How can you not like Noah?: part #459
The Bulls haven’t done a very good job of explaining some of the lingo to players. Joakim Noah had no idea why the Bulls’ annual November road swing is called the circus trip.
Answer: Because the Ringling Bros., Barnum & Bailey Circus moves into the United Center for about two weeks, forcing the Bulls and Blackhawks to hit the road.
"That’s why they call it the circus trip?" Noah said. "I was like, ‘Why do they always call it the circus trip? What’s so circus about it?’ I didn’t even know that."
Though to be fair, one could've made an alternate definition of the Bulls' circus trip as to mean they usually put on a clown show.

not sure if it's related
but I received an email from a friend who was at the game Saturday:
I was at the Bulls game on Saturday. During a time-out they had this act come out. Lulu, the Bulls circus dog. And I swear EVERY Bulls player was watching the act even VDN. He wasn’t even TRYING to coach us during the time out. Every single player was just standing watching the dog. I was beside myself.

yeah, but I'm sure VDN got through his huddle before then.

SHOOT WITH CONFIDENCE!
BE AGGRESSIVE.
Metal sharpens metal.
And this guy right here understands and knows what leadership is all about: The coach, the hall of famer......... Dick Butka! George Ryan
I still don't really get that
VDN had another ‘trax’ anecdote last year where he told Luol Deng not ’don’t be down’, but ’don’t look like you’re down’. I guess you had to be there.
Anyway, it seems VDN, who’s already known to be into motivational mumbo-jumbo at its most mumbo-jumbo-iest, really believes in feeling successful over being successful.
Then again, he’s dealing with athletes, so it may work.

We're coached by
Tappy Tibbons from “Requiem for a Dream”.

Or Kevin Nealon’s character in “Happy Gilmore”. “Be the ball Happy. Take it home.”

Oh, that's amazing.
Recced.
I support the Tornado Release ... and Young Bucks.
psh
On a serious level: giving them a small mental break and relaxing them might actually have been a good thing.
Not serious level: All hail the power of cute dogs.
Also, this is why I love Noah. I think having grown up in a well-off family, he has experience a lot of the burdens (and ergo, potential pride issues) that many young superstars have, IE, the hanger-ons, etc. So he is much more likely to say what is on his mind, because, in the end, if worst comes to worst, he heads back home to a pretty nice life as is.
I’m really surprised at how well the Bulls team is playing. Though, part of me was hoping they’d get some nice draft picks this year (the draft class this year could be a little ridiculous).
count me as one
who assumed it was the circus trip because the bulls do bad during it.
Lurking since 2006
i always knew it was because the circus came into town
and ive never been to the circus and always wanted to go and now think that time as passed being im about to turn 20 years old… but yeah when you go 0-6 every year during something called the circus trip i was just assume it had to do with the fact that a game has never been won during it rather than the meaning of the name
R.I.P. Nick Adenhart
Wow.
I grew up in Florida, but even then, back in the old days, I knew why they called it the circus trip. I wonder what Rose’s answer would have been…
What I truly dont get about this dumb trip is why the circus has to come at the same damn time every year? And why do they first come to the Allstate area for a month, then to the UC? Do they really need to have the same circus at the Allstate, then at the UC? Are there a ton of people in the city of Chicago just dying to see the circus but unwilling to go to the Allstate to see it? Is it worth breaking down, then setting up everything again, in that close a proximity? Who the hell goes to the circus anymore!? Clearly, I’ve thought about this way too much over the years…
If they are in town for two months
what do you think the best way is to try to hang out with the circus workers ? Do they go to bars ? Stay at hotels? Or do they stay in a little room on a train that they share with the camel.

Smash! The Circus is on a perpetual tour, so its easier if they book the same dates at venues year over year…and yes, it is worth it to move from the smaller AllState to the UC…I suspect they would prefer to have every night at the UC, but our local sports teams will not comply!
Let’s hope when they tear down Wrigley, we get a dome on the northside…maybe then we will not have the Circus trip
Why isn't your friendly Bulls Blogger friendly?
If they (the circus) tours all year long, why the hell don't they book them at the UC during the summer...
when there’s absolutely nothing going on there?

Why is it that
The Bulls ALWAYS struggle on the circus trip.Even in the Jordan years that happens.WHY???
A bunch of road games in succession
is NOT easy.
by Stacey_Is_King on Nov 16, 2009 6:33 PM CST up reply actions
in the Jordan years it didn't happen
and in the 10 years since, they haven’t been that good.

the 90's Bulls loved to go on the road.
they were the NBA. They would get little books from Phil. Luc Longley would bust his shoulder body surfing.
The video of Joakim
talking about this is cute.
OK I don't know shit about basketball.

I'm surprised so many people didn't know why
It’s funny because I never thought it was a bad thing. Of course when I first learned of the circus trip the bulls were dominating teams on it.

Sadly I've been to the circus more than I have the Bulls games.
Thats my gf’s fault she likes abused elephants standing on bouncy balls.
I get a sick rush when the Tigers are in that cage...
every time the ring master whips the Tiger I pine for it to attack him and pounce on his head. I try not to let my GF see me drooling and blood thirsty. I just eat the nachos until it induces diarrhea. After that I just watch the hot twirling russian chicks and their wonderfully sculpted bodies hoping my GF doesn’t notice.
Agreed, which is why I hope Noah never wears his draft day getup again.

Couldn't that act be replaced by Eddie Curry -
oh wait, he might break the balls.

So..
I have the official Bulls warmup/shootaround shirt of one Derrick Rose courtesy of my new favorite Bulls staff member. And we kicked their asses up and down the floor too.
