Here are the Bulls related Q and As:

Ivan V (isidro847@yahoo.com)
When are the bulls going to can VDN and hire a real coach? I mean other than hair that glistens in the moonlight and makes grown men cry in envy, he doesn't know jack about coaching. That loss against the Nets made me feel like finding the nearest puppy and drop kicking it 30 yards. If this "losing streak" continues, this should be the final straw for GarPax. Thoughts?

David Thorpe (12:02 PM)
I certainly do not know what will happen there, but I watched the game last night. Nets were more organized and focused. Bulls have some injury issues.

Christopher (Germany)
Are you as high on John Wall as Chad Ford, who called him a slightly better prospect than Derrick Rose?

David Thorpe (12:05 PM)
Yep.

Enrique (Chicago)
Thorpedo!!!!!! please answer.... The Bulls announcer Stacey King brought up a good point yesterday in how Vinny uses DRose. Why does he continue to Run Pick and Roll at the top of the key with Noah everytime when it only clogs the lane for rose since more defense can block the whole? I think vinny stinks as a coach despite the injury woes of the bulls, i think most of the plays should be designed to use Rose' strengths but yet they're not, instead it takes the ball out of his hands.

David Thorpe (12:09 PM)
That's funny. I thought it was the dumbest thing I heard on tv all week. Ballscreens create 4 on 3 advantages for teams. Oh, and every time they scored off one, he said "simple game". Once in a while, I like isolating him with no screen. But not too often.

Dror (Israel)
More career MVPs - Durant or Rose?

David Thorpe (12:17 PM)
I would be shocked if Rose ever won an MVP.

Enrique (Chicago)
Thorpe, responding to your answer to my other question, but doesn't running the pick and roll so frequently when you dont have shooters, make it even more difficult for Rose since the defense collapse since they're not worried about a gordon type of shooter? Last year Rose scored a little easier through penetration because of Gordon. I think Rose can beat any guard off the dribble but yet vinny still thinks he needs help.

David Thorpe (12:18 PM)
Try beating a guy off the dribble, all game, for 82 games. While having to defend pg's as well. Please.

Doug (Chicago)
What type of player do you feel would fit the Bulls better, a Wade or Joe Johnson type SG or a big man like Bosh or Amare?

David Thorpe (12:33 PM)
JJ would be fine, Wade would take the ball out of Rose's hands to much. Bosh or Amare would be great, of course.

SteveFitz (Cicero, IL)
Would Avery Johnson be a good fit for the Bulls if VND is let go?

David Thorpe (12:53 PM)
Probably.

SteveFitz (Cicero, IL)
Bosh + Johnson = best offseason the Bulls can have, right?

David Thorpe (12:54 PM)
Probably.

DJ (Chicago)
Youd be shocked if Rose ever won a MVP? Guess Steve Nash winning put you in coma for a few days.

David Thorpe (12:58 PM)
If Nash played for any other team, that never would have happened. How many pg's have won one recently besides him?

DJ (Chicago)
Hey Thorpe, last week you said Deng was the Bull's best player. Deng cant even create his own shot and of course is such a gentleman that he lets others tie their shoes before he pressures them.

David Thorpe (1:00 PM)
This year, there is no debate. Deng and Noah are the best two guys on the team. Today. Rose may have more upside, but that's all it is now. I think he'll get there, but he's not there yet.

Stats lie. Watch the games. Luol Deng is part of the problem.

also Noah is getting beasted lately his defense has really dropped off without Tyrus.

Noah has improved though and is probably the second best player on the team next to Rose. Stats will tell you Deng and Noah are though.

What do you hate about Deng?

That he’s soft, that he shies away at the end of the games? Those are valid concerns and prevent him from being a really good player, but one doesn’t need to be a very good player to be one of the top players on the Bulls. Luol’s a solid defender, has an excellent mid-range shot and is a decent help defender. He’s not great, but he’s one of the best we have, and he’s much, much more consistent than anyone other than Noah.

Metal sharpens metal.

And this guy right here understands and knows what leadership is all about: The coach, the hall of famer......... Dick Butka! George Ryan

The Bulls shrink like a dick in cold water.

