Open Game Thread #15: Bulls at Milwaukee Bucks
Chicago Bulls at Milwaukee Bucks, Nov 30, 2009 7:00 PM CST
If nobody signs up for a game preview, you won't get a game preview. That's not mean to be a threat, just setting expectations...

Well hes a gent so I know he has it imprinted in his brain to not hit his wife.
I’m not sure if the other golf greats would of handled the situation much better
I'd have told her like this "Hey baby, you gonna believe me or your lying eyes?"
Then I’d flex the chest muscles, case closed!
Tiger maybe the most athletic and mentally stable golfer but he is like a boy scout.
Hmmmm well if she got a club….I haven’t heard any new news thats concrete but if that was the case I’d have been gone too. And in those situations you could have photographic evidence you didn’t do anything and it wouldn’t matter to the wife.
Not trying to be sarcastic or whatever
just wondering why you dont do the game previews? Busy? or something?
Thanks for clarifying!

Still a bit surprising
I figured there’d be enough Chicago fans to help out.

even terrible seats are up in price quite a bit
that being said, you can still just walk down to the lower seats and no one cares

I'm not surprised.
I went to Bucks v. Nuggets a few weeks back b/c my gf got free tickets. the price listed on them was $30 and they were literally the worst seats in the building.
like I said though, the attendents don’t usually say anything if you just walk down to the better seats

passing the ball is infinitely more difficult when the spacing is off. the passing lanes become much
easier for the defense to play. Interior passing is difficult for this reason. Add to that Taj’s awful hands and it’s a wonder the Bulls can do anything on offense.

New game, same story.
Awful offense, not so good defense. Neil doesn’t seem to have learned that the Bulls don’t hit shots for a full 28 minutes. Sure, we look good when Miller’s jumper drops, but hell, we all know it’s not gonna keep dropping. This team is crap.
Derrick can keep saying he’s going to be aggressive; it’s menaingless. It’s like the boy who cried wolf with him, he keeps saying he’s gonna do something, but he hasn’t done shit. I’m gonna watch House.
Metal sharpens metal.
And this guy right here understands and knows what leadership is all about: The coach, the hall of famer......... Dick Butka! George Ryan

Stupid Vinny doesn’t coach to his team’s strength which is his problem!
its pretty simple.
We can’t win if derrick doesn’t score. Deng was good, salmons was good. And yet were being beat by the frakking bucks who are pretty much sans jennings.
This game has blow out written all over it. When brandon gets it going – g’nite.
I feel bad ragging on derrick. Truly – he seems nice enough. But the young man has just not played with passion this year. Ankle or no. Its painful to watch. But its good to have somewhere to commiserate. :)

is coming. I’m not saying it’s even necessarily the right decision – in fact, it’s only the right decision if they think they can find someone markedly better and are willing to pay him what he deserves.

I wasn't talking about you particularly, just the general Vinny hate on here
The front office is to blame for all this. I mean they even got gifted the number one pick for fuck’s sake

by Juiceboxjerry on Nov 30, 2009 8:41 PM CST up reply actions
Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous. I said it from the beginning that if they were going to make the Rose
pick and remain committed to their no luxury tax stance, they needed to dump Hinrich for expirings on draft night and resign Gordon. They failed to do that and the team is suffering for it. Oh, they also totally whiffed on this year’s draft. Which is especially appalling to me because both of the guys I was really high on (Blair especially) have been pretty great to start the year. If I can figure this stuff out more often than the Bulls front office, isn’t there a problem?

However, independent of the front office's fuckery, the Vinny hate is pretty justified
his offense is total garbage (isos and high pick and rolls are basically the totality of his playbook) and the defense to start the season appears to have been a mirage.

its so hard watching Deng/Salmons play the same role. I hate seeing Salmons iso plays and then DRose irritates me because he never tries to force his will until the 2nd half.

No. He's not.

I’m all for dumping Kirk, but it’s mostly cause he sucks and is overpaid more than trying to get more money to sign Tyrus. Priority 1 is having enough money to sign a max FA, dumping Kirk helps ensure that. Ideally I’d like to dump Kirk and Salmons for expirings, because they both suck.

Rose got doubled and because Vinny left in the ancient Lindsey the Bucks could double
Derrick with impunity. Derrick made the “right” play, but it wasn’t a particularly high percentage look (a Hunter runner). It wasn’t a matter of guts, it was a matter of playing 4 on 5 with Lindsey out there and the resulting clusterfuck that happened for Rose’s drive to the bucket. This is why Vinny needs to go. The org has boned him over with short-sighted and cheap moves, but there are still better options than a gassed Lindsey Hunter in the clutch. The dude isn’t even an NBA player at this point.

He took the ball, drove the lane, and dished to a WIDEOPEN teammate. What is wrong or not bigtime about that?
Because the wide open teammate was Brad Miller and the shot was the last one of the game!

Find it as a indictment of the organization
He’s our PG.OK. He isn’t Kobe or Lebron or Wade. He’s Derrick Rose our Point Guard. So part of his game by nature is to facilitate. It is the responsibility of management to put those pieces around him. Last year he had one of those pieces for that situation. This year he doesn’t. It’s not his job to be scoring on 3-on1 situations to win games when he hasn’t even done it yet.

