Open Game Thread #27: Bulls at New York Knicks

Chicago Bulls at New York Knicks, Dec 22, 2009 6:30 PM CST

Maybe if they get creamed, VDN is fired. I still very much doubt it though. I actually believe that the Bulls purposely wouldn't fire him on Christmas Eve just to avoid that becoming even more of a meme.

He lived up to his potential!

man Larry Hughes is the best shooting guard in the West! Larry Legend’s average shot percentage this year is 47% and he scores 15 points a game. D’Antoni was putting him on the bench early on but he realized that for Larry to shine he had to ench Nate Robinson, who’s basically the Knick’s version of Rom Mercer. Larry Hughes averaged 20 points a game but the system that the New York Knockerbockers run requires Larry to share the ball instead of shoot, something he’s done better than all of their other guards [he had a game with 11 assists, and his A/TO ratio is over 3!!!!!!]. Maybe Larry Lgend’s best position actually is Point Guard, but we never got a chance to figure out here in chicago because of Vinny del Negro’s handling of him, with the repeated benchings while Larry Hughes was the best 2-guard on our team, with the size and shot to be a star in this league. Larry also had a really hard childhood – those tear tattoos on his face are for his brother, who’s dead. He does great things off the court too, and has started a charity thing. If you look it up on Google you’ll see it. Larry Hughes is Better than Derrick Rose and could carry the bulls to a Championship if he was here now, but we traded him for Jerome James and Tim Thomas, which was just a waste of good yound talent that we sorely need now! Our 10-16 record would be much better if we had more players on this team who were as good as Larry Hughes and all you haters need to shut up.

So Larry Hughes is offended by young Derrick's remarks, eh?

Normally I don’t worry about such things, but after last night I’m wondering if he’ll totally go off on them. It’s not like he thinks fondly of the Bulls anyway.

comes from last year’s playoffs, and they have the idea that he plays like that in every game, never mind the mediocre numbers.

Where does your knowledge of Rose come from?

Everyone watches the same games you do, but unlike you, they don’t have inflated expectations of him that they expct him to live up to RIGHT NOW, after 1 yr of college, with the most unexperienced coach in pro basketball.

Nitpick his flaws all you want, ballers and fans know what he is. Peace.

You can defend him all you want and judge him like other young players,

but I for one am going to judge him as an individual. Sure, his coach sucks, but that doesn’t excuse him for not really changing his game at all in the off-season. He still just has an ok jump shot, is far less than stellar defensively and is lazy with the basketball.
The kid is a number one pick, the reigning rookie of the year and among the most physically gifted point guards to ever enter the league. Forgive me for thinking he should be better than he is at this point.

He does his job well, he's just not a superstar yet...

as a PG he doesn’t look to score first. However, you had a hard time saying he wasn’t a star after the game against Atlanta and the first half he put up against Sacramento.

Im not going to expect the world from him when he has such inept players around him. This offensive scheme is just horrible.

How many times do they need to comment about not coming out flat, before that translates to the game?

lets hi-jack this a little and discuss who really does have more talent to attract free agents

Galinari is better than anything else we have (and that may also unclude rose)

Duhon is was and always will be an ideal solid Derrick Fisher type next to a superstar.

Lee better than anything we have at the 4 and 5.

chandler also better than just about anything we have and that may also include Rose.

meanwhile deng broke somethign again…and still doesnt shoot 3’s. and Rose has some serious issues making people guard him on th eperimeter to allow a Wade or Lebron to operate.

OOOOh….nice play by JJ

some pretty strong shit me thinks

Gali would be good on the Bulls, we need a Kukoc type player badly.

by Playboy_Bull on Dec 22, 2009 7:05 PM CST up reply actions

he shoots 3's like ray allen reggie miller and ben Gordon

and since he didnt paly at all last year….it like his rookie year.

And he’s nearly 7 foot tall. No one will ever ever be able to guard that. he will always get that shot.

he brought the ball up at least 7 times already this game alone. how many 7 footers can do that?

with his type of shooting, pretty soon he will master the pump fake…and make a living shooting free throws and 3’s.

what does Rose do so great…besides the pull up jumper from his chest at 15 feet?

by SD20 on Dec 22, 2009 7:07 PM CST up reply actions

ill take a 7 footer that shoots 43% from the arc over a player like Rose anyday.

If rose were more creative like paul…and played defense like Wade thsi would even be a figment of my imagination.

But extrememly suspect defense can only be made up by Steve nash like creativity and shooting on offense. and even then you cant win with it. Rose will never be as good as nash on offense and is possibly a worse defender.

