If you are going to take it in against defenders you have to do it way stronger than that.

Brad Miller can pass, sure, but Vinny forgets Miller can throw some terrible turnovers in stretches too and that’s when he should sit…

but why you’d try to make it harder for yourself in a winnable game like this one I have no idea. Some needs to tweet Vinny and ask him where his starters went.

Hell Yes too

Beasley might have had a double double, but he got creamed on the other end and had a lot of silly turnovers that helped us stay in this rather anemic game….

Rose’s stats weren’t Rose-esque, but he is playing better defense and well had a lot of shots that just kept rimming out…

Still if he’s hurt, sit him to heal…why risk injuring further this early in the year with Hinrich looking 100% again.

So his quite style of play really

changes the tone of the game, rallies his teammates around him, gets him to the foul line, makes the game winning shot, never gives up, works on his game so he can be the best (3pt shooting, post movies, taking guys in isolation)? Are we jotting this down for a future date because that isn’t Deng.

Exactly

Bulls have talent and depth at every position. Pistons have O firepower, good 2 guards, a good SF who’s maybe not quite what he was and wasn’t far past leage avg at best, and huge holes at the 4/5 with a D less 4 who would work well with a power C inside that they don’t have….

that is stupid

it wasnt because no one else could draw a double team, the heat dont have anyone but wade to draw a double team, simply put miami was daring rose to take a shot, and he was missin git, he attacked they collapsed. Double teaming someone else wouldnt have changed much….instead if tyrus had played maybe haslem wouldnt have gotten so damn crazy….WTF i blame negro, not the lack of ben gordon…

Haslem was wide opened

half the freakin time!!!! and you said it, if they had anyone on this team hitting, not double teamed, but just hitting, htey wouldnt have had a problem, but rose didnt miss his shots because no one else is being double teamed….he missed cuz he settled on jumpers early and missed them, and then when he attacked he either got no call or just couldnt finish like he usually does….my thought is body fatigue…not double team…

They can’t score inside. They can’t score from mid-range, they can’t score from outside. They can’t defend, they can’t rebound. Exactly why were people expecting 50 wins? Oh right, because Rose is supposed to be Chris Paul good already.

He's really far away from Rondo

Rose is still an awful defender, while Rondo is actually good at it.

Plus Rose’s offensive game hasn’t improved at all from last season. I think you can lay that on the coach. Running an iso for Rose would be positively innovative given the way VDN has used him so far.

Rose's

D has looked far better so far in the 2 games I saw this year….

He’s not as good as Rondo yet, but while the O isn’t happening I can see that he’s gotten better defensively.

Noah is forced to be the lone force on the boards

There is no great perimeter shooter yet Vinny tries to win games with a small lineup. The small lineup isn’t even particularly fast with Deng and Salmons. Vinny’s got his hands full trying to get wins with these rotations.

VDN decides to bench Tyrus and play Hinrich for almost the entire 2nd half with the rationale that Hinrich guards Wade well and we can’t lose the scoring of Deng or Salmons. I guess that makes sense other than the fact that Haslem torched us with Deng playing PF and our best lineup (that twice pushed the lead to 5) only played together for about 10 total minutes

i'm so much happier since i haven't been reading the game threads

- Rose is rusty and out of shape. He will play better. I’m not going to debate it

- Deng looked really good. I thought Del Negro sat him too long in the 4th.

- Tyrus needs minutes. He was playing okay ball. You got to leave him out there.

- Salmons had a bounce back game.

No one else really did anything of note. Tough early season game. The Bulls are bad on the road, especially at closing games. We’ll get a win against Milwaukee, and the sun will shine again

I’d say for today:
1) Deng
2) Salmons
3) Hinrich
4) Noah
5) Tyrus—though we didn’t see him??? and he seemed like he was getting it going when he sat for the entire rest of the game.

Bulls have no real threat down the stretch...or so it seems.

This is where the Bulls miss Gordon becomes and it’s very evident. Nobody on this roster was threatening down the stretch…and that includes Derrick Rose.

Damn good games by Deng and Salmons, BUT they must do this on a regular basis and not just from time to time.

I really am leaning toward believing that Vinne Del Negro cannot be Derrick Rose’s coach much longer. Rose really needs a coach that pushes and VDN doesn’t strike me as that guy.

