Looks like the NOLA fire sale has begun now that CP3 is out for a month. Think we can get David West on the cheap?

David West is a bargain at $9M

He also had a front loaded contract, so its only $8.2M next year…The only problem I see is that we don’t have anyone they would want…

Why isn't your friendly Bulls Blogger friendly?

Tyrus + Salmons?

Two players who aren’t guaranteed to be on the payroll after this season, plus a chance to see if Paul can turn Tyrus in Tyson2.0.

Maybe Tyrus + Jerome James for the definite cap relief

What don't you like about West? Is it just the 2010 implications?

1. Cut a hole in a box
2. Put your Kirk in that box
3. Make some team open that box

He definitely isn't worth risking flexibility on.

His performance is trending downward, and he was never that good to begin with. I’d rather just keep Tyrus.

I think West is a better fit than the other Grade B big guys

like Amare or Boozer. He’s got a more complete post game than Amare, and he’s the only one that’s good defensively. Fitwise, he’s great with Rose and Noah.

by YaoPau on Nov 15, 2009 12:20 AM CST up reply actions

Yeah, I like West's fit in terms of how he plays and his salary much better than

Amare or Boozer. Amare would be a monster on the pick and roll with Derrick, but he’s not very good defensively or on the boards and he’s gonna want a max deal. West probably gives you most of Amare’s impact at a much cheaper price.

Except those guys wouldn't ruin any flexibility

West just doesn’t seem like the final piece of the puzzle, and even though his salary is relatively reasonable, it would still stop us from adding any other major piece.

This is all assuming we would be trading an expiring. I would trade Kirk for him, obviously.

by JeffD on Nov 15, 2009 10:19 AM CST up reply actions

They wouldn't?

Assuming we can’t get any of them for Hinrich + Tyrus, all three take away our flexibility. Unless you’re thinking of trading for Amare/Boozer and then releasing them after the season.

by YaoPau on Nov 15, 2009 11:59 AM CST up reply actions

They could wait until they had someone ready to sign

and then renounce their rights.

I don’t particularly want to trade for either of those guys, but I would rather it be them than West.

by JeffD on Nov 15, 2009 12:54 PM CST up reply actions

I think he's thinking of trading for those players this season.

You can renounce them to get Wade, Bosh, James, if you were able. You couldn’t do that with West.

People should remember that while they have the right to their opinion, they are not entitled to be taken seriously. --Bruce Bartlett

I would prefer someone at PF who could rebound a little better.

I haven’t watched the Hornets since last year, so I’m actually blanking on West’s style of play. Always thought he reminded me of Deng with an aversion to the paint, lots of jumpshots, etc.

The 2009 White Sox....like a 40 degree day.

by Ozzie Montana on Nov 15, 2009 12:39 PM CST up reply actions

are you sure west is a good defender? because he looks pretty awful when i watch him.

i dont like him much. plus he scores/rebounds like LMA (not a compliment).

"What is going on up here?"
"I never know, man."

by TheMoon on Nov 15, 2009 1:59 PM CST up reply actions

Exactly. A mediocre defender, average rebounder. Just like LMA, scores most of his points from 15 ft jumpers. At this point, is he really better than Deng. I’d rather have Deng….better defense, same scoring potential and better rebounding. Same injury report but at least Deng isn’t almost 30.

by C Smoove on Nov 15, 2009 6:50 PM CST up reply actions

APM shows he's average defensively for a PF

which is more than can be said for Amare or Boozer. Rebounding-wise, it’s hard to say. He’s been playing next to Chandler the past few years, and it’s hard to beat him out for boards. Comparatively, Boozer’s played next to Okur, and on a faster paced team. Look how Amare’s boards dropped when Shaq came aboard.

I wouldn’t trade Deng for West. I was thinking Salmons and Tyrus could get it done given the Kenny Thomas for Okafor deal.

by YaoPau on Nov 16, 2009 4:21 AM CST up reply actions

I could live with West

bottom line Tyrus and Taj are not going to cut it. Dammit Gar and Pax when was the last time the Bulls had a big man scoring threat? Curry and Brand, we need a big man who score the ball period. I don’t understand some people on this blog, we need to get a good PF now to have any hope of landing Wade or Joe Johnson come 2010.

also

west can hit the open shot on a pick and roll scenario which is perfect with Rose. Hopefully New Orleans is trading for salary cap space. Then Tyrus + Jerome James should be sufficent. West is still cheap enough for the bulls to get another STAR player like Dwade or Joe Johnson in the offseason; esp if his next year contract is 8.2 mil. i’d LOVE this trade.

by K_yle33 on Nov 15, 2009 10:22 AM CST reply actions

West is alright. He’s a faceup undersized PF who mainly hit jumpers and can post up a little bit. His contract is reasonable so I would take a flyer on him even though he is injury prone and relatively overrated.
