TT

What to do, with Larry Hughe?

by Rudey on Feb 10, 2009 11:50 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

oh my

it may be worth it to see how the same Portland fans to laughed at the idea that they’d trade their precious LMA to being completely on board with the deal.

If I were the Suns I’d rather have TT than the jump-shooting ninny. But Bayless is a nice throw-in.

They want to win now.

Aldridge works with Shaq specifically BECAUSE he’s a jumpshooter who’s afraid of the paint.

Asked what kind of player he expects to be in the next five years, he said: "Not a star, but like, a superstar. Something around, like, Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, something like that."

As a

Bulls/Suns fan in the SW desert, my only solace in this idiotic Amare trade was Tyrus and Thabo (your D-League wonder!)

The Colangelos always had top notch PGs (and never a big man ‘til Amare, and then Shaq!), but Thabo looks like more of a PG than Bayless to me. And LMA? Well I’ll be nice and just say I never liked him, so YUCK!

Roy, oden, lma, rudy, bayless

are all top ten players in the minds of blazers fans. They are even worse than pax loving kirk and noc

Well....

Roy actually is in the top ten.

This is bullshit

Amare Stoudemire has complained every day since Terry Porter became the new coach that he doesn’t like playing in their new offense. The Blazers play at a mind-numbingly slow pace. And he’s the exact kind of player (or at least carries the rep) that Portland brass has tried to stay away from.

that and they want to put him next to Oden for the next 7 years…who hopefully is at least fairly similar to shaq in many ways?

stealing this(from KD I think) the blazers are the suns with a glacial pace.

is it the pace, or his touches relative to Shaq's?

(I don’t know, asking genuinely)

maybe its just PHX

Marion wanted out, got traded, got worse. D’Antoni leaves in a generally unpleasant way, team gets worse, doing a great job with an awful knicks roster. They hire Terry Porter, the defense gets even worse, he might get canned way before VDN even if VDN stays the same. Amare wants out, Nash is playing significantly worse, etc.

by reprisal on Feb 11, 2009 1:04 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I'd say it's the pace

D’Antoni is the coach for more than half the season when Shaq came in last year, Amare actually played better. Shaq was used properly as the supporting role player to defend the post and provide rebounding help. Terry Porter is crazed to think he’s dumping it to Shaq from the Lakers while Amare Stoudemire becomes more disinterested in the team.

it sucks being in an offense that doesnt inflate your point totals

but the problem is that the suns have no defense. Amare needs someone to play help defense down low…not shaqs forte at this point in his career and that’s where marion helped. And Steve Nash is a turn style. Because of it, every aspect of their team has crumbled this year.

So they want a frontcourt that features 2 guys with massive injury histories?

It was a big deal in the off season, people were talking about him having to get surgery and what not. But nobody has mentioned it since the season started.

Maybe the Suns are spewing bullshit to increase other teams' offers?

I really don’t see why Portland would do this.

I would do this in a heartbeat if i was portland.

Maybe its from watching what happened to our amazing core of young’uns. Rudy/Roy/Outlaw/Stat/Oden for the future is a pretty damn good squad. And what team has ever won a ship with a soft power forward?

I doubt Pritchard is bluffing.

if oden becomes a force, which he will be

assuming he isnt in a wheel chair in a few years, they wont have any problems with that. Shaq can’t move or jump anymore + no more marion = all blame goes to amare…rightfully so, but he can be effective if there is help around him.

by lampnasty on Feb 11, 2009 1:04 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I'm not sold on Oden. Dude can't stay on the court because he can't stop fouling people.

He’s not that athletic and he had knee surgery already before playing a single NBA game. He’s going to be a bust, especially in light of how tremendously awesome Kevin Durant is going to be.

he's got a while to develop but the talent is there

dude is what 20 years old…We’ve seen how long its taken for Noah and Thomas to even show signs.

by lampnasty on Feb 11, 2009 1:20 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Noah was good right from the beginning and Tyrus was good whenever he got minutes

also, those guys are both more athletic than Oden and don’t have the injury history that he does. Oden looks like a creaky old man out there.

Noah was older as a rookie than Oden is now

It’s easy to forget how young/athletic he is since he looks like an old man, though if I was a blazer’s fan I’d hold my breath every time he jumped.

by ajc53 on Feb 11, 2009 12:08 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Well, fouling is probably the easiest rookie problem that can be fixed...

….almost simply with “experience”. Thomas’s fouls have gone down, and they were/are both at 6.0/6.1 as rookies.

Viva la nuance! Reading comprehension rules!!!

by tyger1147 on Feb 11, 2009 8:54 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

true, but with Oden it's not just the fouling that concerns me

it’s the fact that he moves like he’s a 50 year old man playing ball at the YMCA. The guy runs like he has two left feet.

it's true, he does run like that. just because it happened to be pointed out

in Simmons’ newest podcast by his buddy House doesn’t make it any less legitimate. Oden is going to be a bust. He already is to me because Durant is so much better.

That may be the stupidest reason somebody is considered a bust in the history of the world.

Greg Oden shot attempts rookie year: 5.7
Kevin Durant shot attempts rookie year: 17.1

Greg Oden minutes per game rookie year: 22.8
Kevin Durant minutes per game rookie year: 34.6

Kevin Durant averaged more shot attempts in his rookie year than Greg Oden’s career high attempts.

The Blazers just do not run plays for the big fella, whereas KD was the focal point of the offense since the get go.

Oden 16 points 10 rebounds 3 blocks in 14 point win over the Thunder. (yes go ahead and look up his stats from the game in OKC last week, if anything the score is tied at 1-1)

I'm not sure this is a good idea for Portland.

It’s not just injuries. It’s Amare might leave anyway. They lose their “point guard of the future.” They lose one of their “building blocks”. And all for a player who might leave them in two years anyway, or get hurt?

It seems like an unnecessary gamble. All they need to do is stand pat and make a minor tweak or two.

This is bull

This is PHX way of trying to get Pax to throw in Noah and Tyrus. If this trade was on the table PHX would be sending the paperwork into the league office.

by kingj41 on Feb 11, 2009 8:48 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

I have to agree.

This must be the Suns counter offer NOT what Portland offered.

by J Theory on Feb 11, 2009 8:57 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Agreed

2 weeks ago PHX would’ve laughed at the possibility of Noah sweetening the deal. Now they’re practically demanding we include him and TT. As much as Amare would help our front line offense, the defensive lineups of Amare/Noc or Amare/Gray would be just dreadful.

I guess that could be helped by

the possible Etan Thomas/Mike James for LH but Thomas is hurt, so we’re basically punting this year if we do this deal, unless we plan on winning 121-119 every game.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think it would be in Portland’s best interest for the eastern conference Bull’s to NOT give a western conference rival an extra good young player in any potential trade?

The way things are going in Phx

They won’t even make the playoffs. They are the odd team out right now and trading Amare can’t possibly give them a better shot at improving their record.
