ll see. It’s up to the Suns, and they will wait until the very last minute on Thursday to decide

3) Bulls will try to go after Chris Kaman. As we all

know, if the Bulls cant get Stoudemire, they will have a back up plan for someone else. Kaman is the most likely candidate to come to the Bulls. I hear it would probably take Drew Gooden and Tyus Thomas to get him as well.

Kaman's a real nice player,

but I don’t know about giving Gooden and Tyrus up for him. Gooden and Gordon come of the books next year, so I’d rather wait till the end of the year and see if Boozer or David Lee are available.

That would be a disaster

Kaman is a terrible fit for us. Doesn’t fit with Rose or anything at all. He would do nothing for this team expect handcuff us for the foreseeable future.

Tell me. What good can come out of having Kaman on our team? What on earth does he bring to the table.

But if we trade Tyrus for Chris Kaman, I will flip shit. Who in the fuck would be our PF?

I don't support the notion that he's ok. he's a career 99 ORtg on a below average USG rate

and he’s supposed to bring most of his value on the offensive end? Plus he’s always hurt. Blech. Pass.

I agree with that

his ORtg/DRtg, Win Shares, and Adjusted +/- all say he’s a slightly above average defensive player and a shitty offensive player. If a coach knew that, Kaman would be a solid pickup, but I don’t think he’s better than Tyrus or Noah right now.

by YaoPau on Feb 17, 2009 11:41 PM CST up reply actions

i'd think

the clips may want tyrus, but hopefully pax would have the sense to say hell no. we’re not going to offer the same package for caveman kaman as amare stoudemire. or so i should hope.

the bulls recognize tyrus’s value, and it seemed like they had all but taken him off the table… except for in amare’s case which, well, i can see why they make the exception.

I think probably 85% of the fanbase would be too.

I’m just wondering who in the hell would be our PF? Noah? A Kaman and Noah frontcourt would be an absolute disaster.

Why would the Clips want Thomas anyway? He’s not a good fit with Z-Bo.

If we don’t get Amare or some other big name, I’d prefer we just stand pat. Brad Miller, Chris Kaman, Samuel Damembert, etc would do nothing for this team.

since we're not getting Amare, moving bench dreck for useful players should be goal #1

we actually have a pretty okay starting 5, or at least that I’m comfortable with going forward this season. It’s the bench that I have the problem with. Paying 30 million bucks to 3 players who don’t start and one of whom is sitting home on his butt is a problem.

Hughes for Samuel Dalembert would be pretty nice. Unfortunately, he's a 2010 killer as his contract

goes an extra year beyond that season. If we’re not planning on playing the 2010 game though, having a third productive big under 28 years old wouldn’t be too bad. A three big rotation of TT / Noah / Sammy D would actually be pretty nice. Getting anything of value for Hughes would be worthwhile, I think.

exactly

nobody on this board should mention Paxson in an official sense from here on out. He’s only on the job in the physical (if that). He’s not the one making any basketball decisions (that’s Gar Forman). He’s not there mentally. Paxson should be thought of as a complete after-thought.

Sam Smith on Kaman
But I’d be as interested in him as Stoudemire or Bosh because Kaman is a seven footer and a true center and is under contract for three more seasons after this one. You can build around he and Derrick Rose, even if Kaman doesn’t seem an All-Star type player.

http://blogs.bulls.com/chicago_bulls_blog/2009/02/will-chris-kaman-be-the-bulls-new-big-man.html

This is like the ultimate extension of “BG should be benched because he’s short” argument. Kaman is as desirable as Bosh and Amare because he’s a 7-footer. sheesh.

OK, so you tell him to rejoin the team when next year begins

given that you don’t find a suitor in the off season. I think the team would be willing to deal with a little disruption for half a season if it meant a huge reward at the deadline.

by tyger1147 on Feb 18, 2009 8:19 AM CST up reply actions

Union getting involved and union doing something are too seperate things

if the Bulls are making a concerted effort to trade him and writing his checks I’m not sure how much they can do. Obviously he should be fairly movable once he becomes an EC. Tinsley is looking at rotting for 2.5 seasons if he cant get off the Pacers so there is obviously more concern there.

The Union wants to force a trade, release, or buy-out. Well you can’t really force a trade, and you force a buy-out by conceding significant dollars.

If Larry really wants to play on 2/20, all he has to do is get in touch with Jerry and say, give me 8 of the $16mil I’m owed and let me go. I’m sure they could find some common ground around that starting point.

Somehow I don’t see that happening tho.

by reprisal on Feb 18, 2009 2:31 AM CST up reply actions

look at this way: what do you think Hughes' next contract will be?

if he puts up 15 pts/gm, he might get somewhere close to the MLE for a few years (yes, teams are dumb). If not, I’d be surprised if he gets a million.

Now, while the numbers might be different in his head, tell me Hughes isn’t thinking this.

by masputo on Feb 17, 2009 11:28 PM CST up reply actions

I'd agree

I’ve had many issues with Pax’s inability to pull the trigger in the past, but if Amare doesn’t end up here, it’s going to be because of the Suns’ decision to keep him in the wake of just firing their coach as opposed to anything that the Bulls could have done.

by Frank the Tank on Feb 18, 2009 8:55 AM CST up reply actions

Well, they just now appear to be looking for a third team

When it was obvious from the beginning that’s what was going to be necessary. Unless they get the Suns under the luxury tax line, you can pretty much forget about it I think.

And unless you can do it without the Bulls staying under the luxury tax line, you can pretty much forget about it I think.

Which, at the end of the day, means you can pretty much forget about it I think. Because to get a third team to take on salary, the Bulls will probably have to pay them extra cash. And perhaps more.

So it basically all comes back to money.

by Sports2 on Feb 18, 2009 9:42 AM CST up reply actions

Did anyone watch the short Bulls blurb on WGN sports tonight at the Berto center?

Most of the players were huddled around Vinny who had his right arm raised in a clenched fist “all for one and one for all” salute while the players surrounding him were touching his hand in solidarity except for Nocioni who was standing alone behind them with an angry/pained scowl on his face. Meanwhile, Tyrus was sporting a full toothed grin that made it look like he had just made the All Star team.

Should I read something cryptic into this brief showing? Is it possible that both have been informed of an upcoming trade or in Tyrus’s case, possibly that he isn’t going anywhwere?

If anyone TIVO’D this, I would like to hear their interpretation.

If you can't answer a man's arguments, all is not lost. You can still call him vile names.
