Who Else Hates This Team?

No way around it, I'm starting to hate the Bulls. Watching this team is a chore and I find it more and more difficult warding off the anger that accompanied watching this awfully coached basketball teams. This is going to be a rant, so if you like, feel free to stop reading now.

Star-divide

I don't hate everyone on this team, just most of 'em. Luol, Miller, Noah and Kirk get a pass in my book, as they all make the best of their abilities and contribute consistently.

Derrick Rose- Plays like a fuc*ing wuss. For all his immense potential, his head isn't right. He has no idea how good he is and for a while I was pinning the blame on Vinny and the supporting cast, but it's clear that this kid isn't gonna be "it." How many more times is this kid gonna pass up on huge mis-match and isolation opportunities before you guys see what I see? He's got zero tenacity and none of the voracity that all the really good ones have. Noah's got it, it's just too bad he doesn't have the gifts to be great. Derrick was at the rim four or five times tonight with easy finishes there to be had but he kicked it out or turned it over. A player with star qualities makes things happen at the hoop and/or go es to the line. Derrick doesn't. He lacks vision while still making rookie mistakes and commits loads of stupid turnovers. Put Jenning's brain in Rose's head and you got yourself a perennial MVP candidate. Could he turn himself around, maybe, but I don't see it happening, at least not with this coaching staff. Which brings me to................

Vinny- Everyone with a brain knows that he's entirely bereft of any basketball acumen. He's not a tactition and has no knowledge of X's & O's, so one would think he would be good at managing personalities, right? The players don't respect him, and why should they? Would you respect a coach who's vocabulary is limited to "Run, shoot with confidence, be aggressive, run, run, shoot with confidence, push the ball."? I wouldn't. He doesn't deal with the players well, as evidenced by his issues with Joakim, Gray, Tyrus and most likely other incidents we haven't heard about. This was a terrible hire and to compound the problem Paxson hired this awful coach during the developmental years of the most physically gifted Bull since Jordan or Pippen. Unreal!

John Salmons- I was bullish on Salmons coming into the season, and if he were shooting better, I wouldn't be as upset with him, but the guy is black hole on offense. He drains the shot clock and stagnates the offense. He's an awful passer and rebounder, so if he's not scoring 20 ppg he kills your team. I hope and pray he opts out of his deal after the season, but if he keeps going like this there's no way that happens. This team needs offense badly and the guy looked upon to be either our highest or second highest scorer has fallen flat on his face. No way around it.

James Johnson- I get peeved watching any out-of-shape athletes play professional sports, but JJ is just a kid. He should be in the best shape of his life, instead he comes in with worse conditioning than myself. Inexcusable.

Gray/Hunter- These are players of extremely little consequences, but seeing Gray goofing around on the bench and Lindsey getting jiggy with it in the pre-game huddle pisses me off to no end. These are million dollar players? Lucky SOBs'.

There's a lot more where this came from, but this is a Sat night and I getta get out and do something to clear my head of the dreadful Bulls basketball that consumed the last few hours of my day. I suggest you all do the same.

I just hate that they signed Deng and Hinrich to such lucrative deals,

which has kinda handcuffed them in getting better.. if you would have told me two years ago they would still be on this team and BG would have been on the Pistons well I might have gotten really drunk and passed out in my front lawn completely naked and wearing lipstick.

2010 is truly the last hope, if they strike out I think I’ll actually get drunk and do that some summer night in 2010 when Lebron and Wade stay with their teams and Bosh goes to Miami. Boozer or Joe Johnson ain’t bring titles here.

by SoulEater7 on Nov 14, 2009 11:29 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I'm eating crow right now as Deng's deal is looking better by the game.

But Hinrich’s deal is still an albatross. No getting around the fact that Gordon should still be on this team though and Hinrich should be in another uniform right now (if the Bulls had traded Hinrich for an expiring deal last year they could have signed BG and been in the same financial position they are in now).

As for Salmons, I’m laughing at all the folks now who claimed Salmons wouldn’t stop the ball movement as often as Gordon because what they are seeing is that Salmons stops the ball FAR more than Gordon and is FAR less effective when he does so (although Gordon did his best Salmons imitation the other day by going 1-16 he’s looking like the 3rd or 4th best guard in the Eastern Conference to this point).

by lexdiamonds0730 on Nov 17, 2009 2:23 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

What was your problem with Deng's deal?

