Rose Problem: Trying too hard to please Vinny and "teammates"
Sam Smith wrote a blog Is Derrick Rose jinxed or just a sophomore?
I am going to take a key quote attributed to Derrick Rose out of that Blog, because I believe this is the root of the problem with Rose.
“I’m not going to the hole the way the way I’m used to,” admitted Rose. “It seems to me I’m not that aggressive. But it’s going to change tomorrow (Thursday). You get caught up with….I really don’t know. I get caught up with what happens if I shoot too many times and all that stuff, thinking about my teammates. But I know I’m going to have to aggressive from now on.
Derrick Rose is thinking too much on the court. He is worried over "shooting too much" and "what will happen" if he shoots too much. Who is saying that he is shooting too much..... Deng? ...... Salmons? ....... or is it Vinny? Why is your Franchise Player worrying over what will happen if he shoots too much. That is the problem. He did not want to say it publicly. He hesitated. Derrick Rose has to learn to tell whomever it is on the team that is saying that he is shooting too much to SHUT THE FUCK UP AND I WILL PASS THE BALL TO YOU WHEN I AM READY.
Rose should tell the "teammates" he is concerned over that IF YOU FUCK UP ANOTHER OF MY ASSISTS THEN YOUR ASS WILL NOT GET THE BALL AGAIN. If Vinny is stressing Rose on shooting too much then Vinny should be fired on the spot. That is why Rose is so passive. Rose is passing them the ball and saying "fuck it". Someone said it on another thread that Rose is trying too hard to please everyone. He is going to have to learn to reverse that and make everyone...INCLUDING THE COACH be concerned about pleasing HIM and keeping HIM happy and not the other way around.
I blame this problem SQUARELY on Vinny. I am hoping that when Rose meets with Arn Tellem and B. J. Armstrong today that he tells them why he is dissatisfied. If B. J. is any kind of a good agent then he will do what is necessary to correct this Bullshit that is going on in the team. Because we are winning it is not an issue, but let us go on an extended losing streak and this quote will come back to the surface.

Derrick Rose's current struggles have little
to do with his mindset and his coaches, in my opinion.
Simply put, it is his ankle. Sam intimates the same conclusion in his blog.
I have been fortunate enough to sit courtside for two Bulls games this season and it is plainly apparent to me that Rose isn’t healthy. He lacks the explosion that was his trademark last season. He continually winces during timeouts on the floor and trots gingerly to and from the team huddles. His ability to elevate is absent. On one play against the Bucks, he had a wide open dunk along the baseline. I thought he was going to tomahawk the ball. Instead, his hands barely reached the rim as he delicately placed the ball in the cylinder. You could practically see the confusion and dismay on his face. He is accustomed to effortlessly gliding through the air.
I have to believe the ankle will ultimately return to form, but the protracted nature of the injury is troubling. In fact, it is downright depressing. If Rose is hobbled by some chronic injury, the Bulls have no hope of developing into a title contender.

Derricks quote on wondering what would happen if he shoots too much suggests that more is going on besides the injury.

He was passive at Memphis, he was passive much of his rookie year
It’s highly unlikely that coaching could have such a severe effect on his personality and on court tendencies. He just has a passive personality and wants to include his teammates. That’s quite a leap to be blaming this on Vinny.

Not passive to this degree.
He knew when to turn it on.

Derrick didnt just come out to the media and say that quote
no doubt someone asked him a question which led him to answer. So if the said question was something along the lines of “With the whole team struggling to find shots, do you think that maybe you should take more shots” or something like that..which would lead his answer to include somethingn about his teamates..

See - if this is really the case - why the hell are we letting our franchise PG play with an injury?
Does that not seem incredibly stupid to anyone else? Let the kid heal, because if this injury turns into anything worse, the franchise is completely screwed.

i thought the problem was more conditioning
mixed with soreness of the ankle….i dont think its actually an injury anymore, but a feeling of soreness (which i think is normal) mixed with his lack of conditioning, which explains why he is puzzled about his lack of ability to explode to the rim. He wants to but his body just isnt responding the way it normally does. Maybe rest is the answer, but i think its some psycho-physical problem, like hes subconciously holding back and he cant figure out why…

a ankle injury won't make you commit bad turnovers or make bad decisions
Athletes of all sports play with injuries, many times we won’t even know of them. A sore ankle isn’t the problem, Rose is struggling mentally and he even eluded to it when he says, " You get caught up with….I really don’t know. I get caught up with what happens if I shoot too many times and all that stuff, thinking about my teammates" It doesn’t get more evident than that right there! This is a mental issue!

Monday night that the ankle is still a problem.

Good god, I didn't get
from that article that any teammates, coach etc. have said anything to Rose about him shooting too much. Derrick never even implied that. All he said was he is thinking this to himself.
Remember when he said he was playing no matter what when the season started? His ankle was not healthy then and it’s not healthy now. I don’t see how it will ever heal playing every game. You can only do what your body will allow and we are seeing that now.

