Heh... only a couple days ago he posted "Don't overreact; It's the injuries and the schedule"

I had a go at him in the comments and he answered back. I think, in a nutshell, the biggest failure of the Bulls this year isn’t even the one we’re seeing on the court. That’s a partial failure, because we need to look good to attract FAs, but what really kills me is we’re stinking things up while not even ensuring we actually get that max cap space.

As I see it, we have two goals for this year, and they’re a little bit in tension:
1. Cement our ability to offer the max
2. Be competitive enough to actually attract a FA we’d like to offer the max to.

So far, we’re failing miserably on both fronts, and it blows my mind that guys like Doug (and it’s not just him… for example, you’ve got Bulls Org loyalists on message boards saying similar stuff) are so cavalier about the fact that we’ve made all of these moves to get cap space but we’ve not actually sealed the deal on it.

I like Doug

but he comes off as the proverbial “dumb optimist” in that exchange. “No management team is perfect.” We aren’t talking about taking a chance on a 2nd round pick!?! We are talking about the management team fully executing the plan they put into place. If they can’t execute their own ideas that isn’t bad luck, that is severe incompetence. There only 30 NBA front offices, its an elite position and paid accordingly. This isn’t McDonald’s. There are no bonuses for good effort.

I miss the parts of the Bulls Beat podcast

where he’s go into some bad Bulls news, then go “oh well, that’s life”, as if the audience needed added perspective that this is only a basketball team :)
