Trading for TMAC could help Bulls future.

Ok we have seen everything we need to know about the Chicago Bulls, we have two players. Everything else is dust in the wind. This has been talked about at nausea I know but trading for TMAC is perfect for the Chicago Bulls.

He's a rental player now and then becomes a free agent after this season. The Knicks have been rumored to be trying to get him from Houston. Why? Because that would give them more cap space to sign two max players.

This is freaking gold!

I'm sorry if this sounds redundant but how much more do you need to know about Salmons, Deng and Hinrich? They are just too inconsistent and the way Salmons is playing who knows if he opts out.

So why not try and package some of these bad contracts for TMAC?

It's fire sale time! The Bulls future is now! This would be huge! Players want money and a core of Noah and Rose is a great base. Maybe this even gives the Bulls a chance to bring back Tyrus Thomas

The Rockets appear keen to rid themselves of McGrady (and his constant drama), which could open the door for a deal. New York would likely package a few expiring contracts, which could include guys like Eddy Curry, Chris Duhon, Al Harrington or Larry Hughes.

I'm with you

I’m all for a TMac trade. The question is… do we have the pieces to do it? I think something like Salmons, Tyrus and Brad Miller (plus a protected pick or something) could possibly get it done — but that doesn’t really do much for us as far as opening up more cap room next summer. If you exchanged Luol Deng for Brad Miller then that would work — but is Houston going to want Deng’s contract aftey they just signed Ariza? Ok, then maybe Hinrich, but then we’re going to have to throw somebody else in because the salaries won’t match.

Hinrich + Deng for Mcgrady? That would be idea — but I’m not sure Houston’s ready to take on that much salary when they’ve got Brooks and Ariza at PG and SF respectively. They could play Hinrich at SG and go small with Deng at PF, but now they’re really pressing to make this trade work. I’m assuming they could find something better out there (from NY most likely).

Thats a great question. Houston is rumored to be desperate though.

I’ve read they would take back long term contracts. Maybe they could slide Ariza to the two man and play Deng at the three? I think the Bulls need to at least entertain the phone call.

If you can get them to take Hinrich and Deng and maybe an expiring contract like James or Tyrus who knows. God I get so happy to think about that. There could be several combinations.

Its a win for the Bulls.

Whats the worst that could happen? You get T-Mac and offload salary for next year. And what if he recovers and becomes a good go to guy like he was before. Bonus! Then you could resign him for f**k all and still be able to sign a big free agent. Yee haa! Or sign and trade for a PF that can you know ………………….. “score points and rebound the ball”

I think tmac

is an upgrade at the bulls 2 at this point. He hit a three in his season debut!

Houston could use Miller & Salmons. Not too sure where Deng or Hinrich would fit for them though. They are paying TMac to sit, aren’t they. So I’d think the Bulls could get him without giving up too many assets. The more they can hold on to, the more they have to play/move for ANOTHER expiring.

by kingles on Dec 15, 2009 11:34 PM CST reply actions

Since we're getting crazy

TMac, Cook, Lowry
for
Miller, Hinrich, James (+ pick if needed)

To get completely fanciful, how about Deng+Salmons to the Jazz for Boozer+CJ Miles?

1- Rose, Lowry, Hunter
2- Tmac, Miles, Pargo
3- Tyrus, Miles, JJ
4- Boozer, Tyrus, Gibson
5- Noah, Cook, Gray

Tyrus has always considered himself a 3, but with Boozer and TMac in the fold, a good and creative coach could make a lot of hay with this sort of lineup. Run the pick and roll game with Rose and Boozer or TMac. Let TMac ISO. Let miles, who’s a decent shooter, create some space. Let Tyrus Attack!! and get to the line.

Of course, we’d never do this and we don’t have a creative, good coach.

Now THAT'S an idea

Let’s package this and send it to GarPaxDorf right away.

This is the type of marvick thinking this organization has lacked for years

even with the terrible state of the Bulls organization it still seems as if GarPax together don’t have guts big enough for anything…

Why does Houston do this trade?

Their GM is very methodical in how he builds a team. He is not going to just take anyone to unload McGrady. And why would he? McGrady is on an expiring contract. Sure he had a little drama with the knee and starting, but the Rockets handled it like a professional organization. They didn’t give in to the diva. The Rockets will only trade McGrady if they can get someone who fits in for their long term plan. McGrady is expiring. They need to resign Scola and Landry. They don’t want our garbage. They’ll continue to find bargains in the FA market to pair with a healthy Yao next year. I’m sure the only person they would want on our team is Noah. I hear McGrady for Jermain O’Neal. Which makes more sense because they are both expiring. I could see the Rockets weasel a 1st rounder out of the Heat as well.