The problem with Derrick isn't some injury........
I’m just gonna be honest and straigh to the point! Derrick Rose isn’t the brightest guy, a point guard is the equal to the quarterback in football. He’s the floor general, the guy who runs the show (well in a traditional offense that is). When have you ever see a great point guard, or Quarter back who wasn’t very smart? Derrick is probably a nice kid don’t get me wrong, but he doesn’t know how to be a great point guard and now it’s showing. Last year Derrick got by on physical abilities, he wasn’t a go to guy, he wasn’t a great play maker, and he didn’t a have a great offensive scheme to run. I said before the season started in a post I wrote called “The reality of Kirk” the shortcomings to Derrick’s game and what he needed to do to improve. Right now Derrick’s issue is mental, his confidence is almost gone and that’s another problem. He’s got a thousand things probably running threw his mind because someone is trying to develop him to be a pure point and this is something he should have learned from AAU and high school. I saw in the Sacramento game Derrick looking like a player who has hit a wall and his confidence is at a career low, I don’t know what happened but that’s what I see. Also I’m gonna repeat, Derrick is young, and immature, and in all actuality could have benefitted from another year or two of college to actually learn the point guards role and how to be a elite player at the spot. Even though he had success, in my eyes, there were elements to his game that were missing. Physically, he’s one of the best PG’s ever, but mentally and skill wise, he’s just above average. Derrick should however get out of this slump, it just takes a few good games from him to do the part, but right now the man is shook, and we just have to hope it’s nothing permanent in his psyche that’s got him off his square.

i respectfully disagree
there is no question he has the athletic ability and skill to be one of the best PG in the league. He is in a slump right now, for whatever reason. But i dont think it has anything to do with the kid not being “the brightest guy”. I think its a learning process, the transition from rookie to 2nd year floor leader. He is still learning the game from an NBA standpoint, and I think is coming along nicely. Does he have to be more aggressive?YES…Does he have to learn to be a leader? YES… Does he care or think about what his coaches and teammates say about him? YES… But dont brush the kid off as dumb, or unable to learn the game and produce quality minutes. Who knows what the real reason is behind this slow start?? But from watching this kid in memphis and seeing what he did last year as a rook, I think the potential star quality in this kid are truly limitless….Just give him time to grow into it!
Eat. Sleep. Pray. Watch chicago play.
P.S.
You've obviously mistaken me for someone who gives a shit about what you think.

What player is a go-to guy
in his rookie season?
He’s young and impressionable, there are so many factors and people who could be influencing him.

Chi_till_eye_die and Super-structure, I know what I said maybe harsh, or offensive, even mean
I’m not saying it to be mean spirited either. But being a point guard, at an elite level, the best ones have strong personalities, charisma, intelligence, confidence……Magic, Zeke, John Stockton, Steve Nash, Baron Davis, Tiny Archibald, Earl Monroe, Derek Harper, these are some of the best point guards I’ve ever seen and there personalities are all much stronger than Derrick’s. I may be wrong, but I’ve never seen any of the great point guards and got the impression they were kind of ….well not very bright. I believe to be a great point guard you have to be smart, some reasons I say this is that the point guard runs the show, the point guard sets the offense, the point guard is the floor leader, the point guard has to make the right passes and plays at the right time, the point guard is usually the lease physically gifted player on the court and has to make up for size disadvantages by being more skilled and out think the bigger more physically gifted players. Rose attacking the rim, out jumping other point guards, or out running them has never been an issue for Rose, but with the success he and the team had his shortcomings were seriously overlooked, not being hard on him, it’s just good constructive criticism. I think Rose may have been told what he needs to work on, namely being a better floor leader, and I think the concept is difficult for him to right now piece together. I do not think Rose is a super moronic dumb guy who can’t get it, but I think he’s just having a hard time understanding the role of a point guard, hence you see him make the statement he made above…..“I get caught up with what happens if I shoot too many times and all that stuff, thinking about my teammates” Rose is having a hard time understanding when to take over, when to pass, when to look for his shot and so on.

I agree if your argument is that he is 21 years old...
and he should be rationalizing before the media. But seriously, the intelligence thing is just plain gross; .
He is a sophomore point with his first pro injury, who missed preseason, and has probably never really been questioned as a player before. Give him a couple of games where he isn’t noticeably injured before we start questioning his drive and intelligence.

We say Rose starting to come out of his shell in the 3rd quarter against the Lakers.
Making all 7 of his last shots should help get him back on track.

Yea I said that Derrick Rose wouldn't be better in a Bulls uniform than Jalen Rose
I really saw little of his talent last year and I am so happy it is becoming more evident to fans this year. After all the SHi** I took from people here at blog a bull. that’s ok I still love you all and the Bulls…but not over hyped D Rose
