They were to a degree surprised nobody reached out to A.I, they said all of his former teamates loved him, and that some of these G.M’s are basically happy Iverson isn’t signed. They almost came strraight out to say the league black listed A.I due to his cultural representations i.e cornorows, tattoo’s, his overall swag that has influenced the generations that follow. Jalen Rose broke it down very well saying how there’s really 4 or 5 really good teams and everyone else is trying to catch up, and when you have a dominant scorer sitting home who’ll only cost 3 million for this season makes no sense. Iverson is getting smeared by those who really don’t know the truth for being the bad guy, but he never had a fight on the court, he never ran in the stands to beat up fans, he doesn’t have a long rap sheet like some of these others do. I don’t care what the Iverson bashers say, he can still ball, he’s not a cancer to the team, and he’s not a bad guy. It’s a shame he got ran out of the league like this but he had a great run!

It'll sound silly

But I think they were putting on a front honestly. Everyone was talking about how this wouldn’t end well. Even John Thompson acknowledged how AI and Sheed did do things that were questionable in their past when he interviewed them last year with the Pistons.

I never say anything about someones character unless it relates to basketball or if its just about how other people react to a certain player. I can see why these teams didn’t sign him he refuses to come off the bench hes going to want to play 30+ minutes.
I can see how the Knicks could use him actually though but I can also see why they declined. Walsh doesn’t want to do what Isaiah did. Hopefully he’ll still be back maybe he just needs to think on it for a little while some people are trying to talk him out of retiring.

thought his speech was kool, alothough ESPN took out the "good" parts

I would like to announce my plans to retire from the National Basketball Association. I always thought that when I left the game, it would be because I couldn’t help my team the way that I was accustomed to. However, that is not the case.

I still have tremendous love for the game, the desire to play, and a whole lot left in my tank. I feel strongly that I can still compete at the highest level.

Stepping away from the game will allow me to spend quality time with my wife and kids. This is a reward that far exceeds anything that I’ve ever achieved on the basketball court. I have prayed for this day and I see it as my greatest gift.

I want to thank the people of Reebok International Ltd., for always allowing me to be me and for supporting me my whole career through all the ups and downs. I have enjoyed 13 wonderful seasons in the NBA, and I am grateful.

I want to first acknowledge my fans everywhere, who have been with me throughout my entire career. Without you, there would be no me. You should all know that I appreciate your support from the bottom of my heart. Thank you!

To Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Isiah Thomas, Charles Barkley and Larry Bird, you guys gave me the vision to play the game that will be forever in my heart.

To my Mom, who encouraged and inspired me to play every day, and to all of my family and friends who stood by me from the beginning. Thank you!

To my high school coach, Michael Bailey, Coach John Thompson at Georgetown University, Coach Larry Brown and to all of my other coaches, teammates, administrators, owners and staff who’ve been a part of my career, Thank you as well!

I’d like to give a special thanks to the people of Memphis. I never played a home game for your beloved Grizzlies, but I want you to know how much I appreciate the opportunity given me by a great owner in Michael Heisley, and the support of the city. I wish the Memphis Grizzlies’ organization all of the success that the game has to offer.

And finally, to the city of Philadelphia: I have wonderful memories of my days in a Sixers’ uniform. To Philly fans, thank you. Your voice will always be music to my ears.

he can help us. he really can.

he can help the organization

he can help them fill the seats, he can help keep our attention in the game, he can help by becoming another player we can blame for losses…i dont think iverson could actually increase our chances of winning, at least not enough for it to matter.

On Behalf of Sue, Wjb, majoyenrac, Bullshooter and all the other Hinrich fans...Ill keep the Hinrich Hope coming...There will be light!

although i dont support him on our team, I think he should go to the cavs, spurs anywhere where he has a chance to win a ring. He deserves one

he did carry the nba

during the dark ages of the nba. and he was a prolific scorer. idk, just sucks to not go out like that.

He's going out on his terms.

AI refused to change or acknowledge that he’s not the same player anymore. It sucks to think in 10 years no one will remember Iverson for the right reasons, but he brought it on himself.

The 2009 White Sox....like a 40 degree day.

Yeah thats why I was shaking my head while Kenny Smith was changing his tune. He was on TNT doing segments on AIs decline now hes busting on teams that didn’t pick him up and saying he could score 25. Well if he could do that every night that’d be something.

by Camry on Nov 26, 2009 12:19 PM CST up reply actions

i think that could be worse

think about karl malone, he basically stuck with the lakers hoping that he could get a ring, way past his prime and wasnt much use to the team, but he wanted a ring…never got one. I feel the worst for him, if not for mj he probably wouldve had one…possibly 2….

Goodbye, and good riddens!

Never liked him.

Selfish player who can’t play a team game or adapt to his diminishing skills.

No wonder no team picked him up…