Read Hoops hype Rumors

A source close to the Rockets said that they will unload T-Mac and likley destinations are New York, Miami or Chicago.

by Scal4theallstargame on Dec 16, 2009 5:14 PM CST up reply actions

That's why they are called Rumors

They tend to not be true. Ever notice how all the talked about trades rarely if ever actually happen. How many times was Pau Gasol rumored to be a Bull? Then that Kwame Brown trade came out of nowhere. Everyone thought Steve Jax was rumored to be with the Cavs for Wally and West, and then Charlotte came out of nowhere with the trade. Just because the Bulls are rumored to be in the discussions with the Rockets doesn’t mean the Rockets are interested in what we have. I don’t think the Bulls are going to give up Luol Deng for Tracy McGrady. And that’s probably what it is going to take. They could move Ariza to the two.

by paxdorf on Dec 17, 2009 4:05 PM CST up reply actions

Good point

But T-Mac will probably be on the trading block this season and the Bulls have a lot of pieces that are attractive to the Rockets.

Miller and James + a pick or a prospect for McGrady sounds fair.

Houston is losing him anyways and nobody knows how good or bad McGrady will be. Who is going to really give up 2-3 solid players plus expiring contracts and a 1st rounder for an expiring contract?

Now, if Houston wants to take on somebody like Deng and his contract, then they could get Miller + Deng and maybe a throw in or a pick, but you can’t give away over half McGrady’s salary in expirings and throw in some solid players and picks, that’s totally lopsided. You’re getting back an injured expiring contract, at best he does well for half a season then chases the money. At worst he can’t really play and you have 20+ mil in expiring (we’d already have 2/3 to 3/4 that if we didn’t make the trade), so at worst we add like 6m expiring and give up some talent or a pick.

TT + Miller + James for McGrady or Deng + Miller. Maybe an option to swap picks in next few years, or unprotected future 1st rounder could be thrown in.

Miller + Hinrich + Taj or Johnson for McGrady (maybe if they have a fill in player to make roster spots more equal).

I was thinking more like that, if Houston really wants to trade McGrady, otherwise we’re getting ripped off.

I Agree we should

trade for McGrady we have nothing to lose. But knowing the Orgs inability to make any moves whatsoever of importance, it likely will not happen. We need offense if nothing other than to help us endure watching the Bulls for an entire game.

inability to make any moves whatsoever of importance

Noc/Gooden/Simmons/Ruffin for Miller/Salmons was not important?
Hughes cancerous existence for insurance money was not important?

Miller + Salmons + James

for TMAC/ Dorsey

he’s back, he’s been fixed by Grover and he’s ready to compete again. I hear his contract is also 80 percent insured now because he missed so many games in a row. I would do this deal in a second. We know what Salmons is, a joke. We would def miss BM but life goes on. Time for AG to earn that money… Plus Salmons would likely opt out in H-Town and B miller is expiring. Win win for the Rockets. The Bulls get a great former All Star rental in a contract year with a lot to prove and a chip on his shoulder. He would come in, start, play with some pretty athletic parts here. This would also give us a glimpse into the future if we were to sign a D Wade or joe johnson in the offseason.

Salmons/Miller(expiring) and Hinrich and a pick for McGrady.. That should work, it gives Houston an expiring and two sometimes decent players.

We need to make this trade happen. An injured Mcgrady is still 10x better than Salmons. Plus 21 MILLION off the books and removing the threat of Salmons opting in and getting rid of Kirk’s contract would be a godsend.

by C Smoove on Dec 17, 2009 1:04 PM CST reply actions

Top 5 protected pick

We need something other than TMac on our side of the ledger.

I would do it. Would TMAC feel like going all-out for the Bulls. Needs a new contract, right. And he won’t be a cancer in the locker room?

by Trey23 on Dec 17, 2009 2:54 PM CST up reply actions

And you think that means the Bulls are in?

John Hollinger (3:35 PM)

Rockets are NOT going to take back money in a McGrady deal; to get his expiring contract would require surrendering a real basketball player. At this point nobody is prepared to do that, but as the year wears on and certain disappointing teams look to cut salary (coughWashingtoncough) that situation may change.
