stop holding back with your commentary, fsound. I agree with you except I would add

Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo to the 12th power.

If the 4th quarter didn’t demonstrate beyond any doubt the Bulls need an IMMEDIATE coaching change than I say those fans should work at the Lighthouse for the blind. My former 6th grade park district team ran a smoother motion offense than Vinny’s vanguards. FIRE this pathetic empty suit now before he turns Derrick Rose into another Duhon.

Among the foulest words in the English language are in no particular order:
DelNegro
Reinsdorf
Foreman
Paxson
Smith
Turner
Gibson (sick of hearing how his awesomenss justifies dumping Tyrus)
(the entire assistant coaching staffs of the Bulls and Bears)

Thanks again for making Hunter your first guard off the bench and adding Pargo, you inept incompetent idiots.

Lakers 108, Heat 107

great, great game to watch beginning to end … buzzer beaters by kobe at the end of both halves … wade nearly stole the game in the 4th quarter, passing, playin’ D and making plays despite poor shooting night

i’m gonna be dreaming tonight of wade passing to noah, tyrus?, rose …

Just read through the overflow thread

and I think people are misdirecting their anger at Lebron, I’m not defending him for dancing or anything, but I was more mad about Vinny just simply gave up on this game when we’re down by 15 and still had 9 or 10 minutes to play. A real GM and front office should have him gone by the next game.

"Its not the lack of talen thats killing this team (not completely anyway) but its the lack of direction for that talent…"

i disagree. VDN sucks, yes, but this team is bereft of talent. Lets just list all the things the Bulls lack:

- no player with a post game. At all. None. There is not one guy on this team who can post a player that is equal to him in size.

- no 3 pt shooting. There is not 1 player on this team anyone would consider a high level 3pt shooter.

- consistent penetration or 1 on 1 play. Only two players on this team can get into the defense and make a play. But since no one can knockdown a jumper and the big men aren’t a threat, the B

- no rebounding or size. On most nights, the Bulls are undersized at the 4 and 5. Only 1 player on this team is a high level of rebounder. Not a high level rebounder for his position (Deng), but a high level rebounder period.

- injuries or no injuries – this team has 4 above average NBA players. Rose and Salmons are painfully inconsistent. Deng can’t do anything against tough man to man defense. And Noah has no offensive skills.

So at the end of the day, this team is very easy to defend. They have enormous problems scoring. And the only way they can win is by playing ugly basketball. You add in 15 minutes of Hunter and 10 minutes of Pargo and this team has almost no chance gets quality competition.

Its very hard to game plan when your team isn’t good at anything.

I dont completely disagree with u

but the thing is theres few teams that have all the things that you listed, and 2010 is about getting a guy who can do a few if not all of those things…but for this season, for right now, and for the last few seasons my gripe has been the direction of this team…

You talk about a low post presence, while its true the bulls lack one in its truest sense, they dont need a traditonal low post presence, they basically need a way to get shots (good high percentage looks) when the jump shot isnt falling. While post play is one way to get this, a team like miami manages otherwise…because they have a player that penetrates and gets to the line. If you consider our bulls team, rose is a guy who has the ability to do this, but in high school he never had to (bigger and stronger) and in college he played in a drive and kick offense (where he was still bigger and stronger) so he honestly has no idea how to penetrate and draw contact or how to react when a big man (shaq!!!) is just sitting in the paint…thats coaching….

you bring up 3 point shooting and again i think we have 3 pt shooters on this team…more than some teams (76ers) and though non of them is really a stellar shooter, they shouldnt be THIS BAD…Take hinrich for example, even without that stellar 06 year he had, during the skiles era he was a good 3 pt shooter (40%) so its not like he forgot how to shoot, in fact during preseason his shot actually looked alot smoother…but its not just a slump, i think its again coaching, since after the skiles era he hasnt been able to get back to that shooting range…Its not just being open, but about having plays designed so guys like hinrich (who second guess themselves cuz they dont know if they should look for thier shots or team mates, especially if they missed a few shots in a previous game) can truly shoot with confidence. Say what u want about skiles, but the guys he played alot (like hinrich) he instilled alot of confidence in them….thats coaching

Consistant penetration is once again something that should be in rose, the hornets when they were making lots of noise with paul only had paul as the prime penetrator, maybe thats not fair since its comparing rose to paul, how about the nets with devin harris….how about kyle lowry or sessions….these guys arent better than rose (well roses downside comparison is devin harris) but they had good years with thier teams when they were penetrating….its not some instinctive knowledge, its a coach designing a scheme where they can penetrate, and then its players like deng and salmons and hinrich and noah (who last year did great playing off roses penetration) being where they should be and hitting jumpers…its about a coach designing the plays and the options so that the pg like rose doesnt pass it off immediately, or when he does pass it he knows who he should pass it to…it takes time but its something that should be taught to rose, right now he penetrates and pulls out or doesnt even look at the rim….today especially it annoyed the hell out of me…

