Would U Make This Trade?...

And how realistic do u think it is with the teams involved?

I just put it together thinking we could get something better for Ty than just Harrington.  Plus Gay is player I think works well in our system.

Star-divide

Here's the trade:

Chicago trades:                                                       Memphis trades:

Luol Deng to Memphis                                           Rudy Gay, Steven Hunter, and Sam Young to Bulls

Ty Thomas and John Salmons to Utah                Darrell Arthur to Jazz

Jazz Trades:

Carlos Boozer to Bulls

Why we do it:

Getting Gay gives us way more explosiveness, and better scoring at the 3.  Getting Boozer gives us a big time boost scoring in the post.  Plus we can still go out and grab a 2010 FA because we clear Salmons and Deng's deal off the books, while adding Boozer and Hunter's expiring contracts.

Why Memphis does it:

They have a team full of gunners, adding a guy with star potential, who doesn't need the rock in his hands all the time has to look enticing.  Plus I've heard Gay and Mayo don't really get along.  Mayo has been anointed their "Go to Guy".

Why Utah does it:

They get a nice complement to Milsap in Thomas and a legit SF in Salmons.  They've been missing that this season.  Arthur's is a young big that may be worth something, but was really just an add-in to make salaries work.

I'd do the trade

But why would Memphis give up Gay and Young for Deng? If they would do the trade, heck yeah, I’ll take them though.

Who knows?

Memphis has been known to do some very bone headed trades…

See Gasol, Pau.

Love the trade

I’ve doubt that this happen, though. Gay is way better than Deng and Memphis would be too thin at the PF position. Besides, who would be the Bulls SG? Hinrich?

In actuality, Gay is only better at scoring than Deng. Deng is the superior rebounder and defender. Gay averages 4 more points a game but to be honest Deng is the more complete player. The only other advantage to Gay is so far he’s been healthy.

Also Memphis still has Randolph and Gasol at the 4 spot….they don’t ever play Arthur anyway

Deng is the better overall player, but in terms of fit, I'd like someone like Gay

because he has range to space the floor and as you mentioned, he can score. The Bulls need a scoring punch, desperately. I also like getting Gay because it allows the Bulls to wipe Deng off the books (I like Deng and all, but with a declining cap (and more importantly for the Dorf, a declining luxury tax cap) and his penchant for injury, he’s overpaid. In a normal economy and without injuries, I think he’s worth the $, but not with his frailties, bad fit with Rose, and Dorf’s lack of checkbook fortitude). Boozer would also help the Bulls score.

1. Cut a hole in a box
2. Put your Kirk in that box
3. Make some team open that box

Creative idea

The problem with our trades is we do not know what the other teams are thinking. To this day I do not know why Heisley did not take the bulls offer for Gasol. He ends up giving up Gasol for nothing. I understand the explanation that he wanted to dump salary but do not believe he could have accomplished that with the Bulls and received more in return. We tend to blame the Bulls when trades do not happen without understanding how screwed up management is on the other team’s they deal with.

Of course I'd do the trade.

Gay will be a RFA, so the Bulls could save a lot of money

by trading for him and letting him walk.

hah!!!!

In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).

Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.

Good trade ideas. Memphis is always looking to trim salary and they know Gay wants an extension of at least 10-12 million per. They can dump 3 players for Deng who’s makes too much money but Gay is going to want more than Deng is making anyway. And they need more rebounding and defense which Deng can provide in spades also doesn’t need the ball as much. I think Memphis would do it.

This idea could actually work out for all teams involved and in the end we can drop Boozer and Gay for more cap space.

Finally a good trade idea that is actually somewhat feasible in basketball and financial terms

I would love it...

i just don’t see it happening. It is alot easier to conduct trades online than in real life.

I doubt Memphis makes this trade however

I wouldn’t mind throwing our money at Gay after we strike out with all the big name free agents. Memphis is a team the Bulls should be able to definitely outbid. I think Gay is a good fit next to Rose because he is willing to shoot 3s, he has a diverse offensive game and he is good on the break. The Bulls really need to get back to pushing the tempo and need someone capable offensive threats to surround Rose.

Add the fact that Gay may be looking to up his profile, and the Bulls should really look at targeting him.

I don't understand...

How Memphis can possibly afford to give up 3 underpaid contributing players (Darrell Arthur is hurt, but is a contributing player when healthy) for 1 overpaid one in the middle of the season?

I mean Deng might theoretically fit the Grizzlies roster better because he could boost our 1-on-1 defense, but where do we find enough guys to take all the missing minutes?

Also the O.J. Mayo “go-to-guy” distinction is not true. It’s normally a definite mix of either Zach Randolph or Marc Gasol (hot hand) and Rudy or O.J. (again, hot hand). O.J. Mayo isn’t even close to ready to be the focal point of an offense.