In fact…Rose is kinda a young larry hughes on offense but a little better finisher in the paint…neither draw contact often.

by SD20 on Dec 22, 2009 7:21 PM CST up reply actions

lmao

Kill yourself for making that dumbass comment. Rose willl be better than Nash and he will be just as good as Paul. He’s averaging 25 these last three games. Were loosing because dumbass coaching period.

Galinari isn't better than Rose, Lee can't touch Tyrus, Chandler is o.k

by Mr Rhythm on Dec 22, 2009 7:04 PM CST up reply actions

Lee sucks.

You know, Lee’s one of those players … you think he’s good, and then you watch a game, and he just doesn’t play defense. He’s like Zack Randolph, only less talented, and not evil.

tyrus...

tyrus is an extrememly flawed bball player…does nothing great…his best thing…weak side cock blocking more often results in not being in th eright position or goal tending.

by SD20 on Dec 22, 2009 7:22 PM CST up reply actions

What does David Lee do great?

I mean, really.
At this point, both are marginal starters. Lee refuses to defend the rim against anybody, but he can rebound the ball. As long as he gives people open layups first.
There’s a couple reasons why Lee didn’t get a large contract last offseason.

I support the Tornado Release ... and Young Bucks.

by Prevenge on Dec 22, 2009 7:25 PM CST up reply actions

Uh...

Galinari is a good player but he’s def not better than Rose. Do we just get caught up in the Bulls losing that we devalue what we have?

Deng is a good sidekick but asking him to shoulder the load is a disaster waiting to happen.

Lee and Noah are a wash.

James Johnson is showing signs

but yeah Galo and Chandler are not better than Rose, they have better perimeter games but Rose’s is coming along.

Big improvement over last night's 4th quarter

They made more shots, scored more points, only have a 10 point quarter deficit, and only turned the ball over 5 times.

So I was looking at Truehoop:

They had a link to a blog talking about the last game:
http://www.cowbellkingdom.com/?p=871
“One final thought on this game and it’s about Westphal. It’s amazing what having a real coach will do for the growth of a young team. We’re now about 1/3 of the way through this season and the team looks night and day compared to last year’s debacle. A lot has to do with the acquisitions Petrie made this off-season but even more has to do with what Westphal does for this team. Here’s what Evans said after the game:

"One thing I like about Coach Westphal, he’s a great coach. At halftime he didn’t come in and curse us out like we were little kids. He talked to us, we weren’t playing our best basketball, keep fighting. We went out and did that. I think that kept our confidence up instead of just coming in and yelling at everybody.""

Yay growth!

I support the Tornado Release ... and Young Bucks.

We have the quietest starting 5 in the league

Noah is the only one who plays with enthusiasm, even his energy level is down. Tyrus is gonna help but then we have to figure, how will Vinny use him.

for some reason i found myself watchin hinrich there to end the half

he was just watching everything whiz past him, including turning his back on the shooter to watch the shot go in. once he realized the shot hadn’t gone up yet he had to look back at the dude as if to say, “hey, you gonna take that open 3 or what?” i wish a player would’ve beaned it off the back of his head

Box score fun

We lead in 2 columns – shots attempted and turnovers.

The starters are shooting 25.0% with 3 assists and 5 TOs. 18 points total.
Per 36 (assuming the in-game minutes are correct), that would be an average of 8.9 points and 1.5 assists.

The bench is shooting 50.0% for 13 points.

Fish and Brad are scoreless in a combined 19 minutes. Besides missed shots, their only other collective recorded stat is a Salmons TO.

Brief news bit....I was checking out a article on CBSsports.com written by Ken Berger

In this article, “Sorry, Vinny: you don’t survive this” their is a suggestion that the GM Paxson should take over as coach for Vinny, but it is stated Paxson won’t take the job because he has a “frayed” relationship with certain players. Who are the players you all think Paxson could possibly have beef with? I say it’s Tyrus of course. This is the article for any who like to read.

I want to make a bold statement right now..

Kert has taken Salmons spot and may not lose it if he continues to play well. TT will be back Saturday. One of the Bulls best lineups last year included Kert, TT, Rose and Noah. If TT stays for the rest of the year, and if Kurt stays the starter, we will go on a nice run with the best lineups getting starter minutes, and we will be in the playoffs!

How will the team get more assists with Hinrich if nobody make shots?

by bull83 on Dec 22, 2009 8:12 PM CST up reply actions

Kert, TT, Noah, Rose was one of our best lineups last year.

If you watch Kurt and TT together they have good chemistry. Kurt penetrates and feeds TT to finish. Kert can hit jumpers, Rose is coming on, Noah is hitting boards, and Deng is getting buckets. These easy shots teams are getting will stop, and we will run. TT makes a huge difference when he gets minutes.
