Open Game Thread #23: Bulls vs. L.A. Lakers

Not surprising that with fan discontent there isn't exactly a line forming to do game previews :-/

out off all the games
i just wanna win this one..or atleast not get blown out
What happened to the Da Bulls?
Will they ever change the starting lineup intro?
It could use an update. It would also look better with better players.
I was going to volunteer for the preview
But I’m stuck in the office grading papers and exams, with final grades due at midnight tonight. I figured doing a Bulls’ preview wasn’t worth risking my job. With break officially here starting at 12:01 am, I’ll be better about picking some up.
Just waiting on some offense....
we need more Rose off-the-ball stuff
he’s so quick and such a good finisher that he should get 8-10 easy layups a night just from losing his man
Preview not very kind to the Bulls

We miss you, Ben Gordon!
It is kind of a funny question
Considering it’s effective for us
And that it’s one of the only two words Vinny knows during game/TO situations.
Just waiting on some offense....
hahaha
the biggest problem has been once the numbers aren’t there, and they’re forced to run halfcourt stuff, everybody just stand around. they don’t force anybody on the defense to exert themselves

Everyone going to the basket
Deng takes a 22 footer?
oh come on
kobe doesn’t need calls like that
kirk should go back to the bench now so his fg% is decent for at least one game
by darksmokepuncher on Dec 15, 2009 7:20 PM CST reply actions
oh goddamit
this is the last thing we need right now

When will tyrus comeback? I was kinda hoping he'd play this game
If I think of nothing, am I thinking?
Didn't they say it's like another week before he practices with the team?
Just waiting on some offense....
Jo and his blocks are making me a happy fantasy owner right now
I’m going to hold onto that, and ignore the actual catastrophe going on.
Just waiting on some offense....
OH if Rose is out for any period of time...
they will suck even more…guaranteed lottery team then
I'd like to volunteer to provide an in-depth prediction. Here goes.
Laker’s blow out Bulls 119-70.
Bulls brass gives full endorsement after the game to Vinny saying the Bulls showed a lot of heart by coming back in the 4th quarter, closing a 66 point deficit to less than 50 thanks to some great shooting by Pargo and Gray, Vinny said he was proud that they didn’t quit saying he feels he’s finally getting thru to them on what he expects…..hustle, sharing, defense, shooting, dribbling, passing, rebounding and above all, being aggressive and running. Meanwhile thousands of fans could be seen running for the exits at the end of the 3rd quarter.
If you can't answer a man's arguments, all is not lost. You can still call him vile names.
Elbert Hubbard

To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.
You could leave out the time he sat with the injury
Hard to make a 3 when you don’t get on the court
Just waiting on some offense....
that's kinda my point...
the Bulls only have 1 legit 3-point shooter and this was the first time he’s been able to splash one in almost a month
by Daniel Satan on Dec 15, 2009 7:33 PM CST up reply actions
jesus.....kobe is unstoppable
sorry announcers, I don’t think Kirk is going to keep pace
by darksmokepuncher on Dec 15, 2009 7:29 PM CST reply actions
Quite honestly, you're not going to be able to stop Kob'e scoring
But you have to pressure him on the offensive side. Maybe tire him out having him chase through screens
by RogersPark Kris on Dec 15, 2009 7:30 PM CST reply actions
I'll give kirk credit
he’s hounding the shit out of kobe
these refs aren’t going to let him get away with it forever though
by darksmokepuncher on Dec 15, 2009 7:33 PM CST reply actions
If kobe does score 100
The idiot laker fans will still say that he is better than MJ.I HATE the lakers
MJ never faced a defense
as inept as ours. And Kobe will never play defense marginally close to as well Michael could.
by NerdVernacular on Dec 15, 2009 7:35 PM CST up reply actions
Defense is 50% of your game
That’s why I don’t think Wayne Gretzky was even a top 10 hockey player. He didn’t play defense. At all.
by NerdVernacular on Dec 15, 2009 7:36 PM CST up reply actions
How is kobe in the all NBA defense team I have no idea.
Considering that the NBA changed the rules to help the offense, seriously there are barely any lockdown defenders anymore
Exactly
Today’s offensive stars would get a beating if they played in previous eras.
by NerdVernacular on Dec 15, 2009 7:39 PM CST up reply actions
i hate James's game,
but you guys are crazy if you think he’d take a beating in previous areas. yes, he’d be less effective cuz he wouldn’t get all the fouls/FTs, but we’re talking about a dude who’s as big as Karl Malone and as fast as Scottie Pippen… he’d hold his own physically without a doubt.
by Daniel Satan on Dec 15, 2009 7:43 PM CST up reply actions
Other than passing
He has no real skill,He never uses his body to post up.And his defense is overrated. And he is an inconsistent shooter. If he went up against the bad boys whe would be dead since he waits for the refs to call the fouls.
he is an elite force
driving to the basket…
Never die easy. Why run out of bounds and die easy? Make that Linebacker pay. It carries into all facets of your life. It's okay to lose, to die, but don't die without trying, without giving it your best.- Walter Payton
i agree 100%, Moore
somehow the media keeps comparing him to Jordan, but to this point in his career, I think a better comparison is Shaq. physical freaks who dominated against all compeition, but never due to their skill-sets. yea, Lebron, like Shaq, will probably get his rings… but also like Shaq, he’s been disappointing through the early part of his career IMO
by Daniel Satan on Dec 15, 2009 7:52 PM CST up reply actions
agreed
but he might not react to the more physical game very well. he’d still be able to play though, and well.

At a minimum, I'd enjoy watching him get put on his ass when he's being an ass
Just waiting on some offense....
i'd pay to see that
unfortunately, he’s the NBA’s most protected commodity, and if any player (Noah, for instance) did that they’d likely be suspended 5 games.
by Daniel Satan on Dec 15, 2009 7:46 PM CST up reply actions
He's only on pace for 80
And that would be if he played every minute of the game and kept shooting 67%.
Just waiting on some offense....
Yeah, I don't think there's any chance of it happening..
but it would be hilarious.

But guys – we just scored 31 in a quarter, and that’s with John and Derrick playing short minutes for various reasons, and against a normally decent Lakers team.

still, I have to say
without Derrick for half of the first quarter and all (so far) of the second, Kirk and co. have played with something resembling effort, which is more than I can say for most of the recent games…

Maybe not a turtle…something though
I'm going to assume they figure Derrick can't hurt himself further by playing
And hope they are right – I’m not sure this is a game worth risking it. Even if we are currently hanging close and I’m trying to be an optimist today.
Just waiting on some offense....
Derrick...just keep the ball
Screw the rest of them
this reminds me...
exactly of the Celtics game
derrick missed that pass to the cutting noah...
noah was waving for it frantically…
for the first time this season, i just saw Rose call for the ball
maybe Vinny’s comments actually touched base with him and he’s puttin his foot down?
I saw him call for the ball Vs the Nets
When Salmons blew him off and took the most retarded shot of all time
he was showing the ready position, but that's not necessarily callin for the ball
in this instance, he waived his arm high above his head to get attention

That’s one he’ll learn to at least get fouled on

He won't get the foul call because he hasn't learned yet how to look like he got fouled
Not because of some sort of bias
the reason rose doesn't get calls is because he doesn't ever communicate with the refs
all the other stars know the refs on a personal level… they joke around with em, and explain their point of view on calls they disagree with. I doubt Rose even knows any of their names