If your primary concern is health, you shouldn’t start eating crow until he puts together a full season. If your issue was his performance when healthy, then I can see why you’re getting a face full of crow. Personally, I thought the Bulls could have given him an extension a little later, after the luster of the Miami season wore off, as I didn’t believe that he was good enough to warrant the future all-star talk. Pax probably could have kept him for less by waiting a bit.

Deng's not the problem

Hinrich has to go for Rose can do as good (we expect him to do much better but let’s see…). My hate goes all to management who has not traded Kirk yet.

I feel the pain

Rose is easily one of the most frustrating players in the league to watch. Dude just does not apply himself. He’s so low energy on the court and it really shows.

Was he low energy last year?

I’m seeing him becoming more explosive game by game. I still want to attribute this start to the injury.

Most of the time, yea.

He was also really inefficient on offense and it appears like that isn’t gonna change any time soon

Vinny sucks

I think after Floyd/Cartwright/Skiles/Boylan, it was refreshing to see a coach that players seemed to get along with. Hey, players aren’t staging a mutiny on this guy, maybe he’s not that bad! It’s sad the bar dropped so low.

He’s got the talent for a top 10 offense. We know this team can play defense. I actually like this roster, we’ve just got dead weight on the sidelines.

by YaoPau on Nov 15, 2009 12:04 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

This team may have the talent for a top 10 offense, but it doesn't fit together right

to be a top 10 offense. You can’t have this many non shooters in your offense (as you’ve acknowledge repeatedly). Rose has no 3 ball, Deng doesn’t either, Tyrus doesn’t, Noah doesn’t. That leaves Brad (not a great 3 point shooter), Kirk (solid, but not great 3 point shooter), and Salmons who is a terrible catch and shoot 3 guy. Salmons can only shoot 3s when he isos and jab steps no less than 2 times prior to launching with a hand in his beard.

This team’s talent doesn’t fit properly on offense and the only way that changes is if Deng and Rose miraculously learn to shoot threes well at a high volume during the season (which seems highly unlikely).

Top 10 isn't elite

The Warriors were top 10 last year and they have nobody. Maybe we aren’t a great shooting team, but we rebound well, don’t turn it over, and we should be getting more points inside.

by YaoPau on Nov 15, 2009 1:43 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Exactly.

This team doesn’t get many layups and compounds that issue by not getting to the line. All in all this offense is extremely inefficient.

YaoPau is right again: Vinny is an anchor for this team

Vinny sucks and that is the most important thing. We can’t develop young talent (TT, Rose, JJ) with that idiot coaching. Just won’t work.

Wouldn't give up on Rose just yet.

He doesn’t have Gordon spacing the floor anymore and for all we know he is still playing on a bad wheel.

Makes me angry when I think what this team could have been with Gordon still here. Is he averaging like 25 a game?

by silentpete on Nov 15, 2009 2:05 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

i agree with this guy

You can rave or rant all you want, but Rose has a butt load of potential. You add star caliber players around him, and he shines. So far, to me, it looks like his ankle is making him second guess himself, which is understandable. I think the coaching decision to get vinny, an inexperienced coach, was just downright awful. But what can you expect from a management who doesnt care about winning? This team will continue to struggle for wins without a “leader” and a “close out player”, some1 who can score under pressure and wants the ball in their hands at the end of games. This team is lacking many things to be a contender, and I gotta say, they have done alot with very little so far. Get new coaching, get a star player, get a big who can score down low or get fouled, and then the team is a contender, until then, we gotta just get by with what we have (or should I say , dont have)…..

Eat. Sleep. Pray. Watch chicago play.

hell yes!

this team is like watching paint dry.

by SoulEater7 on Nov 15, 2009 9:12 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I firmly disagree.

BG is an ISO player. Almost a blackhole. That drove me nuts. Most of the time when he’d get the ball I’d have to start yelling “Pass it to BLANK! He’s open!!!” Sure, BG may score on that play 4 out of 10 times, but IMO BG isn’t the type of player that is fun to watch go ISO all the time. To me, only a great (quick) PG, or a super star is fun to watch that type of play.

Tyrus Thomas; ugh. Exciting to watch? Do you truly watch him without tyrus goggles on? Yes, the man can jump out of the gym. He can make some cool blocks occasionally. However, his basketball game is terrible. I never want him touching the ball unless it is 1) a lob, or 2) he is super wide open around the basket. If he tries to do anything on offense such as dribbling and trying to beat someone, I have to keep myself from hurling either insults or my dinner.

by Mattchoo on Nov 15, 2009 10:06 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

yes arent you glad we no longer have that "black hole"

in gordon, and now have such awesome ball movement leading to nothing but bricked 20 foot jump shots? i will truly never understand the gordon detractors, especially after watching how pathetic this team has been offensively without him. i firmly believe we’d be 8-1 this year if we kept gordon

http://ExtendtheGame.blogspot.com

by Calogero on Nov 15, 2009 10:11 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

We still have a black hole in Salmons.

