Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

The positives and negatives of each move can be argued, but this is a good list of the major moves (and non-moves) Pax has made in his time as GM. He may not be actually leaving, but it's interesting to look back at what he's actually done.

Missing moves...

Now that I think about it, this should probably include the extensions given to Deng, Nocioni and Hinrich. Those moves may be the biggest of all going forward in terms of what our salary cap space will allow us to do.

He missed trading away Chandler for PJ Brown

he also missed trading Jamal Crawford for Othella Harrington, and yeah, those extensions… his non-extension of Gordon hurts too.

Crawford?

just a salary dump. Used him to get JYD off the books.

USE THE SOFTWARE. Actions-> Rec/Flag. Reply to comments with the reply button. Rec good fanposts/fanshots so the crud gets pushed down.

Too early to tell on Gordon...

But that non-extension does look bad. Not to restart this discussion here, but the Deng extension might not be too bad. I think his problems are more related to the offense (or non-offense) Vinny is running.

Yeah

He missed the 2nd biggest mistake of his tenure, trading Chandler for JR Smith and PJ Brown, then shipping a 21 year old athletic freak of JR Smith for absolute nickels on the dollar.

Not that JR Smith would have commanded an up and coming player, but he may have nabbed us a healthy older big man/rotational player….Pax should have done a wait and see. Surely JR could have nabbed more than Howard Eisley and the rights to what I believe became Stay Puff (Gray).

I don't know about "worst," but yeah.

To this day, I don’t understand why we shipped JR out for absolutely nothing. Was it all about the ’tude?

The Skiles Factor

It’s the same thing that happened with Tim Thomas. I assume Skiles just didn’t like their approach to the game so he wouldn’t play them and then they would become a distraction. Skiles ruled with an iron fist.

Didn't like this article

Mentioning the Gasol thing was horrible. We don’t know what happened. Come on they traded him for Kwame Brown. We MUST have offered better than that.

The biggest thing I saw was mentioning that Paxson drafted Noc. Noc wasn’t drafted. He was signed as a free agent.

No mention of Eddie Robinson, Tim Thomas, JR Smith, Chandler, PJ Brown not being traded or AD.

Hahaha you guys win!

I was justt trying to put together a list of the major moves, though I guess arguments could be made that what you guys are saying are all major moves. And the Pau thing was pretty clearly stated as speculation. I just figrued that would represent all the possible deals that probably weren’t true. Also how much has Reisndorf’s meddling affected Paxson’s moves? A lot I would guess…

But hey

it was a good idea to make this list. Especially with the rumors of Paxson wanting to resign.

I just subscribe to the theory that...

Reinsdorf’s meddling made Paxson look bad. Not that he was a great GM, he was average at best, but Reinsdorf screwed up any chance at dealing young assets for established stars. He also completely screwed up the coach-hiring process this past summer. His meddling makes Paxson look much worse than the average GM he is.