In terms of rebounding, how many teams can you name that have a better rebounder than noah? As good as noah? do any team have more than one of those special rebounders? Rebounding again has to do with a scheme (2k also preaches this but ive known it for awhile) and we should have a great rebounding team since we have guys who are athletic for thier positions, guys like rose who can jump higher than almost anyone at his position, salmons is a big guard with great length, deng, noah and thomas….great rebounders…but this year you see tons of failure to box out guys, its such a crucial thing but when a shot is fired (especially on the defensive end) PUT A BODY ONE SOMEONE!!! its so fundemental and you see teh bulls players fail to do this so often…even noah!!…again rebounding, team rebounding (which is key) requres a scheme and dicipline…these guys had it with skiles and they were no where near as big or athletic then as they are now….

aside from the injuries, this team can be so much better if they just were coached better, at least with some direction. Right now it seems the only thing vinny is preaching is good shot selectin, which i interpret as shooting within your range, so thats why everyone is jacking up quick 20 footers….pass the ball…which explains why we keep getting near the end of the shot clock and still people keep passing the ball….be aggressive but dont rush…and play hard….

The thing that really gets me is, that today was winnable…screw lebron and his dancing….keep the players in the game, have some sort of a scheme, rose keeps attacking the basket takes to the air….fine maybe we dont win…but we dont get blown out, we give them a fight, and we learn something…

Rose especially needs to learn something, if nothing more…a new coach is in order to teach rose that his athleticism makes him a threat on offense all the time….he needs to learn that selling contact and getting to the line is part of whats called being good in the nba…

On Behalf of Sue, Wjb, majoyenrac, Bullshooter and all the other Hinrich fans...Ill keep the Hinrich Hope coming...There will be light!

by piccolomair on Dec 5, 2009 4:27 AM CST up reply actions

"Rose especially needs to learn something, if nothing more"

That to me is the biggest indictment of our coach and front office…even more so than the rumored infatuation with Taj as the replacement for TT.

Every time I read Derrick talking about needing to be more aggressive, it drives me crazy. Derrick was the #1 pick in the draft (marketing/buzz potential = high), he’s actually a local kid (Fan support/loyalty potential = high), and he’s such an incredible athlete, even guys like DWade and Chris Paul have conceded he’s more physically gifted then them (Superstar potential = high).

My point is the Bulls knew they had the #1 pick before they choice to hire VDN as coach. The cynic in me feels they would have botched the D’Antoni hire even if both parties knew they had the #1 pick beforehand. To hire someone with no previous coaching experience or pedigree is beyond inexcusable given what fell in their lap. And to know we’re in year 2 of waisting Derrick’s time makes me HATE this organization with passion.

Meh, we’ll take this unproven douche of a hairdo that says he cares about player development but we don’t know if he really means that or if he can even do it if he does mean it because, you know, he’s never, ever even coached before at any level in any capacity.

But he is cheap."

I don't disagree

this team can be coached up, especially in regards to defense and rebounding. They have a long, athletic starting unit that should be able to get deflections, steals and disrupt the other team. They should be able to run. Some of that failure falls on coaching. But some of these talent needs (like a low post presence and big bodies to hold defensive rebounding position) have been glaring needs for years. And the Bulls front office hasn’t addressed them. Than they bring in a novice head coach who I don’t believe has the necessary eye for detail (why else wouldn’t we be getting 5 guys to the boards) and who really isn’t prepared to instruct young players. Its very frustrating to watch.

ps sorry about the bad grammar and typos. I was pissed and tired.

we have another game tonight that is much more winnable, and we have an extremely depleted rotation. no sense burning out the starters last night in the off chance that we somehow come from 15 down in the 4th on the road to beat one of the best teams in the league. san antonio has been surrendering in situations like that for years.

wow check this out..
If Al Harrington is getting traded to the Chicago Bulls he’ll go kicking and screaming.

"I love New York," Harrington said today. "I love being a Knick. I told ya’ll that. We’ll see."

The Knicks are reportedly interested in Bulls forward Tyrus Thomas and could trade Harrington to complete the deal. Jerome James would be shipped to New York to make the deal work under the salary cap.

If a deal happens don’t expect it to happen any time soon. Thomas has a broken arm and is out at least another two weeks.

"Donnie (Walsh) hasn’t told me anything," Harrington said. "Me and him have a pretty good relationship so until he tells me I don’t think anything is serious. He wouldn’t trade me before he gave me a heads up. He did that when I went to Golden State and when I went to Atlanta. We’ve got that kind of relationship."

If the Knicks go out and get Thomas what does that say about rookie Jordan Hill, the team’s lottery pick? Other than experience what does Thomas do that Hill can’t? Sounds like if the Knicks trade for Thomas they are admitting that passing on Brandon Jennings was a huge mistake.