Furthermore, I think Ben was as much of an ISO player as he was because of the offensive playcalling, or lack thereof. There was no scheme and very little offensive talent around him, so he was forced to jack up a ton of shots. On a team with more skilled offensive players and a sound scheme Ben would be an outstanding player, not that he isn’t very good already. Defensively, a good scheme can mask a bad defender, just look at Cleveland. That defense was excellent last year despite starting Mo Williams and Delonte West.

I like your thoughts here....

but I think Ben’s personality also factored into the ISO. To me it seems he thinks he is the best offensive player on the court any time he plays the game of basketball. This forces him to go ISO more often than needed. That mentality is great if you are indeed a super star or if this is pickup basketball.

by Mattchoo on Nov 15, 2009 12:37 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

All great scorers have that mentality

And i’m not so sure I would disagree with that thought, as we took for granted just how skilled he is. He’s short, so his game is limited, but he’s as good a pure scorer as there is in this league.

Bricked 20 foot jump shots doesn't mean Ben Gordon is/was the answer.

I have never said we don’t need other players to be championship caliber, but letting Ben Gordon was one of the smarter things to do in order to get to that championship level.

I definitely don’t agree with your take on the record. With Gordon we are 4-5 AT BEST. Basketball is such a team sport and so many forget that. Gordon on the court changes how the game flows. This year we are all about team defense. That is where all of our effort and energy is being used on the court. The 2nd half of last year (to me) seemed like it was score as fast and often as possible because we know we can’t play adequate enough defense with a lineup of Rose/Gordon/Salmons/Tyrus/Noah.

by Mattchoo on Nov 15, 2009 12:33 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I think it was because we switched on everything

We had times in the playoffs where Gordon was switched onto Perkins. It was pretty comical, but I don’t think the scheme made for great D.

and Gordon held his arms up in the post like he always does, not moving … and his arms didn’t come up to Perkins’ face.
I’m telling you, it was hilarious. Maybe the second-most-remembered part of the playoffs, minus game 6 and all.

The craziest part of the scheme

was that Boston clearly was looking to create mismatches by forcing switches, and Vinny’s scheme gave them exactly what they wanted. It showed a fundamental misunderstanding of personnel by Vinny. I mean, who in their right mind could have looked at last year’s roster and thought that it was versatile enough to play that type or defense?

I detect sarcasm :)

I don’t like judging a team by how many points they score, and your comment brings the connotation of the offensive part of basketball.

I do think not having Gordon has made the defensive side of the game easier for the team.

Looking at last year’s stats to this year’s: we don’t score as much as a team, but we also don’t let the other team score as much.

Nonetheless, we still need to wait and see with this team. Can they keep up this overall play the whole season? I don’t know. Defense takes a lot more effort to play than offense.

by Mattchoo on Nov 15, 2009 12:50 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Ben is a weapon that is a positive for the team. Defense is only part of the game, the most important part…but you have to score. We have lost games this year because we couldn’t buy a shot. The Bulls were a top 10 defensive team before with Ben getting major minutes. So I don’t buy that argument. The NBA has lots of roles. Some are defensive specialists, some are distributors, some are scorers, very few have total all around game. Every team has a designated scorer, we had one and it kinda sucks that we don’t have one anymore. Also how is Salmons any better…his D sucks, he is just as much of a “ballhog” but at least BG hit the shots instead of a million jab step and a brick.

by C Smoove on Nov 15, 2009 1:12 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Is the defensive improvement because Ben isn't on the team?

by silentpete on Nov 15, 2009 6:02 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Because the whole team doesn’t switch on every screen anymore. That’s the main reason. Last year we kept switching, which caused a mismatch every time.

So much negativity...

I don’t agree with any of you regarding hating the team. This team actually hustles, plays defense, and has a team offense. I’ve enjoyed that part of their game very much.

