Fuck GarPaxDorf. They failed to construct a talented team.

Vinny’s been bad, but he doesn’t have the talent to compete, either.

Kirk sucks. Brad looks finished. Derrick’s mediocre more often than he’s spectacular. Taj fucking blows.

We have no shooters. We’re an NBA team . . . with no fucking shooters. Absolutely insane.

On the positive side: props to Deng for hitting a couple of non-corner threes.

Everything else sucked.

No, no, Vinny has been really bad

His best asset is Derrick Rose right. Granted, Derrick was recovering from the ankle injury, but still, last week’s comments did for me.

Why was Derrick the only one saying he needed to be more aggressive? Can you imagine Skiles coaching this team and Derrick being that passive? Derrick would be benched before we’d even see it happen.

it boggles the mind that the Bulls repeatedly come up the court and run plays

for Deng and Salmons, time and time again when neither of those guys pass the ball worth shit. Look at their stats – each guy holds the ball for 3 seconds, decides what they want to do, and if there is no chance for them to get off a shot, than they pass. They are making Gordon look like Steve Nash with the way they are dishing the ball.

by Basketball Smurf on Nov 23, 2009 11:52 PM CST up reply actions

I already granted that he's been bad, but this is not a talented team. With Tyrus out, they only

go 7 deep and three of those 7 suck (Taj, Salmons, Kirk), one is mediocre most nights (Derrick), and the other two are the only reasons the Bulls have been worth anything this year (Deng and Noah).

Its definitely not talented, but it has no shot of reaching the talent level it has

I don’t care if they try every trick in the book and fail, but our offense is currently dreadful to watch. I agree with Basketball Smurf….if the offense is going to be this bad, you better coach the hell out of Derrick, since he’s your best weapon on offense. Seriously….these blowouts should almost be an opportunity to teach him what he needs to do out there.

Instead, this offense relies on making jump shots almost by design (b/c VDN encourages it). Just look at where guys typically catch the ball. Its embarrassing.

Yeah

I’m thinking Vinny’s been pretty crappy of late too, we’re quitting in the 4th, and we have 3 guys who should be enough offensively if we were coached correctly (Rose, Salmons and Deng)….

Sadly....through thick and thin....

by majoyenrac on Nov 24, 2009 7:17 AM CST up reply actions

i dont think were quitting in the 4th

i think were just tired. were on an extended west coast road trip with a 7 man rotation, and one of the 7 is 36 years old. plus, we rely on superfluous effort to even stay in games against these top teams, and it’s unrealistic to expect them to be able to sustain that effort for 48 minutes on a road trip against the best teams in the league

Tired or quitting....fine line....

I’m so annoyed with this club.

Hell the laziness of the GM and marketing execs is proven every time I see the We Love it Live commercials, which end with a Nocioni layup….I mean Noc has been gone almost a year already, and they had a new commercial yesterday that showed a bunch of Rose and Tyrus highlights, and then at the end quickly showed a freaking Nocioni layup.

Hell gimme Nocioni back at half pay….at least having his hustle to go with Noah, Deng, and Rose (And hopefully the reemergence of Salmons) can make our bad team more fun to watch….

What Vinny needs is a perimeter player who is a scorer, e.g. Ben Gordon.

I misinterpreted this from your game wrap-up then:

The defense looks ordinary and the offense still looks terrible now that the Bulls are on the road playing very good teams. But they won’t be for long, and I expect them to win enough to stay near .500 all year. That was the prospect laid out for us on July 1st, and since I got most of my anger out then it’s hard to stay that way when things are falling into place.

Weird game

Arguably our season’s best shooting performance, only 6 turnovers, and we lost by 24. I think Taj is worse than people’s low expectations of him. Here’s to hoping Tyrus’ injury was a blessing in disguise.

by Calogero on Nov 24, 2009 8:03 AM CST up reply actions

Yeah

And the sad thing is Taj had one of his better games and yet couldn’t play enough real D to offset the Blazers….sure he had a block here or there, but aside from the big plays his D is rookie rough.

He could be a decent 7th man in a year or two, and isn’t exactly a bad pick for the spot we pickeed him, but he’s just getting too much burn.

I think we absolutely need to go small ball:
Rose-Hinrich-Salmons-Deng-Noah with Miller then gasp Pargo tops off the bench, and pray Tyrus gets back in 2 weeks…..

We have no chance other than to use our athletes…

The problem with that idea

is that Kurt is having a career worst year shooting the ball (3-pt., 2-pt. and FT).

Kirk vs Taj

Deng vs Taj?

Enough said….

That lineups better than the one we’re starting with….Salmons more in his natural position, Deng in a Lewis like role…..and the way Deng’s been playing, that seems like it’ll work. Kirk helps us defensively, Rose can attack….

I want Tyrus back obviously, but for now let’s play the best we can….with a thin front line. Brad’s a defensive liability and can be scary bad with turnover runs, though in stretches will play well….

