Chad Ford chat
Chris (Chicago): Does John Paxson FINALLY pull the trigger and make a deal for a superstar?SportsNation Chad Ford: (1:50 PM ET ) He better. I'm not sure he wants to be known as the guy who, while in desperate need of a big man, passed on everyone from KG, to Pau Gasol, to Amare. With that said, I'm not sure the Bulls have enough to do an Amare deal. Tyrus Thomas is a nice asset. So is Drew Gooden's expiring contract. They can offer more young players (like Noah or Sefalosha) or draft picks. But from the sounds of things, the Suns may have a better offer. Too bad. A combo of Derrick Rose, Luol Deng and Stoudemire would bring a lot of hope back to fans in Chicago.
I'd love to know that other offer.

I would hope Paxson has the self-confidence
to not worry about standing pat putting him in the ‘no balls association’ amongst the ESPN yucksters.

i'd presume this is why
reinsdorf has given him the “lifetime contract” tag. don’t feel like you have to blow up the team for a star because espn says you can only win with a star. if they insist on noah and tyrus, there’s nothing wrong with abandoning amare, trying to move hughes/noc/kirk, and rebuilding around rose-bg-lu-tyrus-noah. last i checked those guys were all still young
i too would also love to know that better offer
looking around at salaries today i didn’t see many teams that could offer more; the knicks come to mind, but would phoenix want to take on lee knowing he’s due for a big raise? portland has the assets, but they’ve been reluctant to move their young stars and i don’t think lafrentz/outlaw is a better offer than the bulls’. oklahoma city maybe? maybe jeff green and some of their expirings, and one or two of their 2000 draft picks coming up? i remember reading somewhere earlier that there was a contender that hadn’t been heard from, and really oklahoma city and portland are the only two teams i could think of that could offer more, and i’m not sure either of them want to.
Unless Phoenix is getting Brook Lopez, Spencer Hawes, or LaMarcus Aldridge
There isn’t a better deal out there.

brook and spencer???
i would think tyrus has more value than them. lopez is debatable, but spencer hawes? plus, i dont think either of those teams have any expiring deals, which phoenix seems to clearly want.
i dont think that would be enough for phoenix
the insurance part of raef’s deal has gotta be enticing to their cheapo owner though. plus portland’s been reluctant to move bayless.
Bayless is just an example
it could be Fernadez and Outlaw and LaFrentz. That is the only team I could see making a better offer.
although from portland's standpoint
wouldn’t they kind of have an overkill in the front court? pryz, amare, aldridge, and oden all fighting for minutes? i’m not sure portland would really want amare. i still think oklahoma city is the sleeper in all this; green, some of their expirings, and a couple first rounders might be better than our tyrus centered deal
Agreed, but wouldn't they have concerns about Amare staying once his contract is up?
I really don’t see that guy spending his career in OKC, but who knows…

Pritchard loves talent
Oden and Amare is a better combo than Oden and Albridge. They can always move Albridge in the offseason. I’m pretty sure the Bulls would give them the guards they need for Albrige.
Bayless isn't that good to warrant being the centerpiece
It’d have to be some combo of Aldridge, Outlaw, Raef, or Sergio. I dunno, it’s pretty doubtful Portland bothers to make the trade.

Hoopsworld is reporting that the Bulls are the front runners
But they make public some other offers. And, according to them, Detroit made a nice one. I wonder if this is what Chad Ford is talking about
The Pistons are in the mix for Stoudemire, their offer is said to be built around the ending contract of Rasheed Wallace and likely Amir Johnson. Much like the Bulls reported offer, this deal does give the Suns what they said they wanted, and that’s future flexibility and enough talent to compete for homecourt. Say what you will about Rasheed Wallace the person, Rasheed Wallace the player could bring the grit and toughness defensively the Suns are missing, and Amir Johnson is an exceptional future talent. Terry Porter’s familiarity with Wallace certainly would make the transition easier. If the Pistons put a first round draft pick in the mix, that might be the best deal for the Suns’ defined goals of flexibility and a first round playoff berth this season. Can the Suns squeeze a little more talent out of the deal remains to be seen. Pistons sources said Joe Dumars is not really engaging in talks about possible deals around the team, but the source said Joe tends not to be chatty when he’s working on a deal.
i thought we had all given up on the
“amir johnson has loads of potential” thing. he sucks. granted, i could see why phoenix would want rasheed over the gooden/simmons combo (rasheed not only has a bigger expiring deal, but also is 10 times the player gooden is), but really tyrus, thabo, and a 1st rounder blows amir johnson out of the water in terms of future considerations. of course, phoenix usually thinks with their wallets first, so who knows what they’ll do.
I don't see how bigger expiring is an advantage....
That is just more salary the Suns have to take on. That’s part of the reason why I don’t see why Simmons has to be included in a trade.
For example, the Bulls could do Tyrus Thomas, Drew Gooden, and Thabo Sefolosha for Stoudemire, Amudston, and Barnes. That sheds $3.832939 on Phoenix’s cap this season (whatever the prorated amount is for this late in the season).
While if Detroit did Sheed and Johnson for Amare, Amudson, and Barnes, then Phoenix is sitting at -$930,955, actually taking on salary in that trade.
Having a smaller expiring while invoking the 125% and minimum salary exceptions is more valuable than having a larger expiring imho.

It would be interesting to see if maybe the Bulls could sweeten the pot a little by
involving a third team. Maybe you trade Hinrich to Golden State for one of their young big men and include him with Tyrus to get the Amare deal done…

But GS wants Amare
Why would they help us get him?
If we aren't careful, the leanness we now feel will be the starvation of those we serve.

It's not like he's the only player they want
I’m sure if they felt an Amare trade wasn’t viable they would look to do other things, and in the past it’s been rumored they like Hinrich. I’m not saying it’s likely, but it could be a possibility.

Because their front office is retarded?
I dunno.

they aren't gonna get him. Suns want cap relief, GS has no expirings to do it.
Might as well get a useful piece like Hinrich if you can, since there’s no way Suns deal them STAT.
Vinny discovers frontcourt by accident. Someone re-smash Gooden’s groin!