As far as the Bulls talent in general, we are one super star away from being a contender for the ECF, and then from that, one additional supporting star from being a contender for the NBA Finals. Take this current team and put Wade or Kobe on our team. That instantly pushes us close to Celtics level. It is obvious to me that the management sees this too. That is why we are set up to make a run at a star this offseason, and also have pieces that we can trade during this season to get one.

by Mattchoo on Nov 15, 2009 9:59 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

you could say that about any team

every team in the league is one superstar and one additional supporting star away from being a contender.

http://ExtendtheGame.blogspot.com

by Calogero on Nov 15, 2009 10:12 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

But not all of them have that potential

Rose can be the supporting star, and only a handful of teams in this league have any player with the potential Rose has.

by Stacey_Is_King on Nov 15, 2009 10:18 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Well....

my point is that the Bulls don’t have a superstar, yet they could finish as high as 4th in the east this year. Whereas you have teams like Cleveland, Miami, Orlando, and Toronto, who I think will be the main competitors in the Bulls playoff spot this year, that all have one superstar.

I’ve always maintained the belief that our core the last 5 years was Deng/Hinrich/Gordon/Noce. The past two years we’ve been able to make moves to make the core Deng/Hinrich/Noah/Rose. Insert one superstar and we are potential ECF team. Insert a second fiddle and we are NBA finals for sure.

My in season move this year is to trade Tyrus and filler for Boozer. Then hopefully we can sign Wade.

R u kidding, blame on Rose

I sit here watching game after game where he is on the floor with all these non athletic, players, heinrich, miller, deng, salmons, and you wonder how mix-matched is this, lord give me a break. In order for his skills to be appreciated get some atheletes that at least come close to him, then you will see some modern style basketball, you can only do so much creativity with this cast.Let for a minute imagine him with Wade or Lebron, different ballgame, I blame this on the coach who Knows nothing about matching personnel or recognizing talent. We are lucky to have Rose, ask Miami would they like to have him.

Things that are good so far

Noah is beasting….the league leader in rebounds…averaging 12/12 which are All-star number for a center.

Deng is playing really well, 17/9 is pretty damn good, I wish he would be able to hit 3s but his D has improved and he’s rebounding like a PF from the SF spot.

Everything else has been garbage.

Kirk finally has a decent game. Salmons wasn’t total trash. Rose is too passive, I know he’s hurt but still 3 assists compared to 7 assists is awful. Lou Williams played the point better than him. Lou is a good player but has never been known as a great passer.

Derrick has to get his head in the game, even if he is only 80%, that’s no excuse. To be a star, you need the mentality of knowing and properly using your greatness. He just floats out there, no intensity or anything. I still think he will be great but as of now Jennings may make the All-star game before D Rose. Bet the Knicks feel real stupid right now taking Jordan Hill

Overall I’m optimistic, we’re 5-4 so far which isn’t bad and this is while two of our players are going thru a HORRIBLE slump. Salmons and Kirk gotta get it together and Tyrus needs to come back cause Taj is not a starter.

honestly

i will only hate john salmons if he remains a bull by the offseason…if he isnt opting out, he should tell the organization now so we can trade him…i dont mind him so much right now, missing shots is bad and he should be attacking the rim…but this season doesnt matter much to me….however john salmons HAS to be off this team so we can sign some free agents….if he gets in the way of that…man ill hate his @$$

no way he is opting out

better trade him now…for anything.

by diedaily23 on Nov 15, 2009 1:28 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

we should figure out a way

to trade him for a shooter…and deal with their defensive liabilities. The way Joakim is playing inside I think we can get away with it and it would help our offense so much…I am too lazy to look up who we could get but I’m thinking of a JJ Redick/Kapono type or go big for a James Harden if we can find a way to offer something good for him..

John Salmons sucks.

Whew! Good to get that off my chest for this year.

That's my main frustration right now, too.

And I see myself getting annoyed with the bloated JJ, knowing how we could have had so many other players at #16 who are actually producing for other winning teams at this point. He just looks terrible out there…

I mean what is supposed to do.