…smell like doo doo

they need to step it up! vinny needs to stop being so passive. get on these guys to hustle and put forth effort, mainly just hit shots. our defense seems to be getting worse too compared to early in the season.

we need thomas and gray back.

say it isn't so

deng’s looked good. i’m impressed with him. had much lower expectations
noah has been beast. last 2 games he has been outplayed though. he seems frustrated and out of focus. need to get him motivated and focused agan.
rose has looked better last 2-3 games but the team hasn’t. so i don’t know what to think of this. is it worse for the team??
salmons is inconsistent. good game, then 2 bad ones. then finds it again. we need more consistency from you fishsticks.
hinrich has been disappointing. good defense at times, hustle, grind. but his shot is somewhere else. step it up KURT
gibson…not buyng into his hype. but he has been solid at teams. fouls alot and makes his fair share of rookie mistakes. like the hustle tho.
johnson. not much to judge on. looks to have potential but not ready.

with thomas’ return. we should be back to much better standards. more should be demanded from them

I disagree with this

The Bulls matchup bad with the top teams in the league, like all bad teams do. But they matchup with them extra badly, if I can say that, because they lack big men and they can’t score. This is the 3rd game in a row that the Bulls have been physically overwhelmed inside. Add in the fact that the Lakers, Nuggs and Blazers all have more perimeter talent and you have 3 straight blowouts..

Not every team in the league is going to have this gigantic a physical advantage over the Bulls.

by Basketball Smurf on Nov 23, 2009 11:55 PM CST up reply actions

Okay, say they get blown out against all the very good to great teams

then they go .500 (based on their play so far that’s pretty generous) against the rest of the league, that still puts them well below .500 and out of the playoffs. This is a 33-35 win team. Book it.

I watched the game...

The refs blew at least four fouls on Derrick for one…also, most of the “offensive sets” (if you can call them that), involved Derrick passing the ball off immmediately….Roy was attcking the rim all game because the plays or at least initial sets were created that way…he was given space off of his high screens…when the Bulls gave Rose space, he was successful…he had two of the sweetest reverse layups I have seen in awhile from anyone…it’s Vinny’s job to get Derrick the room to attack more….too bad Salmons and Hinrich aren’t exactly halping

THe refs blew in general

Noah was getting pushed in the back with every rebound attempt, 9 out of 10 of which would result in the Blazers getting the boards….

I'm guessing he'll take less to play on a team that has championship potential...

And I don’t mean the Rockets.

Yeah

It was funny some of our out of bounds plays were totally the BG plays Vinny called last year, except with Salmons taking an open but tough shot out of the corner, I think Salmons got open all 2-3 times they ran this, but went an easy 0-3….

BG would have hit 2 of those at least….and if he was on, all 3….give that man an open look and he hits…..shame.

terrible rebounding differential. loose balls (50/50s) all grabbed by portland. refs calls favor blazers as if they were lakers. oden makes all but 2 free throws. andre miller has his best blazer game(?), as he parades to the foul line as well. bulls score okay off numerous rose drive and dish plays, yet rose looks more like boris diaw than tony parker (france is on my mind atm – it’s a long story) by passing up easier chance buckets or fouls in the paint. nate has them shoot early in the first half – 60%. second half bull defense forces many buzzer beaters – all (i swear, all) go in the basket, either dunks in the paint or (more often) 3 point bombs. noah tries to match strength with oden (who should not even be in the game with foul trouble, but he’s playing the bulls) …and fails.

and shows his and our collective frustration. but noah had a dunk, as did rose…. and deng hit two 3s.

that’s my recap, but not to worry. the bulls are still on course to go 6-9 for the first 15. or, i should say, they’re actually ahead of my personal 5-10 prediction.

In Oden's FT defense...

He’s been shooting around 75-80% for the season. He’s a good FT shooter.

Aside from choking twice (against Denver on TNT and against… the Hornets? I forget) he’s been an extremely reliable FT shooter, especially for a non-shooting raw 21 year old 7 footer.

Rose is still just hurt, he’ll come around. He’s awesome. And Noah has been awesome all year too, he just can’t match up with Oden’s size… and now that Oden is in shape, he’s been doing this all year. We just don’t pass to him nearly enough because we aren’t used to a big like Oden, and foul problems have limited him almost every game.

I just want you to sleep easier tonight

Knowing that Oden’s FT shooting wasn’t an aberration. You weren’t unlucky there, it was normal.

Now you can lay your sweet head on your dainty pillow and rest easy, not a care in the world.

I’m surprised you don’t care about Rose being eventually awesome again.

And please understand

I don’t go to other team’s sites to gloat, I just like talking about the game.

I don’t think anyone should be down on Noah after the game, since Oden has VERY quietly been the Blazers best player this season. And that isn’t an exaggeration. The very best two-way player.

He just gets in foul trouble every damn game, so the raw per game stats don’t reflect it, just stuff like adjusted plus minus, PER, and per-36.