He's overrated and overpaid. Thats all.

It’s one thing to hit a few shots and get a couple of rebounds during the long drag of the NBA game when players coast. Everyone knows the NBA game is played in the 4th quarter and more times than not Luol Deng is invisible and inconsistent. He doesn’t create for others and doesn’t stretch the floor. He’s also relies heavily on the college three. He’s just not a savvy basketball player. Nice guy but you can have him.

How are teams even halfway close to take over if they don't have....

….guys scoring 18-20 pts in quarters 1-3? Would you rather have Hinrich or Salmons trying to score those points?

In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).

Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.

last time i checked

points are of equal value no matter when they’re put on the scoreboard.

"They should. They better. I'm Vinny Del Negro!"

Notice he didnt respond to that part of the question

Deng requires someone else to make him better and set him up therefore he cannot be the best player on the team. It’s silly.

hey now, Kurt hate is perfectly valid

1. Cut a hole in a box
2. Put your Kirk in that box
3. Make some team open that box

"Ballscreens create 4 on 3 advantages for teams."

That would be the case if you had to worry about guarding the other guys and couldn’t cheat on Rose. Nobody on the Bulls will make the other team pay for cheating on Rose on the screen. They would have a better chance using Deng as the screener because at least you have to respect his mid range shot from there. The other teams don’t have to guard Noah out there, they just let him have that tornado jump shot.

agree

I’d like to see the screens with Miller in the game. He can pop it or pass it.
Noah and Rose on the court running this (with Salmons’ craptacular shooting, no Kurt, no BG, no TYrus even) means the defense cuts off Rose and the play goes nowhere.

All your base are belong to Vinny.

by BCs71 on Dec 9, 2009 1:33 PM CST up reply actions

It hasn't been much an advantage to have Noah and Miller at the top of the key with

the ball. Yesterday, however, Rose used the screens better and created something for himself (plus Taj hit shots). So we shall see

by Basketball Smurf on Dec 9, 2009 1:32 PM CST reply actions

If the Bulls wanna run the pick and roll they better find a screener who is a scorer because you can sag off Noah

and Miller isn’t that good either. If you had Bosh then you got something. It takes two good players to run the screen and roll. Stockton to Malone made it deadly but both were studs.

The Bulls will have Noah come high set the screen as the team sags off noah and doubles/traps Rose making him dump the ball back off to Noah who holds the ball and looks unsure what to do because he’s a high energy rebounder out of his element.

clicked before my point

Anyone watching the Bulls should see that running a high pick and roll with Derrick is stupid. The disadvantage of the defense doubling and forcing the ball out of his hands outweighs the outcome of him finding the open player. They dont have a player who rolls hard to the hoop and then can finish( lets say if Amare was on the other end ).

That leaves pick and pop action. Their best pic and pop option is Brad Miller taking a wide open 18ft jumper. Why would anyone want that instead of Derrick free to break down his man and get to the basket. The Bulls only goal is to continue to develop Derrick and running pic and roll in the very few important late game situations and forcing the ball out of his hands is ludicrous.

Stacy was right on with his rant yesterday in the 3rd or 4th quarter. If Thorpe actually watches the Bulls offense beside just focusing in on his 3 favorite clients( ahem players) and cant see that Stacy is right then I feel sorry about his basketball IQ.

by Jscho316 on Dec 9, 2009 3:49 PM CST up reply actions

The only good thing that screen can do for Derrick is getting the opposing center to switch to Derrick,

kinda like what happens in New Orleans with Chris Paul and David West. Either Paul takes his man off of the dribble or Post backs the little guy down. Too bad we don’t have a big man that can take advantage of a mismatch like West does.

Metal sharpens metal.

Yeah Thorpe basically lauds Deng over Rose even tho I called him out on it.

This team will only go as far as Rose takes them. I also didn’t get a chance to respond as a follow-up to theMVP question/statement I posed, being on my cel phone and at work, but Nash and Iverson are the two most recent pgs to win MVP. I’ll follow-up next week with that.