I am sick and tired of watching Miller play in slo-mo, Kirk dribbling and dribbling and dribbling, Salmons standing next to Rose and not giving up the ball, even with the Jordan this still is a mess.

i disagree

with that last part…with jordan this team is contending…we have the talent we just dont have the IT player…jordan was the ultimate IT….he is THE IT

Triple teamed

Let us make no mistake about the importance of Scott Pippen, his athleticism completely complimented his airness, without that element no Bulls success, look at current roster and you won’t find one player that comes close, hence the argument for Rose stands, give him some atheletes and let’s see what happens, ala D. Wade or for that matter a Lebron, a good example is, look at C. Paul w/o Chandler offense died.

by sugarbear06 on Nov 15, 2009 1:26 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

The Hornets offense died because

West isn’t shooting Well, Okafor is not really an offensive minded player, and their starting 2 and 3 guards shouldn’t be in the NBA. And they sure as hell shouldn’t be starting.

this thread is well-represented by some old friends: denial, bargaining and anger are all here.

im pretty ensconced in anger. this years bulls games remind me of college basketball, and for that i hate this team. every game is identical, identical in its ugliness, in its inelegance, identical in forcing me to realize that while this team needs to change offensively, as long as their record indicates they are at least an average team nothing will happen. going into this season i agreed with fundamental that 6-9 would be a sweet start. the bulls will likely exceed that, but its been so joyless and frustrating… i genuinely wish i didnt care. p.s.- derrick could change this all by himself. thatd be nice.

"What is going on up here?"
"I never know, man."

seriously. zero FTA is unacceptable

love the kid, still thinking he’s gonna turn it around, but a player like him should be getting ten free throws a game. if he’s gonna turn it over seven times i’d rather see those coming as a result of aggressive drives as opposed to sloppy passes.

The Bulls are awesome.

I guess I’m just being simple minded… every team is gonna have flaws but I love this Bulls team.

Rose is decent right now. Miller is awesome. Deng is a awesome. Salmons is sucking but he will come around. Noah is God. Hinrich is a hound. Losing Thomas sucks but Gibson seems to have waaaay more Basketball IQ that him…

People need to have patience. Its only like 9ish games into the season.

by 420man! on Nov 15, 2009 4:07 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I love this team, too

I have a soft spot for scrappy, hard working teams anyway, and I’ve enjoyed how they’ve stuck together. I like seeing JJ up cheering and smiling when a teammate does something good, even when he’s barely playing. I love how intense Jo is, and how much he’s playing within himself. I love that Lu is healthy and playing well. I love that Kirk avoided the mopey Iowan when his shot wasn’t falling and kept at it defensively and running the team when Derrick was out. And, even though the short rotation is scary long-term, I’m pretty happy that Vinny isn’t forcing PT for bench guys right now.

They’ve done better against this opening stretch than pretty much anyone was predicting before the season started.

Just waiting on some offense....

I Don't Hate this team, I just don't like the Bulls any longer..

I’m feeling good now because the Jordan-Pippen era is completely out of my system and I have no more expectations for this organization other than pre-Jordan basketball.

Aside from that I have no passionate interest in watching an average basketball team (41-41) any longer. I still like to tune in when they play good teams. I enjoyed seeing the fight to win by the Denver team, but also seeing the lowly Bulls at least be competitive and almost win. Brad Miller , Well they should have given it to the bulls, but when I think about Brad Miller as the Bulls go-to guy in final minutes I just cringle again with averageness! Time commitments and financially I have no interests especially in this economy to support averageness.

The players are ok, yet I’m spoiled by the greatness of witnessing 6 previous NBA championships. Think about it that it not something many people have the opportunity to witness as a somewhat intelligent basketball fan.

"I tried being reasonable, I didn't like it."
"Go ahead, make my day"
"We boil at different degrees"
"A good man always knows his limitations"
"You've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya punk?"

People are a little too pessimistic. I agree the offense is ugly as hell to watch. But it’s cool to see everyone trying hard and scrapping, there was a lack of effort for the last 2 years.

That being said, I wonder where all the Salmons fans are now. Last year everyone was all on his jock. I knew it was a fluke…how do you magically get better after 7-8 years in the league. Trade him for some basketball.

by C Smoove on Nov 15, 2009 6:32 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Sorry but he got better because he got playing time

18+ points a game with 40% 3pt shooting. Those first years he was 9-10th man off the bench.

Having said that, he’s been atrocious these first games. I wonder if his new baby and wife are doing ok? Any reports out there?

he was injured in the last preseason game and was supposed to miss six weeks, so i’m guessing early december. i haven’t heard an update since the injury though.

I don't hate the Bulls.

The have, however, gone from ‘My favorite team! Yay!’ to ‘Meh, I like this big list of teams that the Bulls are on!’ status, though.
We’re not gonna win a championship for a long time [or until we luck into another MJ … loooooong time].
Go Bucks, though. Yeah, they won’t win a championship, but Jennings is … fun to watch. It’s like our team, only with a dynamic pass-first PG with swagger!

:(

I support the Tornado Release ... and Young Bucks.