Noah has been awesome all year, but he can’t help it when he’s out-sized. Noah already did a great job getting stronger, and he always tries, so it ain’t his fault.

I’d like Rose to sit if he’s truly unhealthy; no point in getting that ankle worsened. If he IS healthy, then he’s just rusty.

One thing I don’t get— why do you guys hate Taj Gibson already? Shouldn’t a rookie get at least 13 games before you hate him?

We don't hate Taj Gibson,

we hate VDN for over-playing him and JR being too cheap for the Bulls to have a better backup and Paxson for signing the useless Lindsey Hunter instead of buying a second round pick and getting DeJuan Blair to bang inside.

Seems like every fanbase is upset over not getting Blair

Aside from the Spurs, of course. Over at Blazers Edge it’s become cliche to wish we had Blair.

I personally think, over time, people won’t regret not getting Blair. He’s an amazing rebounder and good at put backs, but he’ll never be able to defend any other big. He’s too slow for the smaller quick ones, too small for the real ones. That may be fine in a backup, but those limitations combined with the fact that his knees could explode at any moment (he could be getting out of a car, and they could go, ya never know), mean that missing out on the New-Jack Reggie Evans won’t be a big deal.

If Tyrus wasn’t hurt, Blair would hardly be playing. Plus you won’t need a guy who only rebounds as long as you got Noah, Miller, and Tyrus.

I agree about Lindsay Hunter… he’s your Juwan Howard.

Sorry about misreading the feelings on Taj, I only skimmed the comments to get a general feel. Seemed overwhelmingly negative to me, especially for a rookie. I should have assumed it was VDN putting him in a position to fail, over it being an actual problem with The Taj.

It's not VDN putting him in a position to fail

it’s PaxDorf, he of the ’Let’s have four bigs and then Aaron Gray gets injured because I really need Lindsay Hunter and Jannero Pargo as extra guards, so we can’t pick up some random serviceable big men’ plan.
When TT gets hurt … especially with Gray out, we have absolutely no depth.

I support the Tornado Release ... and Young Bucks.

The Bulls future is more depressing than the present

Somehow, they’ve played around .500 ball and been more competitive than I thought they would. Look at the junk they throw out on the floor. They have 2 usually good players in Noah and Deng. No one else is particularly good and some like Gibson, Salmons, and Hinrich are pretty bad. It’s shocking they’ve won 6 games.

Unfortunately, they aren’t getting anyone decent in 2010. They won’t have the money. Salmons isn’t opting out and Hinrich is a millstone. Explain too me how Gordon can be declared garbage by the casual fanbase while Kirk somehow escapes criticism.

Anyway, the Bulls best hope of adding talent in 2010 is their damn draft pick. And even that is shadowed by the Bulls inability to develop talent. It’s a crime that Rose is playing for VDN instead of someone like D’Antoni. At this point, the best they could do would be to somehow trade Deng and get some expiring money back, but his contract is still bad even though he’s decent he’s probably still untradeable.

The only hope for this franchise rising out of mediocrity is another lottery miracle, so that’s what I’m going to hope for. Making the playoffs would be a bad thing for this team.

by hitlesswonder on Nov 24, 2009 12:16 AM CST reply actions

the VDN hire is mind boggling still

You get the #1 pick in the draft. You put the future of the franchise in his hands. And you hire a coach with zero experience to teach him the game? Huh? Dorf’s cheapness screws the Bulls again.

unless we do something we are not landing Bron, Bosh, Wade or Joe Johnson then we are screwed.

the thing that scares me the most about this game?

pargo, hinrich, rose, and salmons all shot well (22-44 combined, pargo was the worst %wise at 4-9) and we still lost by 24. granted, the opposition isn’t going to shoot as well as portland did tonight every night, but it’s disconcerting that our guards all finally shot a decent percentage (although rose still wasn’t efficient) and we still got hammered

http://ExtendtheGame.blogspot.com

by Calogero on Nov 24, 2009 8:18 AM CST reply actions

im also sickened that we let that ninny LMA get 13 rebounds

a 47-27 advantage on the boards for portland certainly hurt us, but that won’t happen every night. it’s easy to dominate the other team on the glass when we miss 43 shots and they only miss 31.

agreed

it’s difficult to rebound effecitvely as a team when your starting 4 stinks at rebounding. the rebounding from last night doesn’t really concern me long term though— deng and noah were each well below their rebound averages, and there weren’t many rebounds to be had because portland didn’t miss.

I only saw the first half

It seemed like Portland was going to hit every shot they took, even with two guys in their face. I didn’t think the D was all that bad, but it’s pretty demoralizing when they hit jumpers time and again even though you’re right in their kitchen.

2nd half

Was the Rudy Fernandez show. Seriously that guy is incredible and under-utilized…because the Blazers have too much depth.

Pax should work long and hard to pry him from Portland if at all available.