Jennings has been better as a rookie than Derrick was last year. That's not meant to be
an indication of how good they play head to head, it’s an aggregate statement about how they play over the course of all the games. That’s like saying that because Deron Williams matches up well with Chris Paul that DWill is better than Chris Paul which is so ridiculous that it’s not even worth debating.

true, but with Jennings all you can go on is what you've seen thus far
he’s been better than Derrick so far, but there’s plenty of chance that he tails off and the beginning of the season is just a hot streak. It’s certainly possible and the numbers BS just cited indicated that teams might have figured him out already.
What I will say is he’s a lot more aggressive than Rose and if there’s anything that I wish Rose had that Jennings does it would be that.

well your judgement is based on a a portion of the season
Your comparing Rose’s ROY season and Playoff appearance to 14 games. Its always easy to jump bandwagons. Also Rose’s was hurt early in the season. Yeah Jennings can shoot but lets see what happens to him when the game adjusts to him. Jennings shoots because his team needed him to. Last year Gordon shot everything. Rose is simply better because he is proven thus far as opposed to jennings. (55 points or not)

I'm willing to grant that he might have just started hot, but like I said
earlier, you can only go on what he’s done and his start to the season was better than any stretch Derrick had last year. Now maybe he totally falls off a cliff as teams adjust, but I doubt he drops off THAT much. They will probably end up fairly comparable, only Jennings being the more aggressive of the two.

Maybe. Maybe not. Also, Derrick didn't play his best basketball in the playoffs.
He played 2 good games in a 7 game series. His PER from the Celtics series was well below his season PER and Rajon Rondo absolutely toasted him on the other end. The idea that he played so great in the playoffs is a misnomer that was a product of his crazy awesome debut.

The other problem I have is that I'm from New England originally, but
I’d feel guilty about latching onto the Celtics’ bandwagon because they are currently top dogs and that wouldn’t really feel right. I have nothing invested with those players. Although, if the Bulls’ org continues this fuckery (especially if the 2010 ‘plan’ totally fails), I might be taking my ass over to Celticsblog because damn it, I want to root for a team that has an owner who actually gives a crap about putting a winner on the court. Yeah, it would feel doubly bad because of the bad blood
I developed for the Celtics during the ‘greatest playoff loss ever.’ But then again, Jerry Reinsdorf basically makes me feel like there’s no hope of the Bulls ever competing in the upper echelons of the league again (barring an M. It’d be one thing to be bad, but feel like the organization had a plan. It’s a whole other thing to be bad and feel like the plan IS to be bad / mediocre.

you see, i don't think Jennings is going to fall off a little
I think he is going to fall off a bunch. He is shooting .49% from behind the 3pt line. That is down from shooting 55%. There is no way he keeps those numbers up. His fg% is already down to 43%. Best case scenario he is a 40% 3pt shooter.
So while he may end up the best rookie in his class, I don’t think he is going to keep playing at an all-star level. Over the last 5 games, he has come back to earth.
by Basketball Smurf on Nov 30, 2009 10:09 PM CST up reply actions
even if he's just a 40% 3PT shooter, if we assume he's about equal with Rose
in most other respects, which seems fair given that he’s a good sight better on D than Rose was as a rookie (again just because Derrick was so terrible on D last year), isn’t he still a better player than the rookie Rose? Rose never even got close to shooting 40% from 3. Derrick hasn’t even added the 3 point shot this year, despite the Bulls’ desperate need of it.

Well considering that not even close to the season being over,
He has a better Rookie year.Yet he slown down significantly these past few games. All Jennings have on Rose is 3 point shooting. And Jenning’s D is worst than Rose.Who played good D on him all game.Unless Jennings scores 25 through the season. And make the playoffs and score over 30 in the playoffs against a GOOD defensive team. Then I cant say that he is having a better Rookie year than Rose.Who looks faster than jennings too.
Jennings D is not worse than Rose's. Derrick, last year as a rookie, played the worst
PG defense in the entire league. Jennings is no great shakes, but he’s not nearly as bad as Derrick was on defending the PnR last year (probably because he learned how to play it in Italy).

Well that's not a valid comparison. Derrick's been in the NBA for a year
so his defense improved. Jennings has only been in the NBA for 15 games, as you all pointed out and his defense is still way better than anything Rose showed last year. Jennings’ D is probably about the same as Derrick’s this year even with Derrick’s (slight) improvement on that end. So if we assume he’s going to improve too, then as a second year player, he will be better on defense than Derrick was this year.

Agree to disagree
until the season is over,And if he makes the playoffs then he has to score over 30 against a good D team and a good D PG.(yes i said rhonda is good at defense) hate rhonda.
Right now
the only part of Jenning’s game that I would day is better is 3 point shooting
by RogersPark Kris on Nov 30, 2009 9:56 PM CST up reply actions
Jennings sets guys up better, runs the pick and roll better, and defends better (although both are not great on D).
Derrick is better at finishing and probably has a better handle. Derrick also has a body to absorb a lot more contact than Jennings.

Physically he dominates Jennings
And Rose does a great job of setting up players. We just don’t have any real post up players to set up.
by RogersPark Kris on Nov 30, 2009 10:02 PM CST up reply actions
He dominates him physically in measurables, but Derrick rarely takes advantage
of his physical gifts. He’s got to change his mentality to ever reach his potential.

he played about as well as we could have hoped and it was still terrible. he shouldn't be getting minutes
the org shouldn’t have waste money and a roster spot on him and Vinny shouldn’t be exacerbating the problem by playing him 22 freakin minutes, Hinrich out or no.

No. I think it would take a true death spiral of like falling 15 or more games below .500
The Bulls are undoubtably planning to hire a new coach this offseason. Unless they absolutely crash there’s no reason they’ll can him. They don’t care about winning this season.
I look forward to the lack of a coach being one more reason the Bulls won’t be able to sign anyone in the offseason.

nice....but then there wont be any1 half way decent to hire
and they will resort to a rookie headcoach again