Kobe and Wade went at it

The best part of the matchup was the fact that Wade and Kobe defended each other. Nowadays you see these so called superstar players not playing against the other teams best player, but these two did and they went hard at each other. It reminded me of old school ball Magic vs Isaiah, Nique’ vs Bird, Drexler vs Jordan and these two did there thing. It was especially dynamite after seeing Lebron act like such a prick, Kobe and Wade are in my eyes the two top players in the league.

in the 4th when kobe did his 6 pts in under a minute, they cut to the heat bench, to wade in particular, and he was shaking his head and had this look like “let me back in, kobes acting all cocky, just wait till i get back in” i liked that….wade with a depleted roster still wants to at guys and thinks he can win….

Is Derrick a bad finisher at the rim? Or is he just not getting the calls?

5/16 looks terrible in the box score, except a lot of those shots were at close range. He blew by the Cavs’ guards most of the time, but just couldn’t convert on some layups. It seems like a common theme for Rose.

from Vinny on the sidelines when speaking to Derrick is “Derrick, ATTACK

I just don’t think it’s in Derrick’s nature to attack like that, unless it’s the fourth quarter. But with this team, waiting that long is too late. We’re not talented enough for him to coast until then, cause the 4th quarter will have turned to garbage time.

Thought I'd pass along a tidbit from watching parts of the Bucks game last night

During a timeout, they cut to a pregame conversation that one of their local sideline reporters had with assistant coach Kelvin Sampson. Sampson was talking about Jenning’s performance so far and he mentioned something startling (in comparison to what I think happens with the Bulls). He said that AFTER EVERY GAME, Skiles goes over different plays or moments in the game with Jennings to discuss things he did or didn’t read correctly.

Granted, Skiles is an experienced coach and played point guard in the NBA, so its not like the Bulls would have considered such a structure for Rose, but I digress.

it’s just to what extent that differs. Either way I don’t think is happening here in the Bulls too.

again coaching…it was so annoying how the bulls would get a good defensive rebound or a steal and rose would begin to push the ball, but one or two cavs would have caught up and he would just pull back cuz there was no one to pass to…..to me it was like just keep going, pick up the offensive, it doesnt matter, keep going towards the rim…things will happen afterwards…

ive come to teh conclusion the problem isnt rose being aggressive, the problem is rose not knowing how to use his god givent talents to attack…his idea of being aggressive has become take more jumpshots…….again…coaching…

Anyone who tells me again that Rose is shooting mid-range jumpers....

…to set up the drive will be ignored.

At some point in the 2nd quarter, he came from the right side over a pick at the top of the key and was wide open on the left side. The closest guy in front of him was 15 ft away, by the rim. The closest guy at all was probably 5 ft away—a chasm in half-court NBA land. Rose pulls up about 2 ft inside the 3 pt line. CLANK!!!

This team has screwed Rose up. He’ll be the 3rd player I’ll be happy to see go somewhere else just to see if he gets good coaching. I just wonder if he’s even smart enough to even know he’s getting bad coaching.

but i fear the worst for his development..the habits you pick up in the first 3 years in the nba pretty much make or break you, you can get better of course, but whatever your playing style is most likely wont change…

Rose is in his second year and what i really hoped he would start doing this year is attacking the basket more, i thought the team would sort of focus around him more, maybe not completely, but just more. I think with roses age and his superior athleticism he will have alot of time to learn and grow, but i fear that any ripples now might affect his over-all production…

So maybe instead of being a top 5 pg he just becomes devin harris, its not bad, but it will annoy me to wonder how much better he could be….

KC
You think the Bulls would be better off trading Luol Deng and Kirk Hinrich for Tracy McGrady? He is in a contract year and would play very well if proven to be healthy. Bulls let him walk during the summer and have enough cap space for two max players, which no other team can sell when recruiting. — Ryan, Los Angeles

And if you don’t get those two max players you’ve traded your best perimeter defender and second-best all-around player for nothing. No thanks.

Actually it’s genius KC.

We have to find a way to dump Hinrich. Ugh.

1. Cut a hole in a box
2. Put your Kirk in that box
3. Make some team open that box

I want whole sale change.

Noah and Rose are the only players I want back here. I don’t understand the love for either Hinrich or Deng they can put nice numbers but when the game is on the line their balls shrink. Plus their contracts are making it hard for the Bulls to make other moves. If the organization would wake the fuck up they would realize that maybe there would be hope for the future.

What would be wrong with bring in someone like Rudy Gay and Joe Johnson?Plus this whole thing was about build the team to fit Rose. They seem to have scrapped that idea.

Rudy Gay is overrated, but I agree with your general point that they need to make big time

changes. The only players definitely worth keeping long-term are Rose and Noah. If you can sell off the other pieces for better fits with them, then you do it.

This, of course, assumes the Bulls are into long-term planning, but it seems they are more concerned with year-to-year “plans” that keep them hovering around .500, keep costs down, and keep JR’s pockets lined.

yeah Rudy Gay was probably a bad example.

But who am I kidding they love Deng, hence the 72 million.

that's all well and good, but he's not been all that productive as a pro thus far.

he’s solid, don’t get me wrong, but he’s not the star many make him out to be.

I hope he means that Deng is second to Noah.

They’re both better than Rose right now.

In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).

Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.
