Around SBN: Phil Mickelson Outshines Tiger Woods

Something positive for the Ty fans - he has the second highest Roland Rating of the team right now, barely trailing Brad.

(Of course, that probably just makes it all the worse that he's out now, right?)

woops, I misread the chart. TT's raw +/- is pretty meh. +.2

1. Cut a hole in a box
2. Put your Kirk in that box
3. Make some team open that box

His on/off net is +12, and Taj's is 0.

In honor of the dearly departed, I declare July PB&J month - everyone raise a sandwich to the memory of Ben!

Couple things stick out to me

1) Obviously, having 72% of our shots be jumpshots is astronomical. Considering we’re hitting them at a .380 eFG% it makes me want to punch whoever designs plays.

2) But the weirder issue is this eFG% by shot clock. 37% of our attempts come in the first 10 seconds of the shotclock, and our eFG% on those shots is 40.9%. That’s INSANE. Since fast break points are always in the first 10 seconds, that eFG% is skewed up to around 55-60% for most teams, and then falls off from there as the shotclock winds down.

But the Bulls, somehow, are settling for inefficient shots in the first 10 seconds of the clock. “16 seconds left on the shotclock, and all we’ve got is an 18ft jumper? Logic would say reset the offense to try for a higher percentage shot, but… Fuck it, we’re shooting!! LETS RUN!!”

i noticed against the cavs

in particular, the number of ridiculous early in the shot clock rushed jumpers we took..

I trust you have heard Vinny on the sidelines coaching...

I think Vinny missed the part in Phoenix where they either run to the 3 point line

or dive to the basket for a layup or dunk. He seems to think that simply getting lots of shots up (of any type) is a good thing, when it’s clearly not.

Nearly all the guys are way up for jump shots compared to inside shots so far this season

John, last season 73% were jumpers, this season 83%.
Derrick – 60% last year, 69% this.
Lu is up from 66% to 76%.
Tyrus – 55% to 63%.
Brad – 54% to 69%.
Even Jo, 6% to 32%.

Kirk’s the only guy who’s dropped in percentage of jump shots – but (1) that’s only from 89% to 85%, and (2) we kind of need him, of all people, to be actually be taking more 3s (assuming he can start hitting at a better rate, of course).

Holy crap that's bad. Especially since most of those jumpers are 2pters.

With Derrick I can see it, because he’s injured, so he’s driving less frequently, but Tyrus, Lu, Brad, and Joakim don’t need to shooting even more jumpers. Unless it’s a corner 3 for Brad or Lu.

Noah is a shooting beast.

Like a phelddagrif.

I support the Tornado Release ... and Young Bucks.

Obviously these are small samples...

but i love how switching taj for tyrus results in worse stats across the board:

Rose-Salmons-Deng-Thomas-Noah

  • eFG: .375
  • eFGA: .484
  • FTA: +10
  • Close: 26%
  • dClose: 33%
  • Reb: 57.5%
  • T/O: +4%

Rose-Salmons-Deng-Gibson-Noah

  • eFG: .353
  • eFGA: .447
  • FTA: -6
  • Close: 12%
  • dClose: 45%
  • Reb: 47.5%
  • T/O: -8%

I’m not looking forward to the next 4-6 weeks.

Wow...

The difference in their 48 min. PERs is even more telling:

Tyrus is at a respectable 18.5 and holding his man to an incredible 8.3(!!!!) while playing 34% of the teams minutes at PF. (+10.2 net)

Taj is an abysmal 10.9 and the opposing power forward is at 21.0 while also playing 34% of the teams PF minutes. (-10.1 net)

That’s a 20.2 swing in PER at the power forward spot. Pretty huge.

Also, I want to make it clear that I think Taj is playing pretty will for a non-lottery rookie, but all this Taj vs. Tyrus nonsense needs to stop.