2nd quarter doesn't matter when the score is tied with 4 minutes to go in the game.

It’s called “winning time” and you need closers in times like that. D-Wade facilitated and participated in the dismantling of the Bulls down the stretch. Every good team has someone filling a role like that.

Last year it was our defense and front court problems

that kept us from winning a lot of games down the stretch of the 4th quarter. This year our offense is off and the defense has bad lapses, especially with 3pt shooters. Something every team in the league will have against us and will kill us in the 4th quarter.

gibson : 17:10

ugh!! Del Coacho strikes again.

Tyrus sits the last 18 minutes. and we really needed some athleticism in the middle late in the game, really needed a stop. Tyrus coulda helped with that. he was playing well inthe first half. i was even debating who you sit cuz Kirt was sticking Wade pretty well, Deng and Salmons were the only ones scoring, and Vinny would get killed if he sat Rose down at the end, despite Rose only finishing with 8 points.

again, UGH!!!

hinrich

was doing a fantastic job on wade. it shoulda been enough of a plus to garner a win.

salmons also played him well, other than one glaring pump fake. deng missed 4 of his last 5, but i like that he was shooting and that the majority were good shots (one was the blown layup, when he was possibly looking for contact as much as the basket).

to me, the questions are pargo (6 minutes, and one nice assist to noah) and gibson (4 rebs). while pargo was -4 and gibson -5, miller was -8 in his 24+, and isn’t a great match for the heat, unless he’s on o’neal.

seriously, tyrus has looked as solid as anybody so far. he was only 1-4, but the only questionable thing i saw from him this game: once when the bulls unexpectedly came up with a loose ball in the corner, tyrus didn’t move to the ball, didn’t take advantage of the scrambled situation.

the name of the team is The DIAMONDBACKS

by marionette on Nov 1, 2009 8:36 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

the stretch that really killed us, IMO

was in the second half when Pargo came in and Arroyo (from FIUuuuuu!!) victimized him. i kept looking at the clock tick and it allowed the Heat to keep Wade on the bench. i thought we shoulda taken advantage during that stretch. they could never pull away. i felt that was a when they shoukda made a run. Pargo=fail.

and they were just swarming to Salmons in the 4th. i’m pretty sure they made sure not to let him abuse them again like last year. he shoulda been schooling that scrub Richardson.

i dunno whats up with Rose. i don’t think he’s still hurt, but he’s just not being aggressive enough. i dunno who to put it on: the coaches or him (whether he’s hurt or just shys away).

You can’t trust TT with more minutes. He doesn’t rebound or box out, jumps at every shot fake, floats around on defense, and doesn’t run up and down the court, lazily jogs back on D. Not to mentions the ill-timed jumpers and wild, mad drives to the bucket, where he tosses a no look left handed shot.

Come on people, he’s too damn inconsistent to trust with more minutes. Watch Taj on defense, not a single misstep, always looking at his man and the ball AT THE SAME TIME. Showing properly on screen roll, and then recovering.

Tyrus had 6 boards in 21 minutes of play. He shut Beasley down. This stuff some of you say about Tyrus is no longer effective arguments. The man can play ball. i agree

perhaps Tyrus being an emotional player, which probably contributes to his ups and downs, but it just seems like its more active out there when he’s on the floor, both offensively and defensively. loose balls, weak side blocks, things happen when he’s in there.

i’ve never been super supportive of TT because he has frustrated at times, but so far thru 3 games, he’s been probably our best player, or Deng (who’s been putting up decent points).

the sad thing is if i had to put one of the 5 that played the chunk down the stretch to the bench for TT, it would been Rose. says a lot about the game he had. with this foot thing and all, i hope not, but i can see him being set up for a sophomore slump.

Its because you can’t trust him. A coach wants consistency.

Are you serious? TT is a big shot maker? hahahah! The 1 Boston game out of 300? Please.

tyrus has 244 career games played

101 games started. that includes the playoffs.

i doubt he has been on court at the final buzzer in 60 of them.

the name of the team is The DIAMONDBACKS

by marionette on Nov 1, 2009 8:40 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Then pull him when he does that stuff.

Don’t pull him because he has a reputation of doing stuff like that. You don’t play them based on how they played before, you do it based on how they’re doing in that game. Tyrus has been rebounding, has been a good blocker, is staying on his man, is getting up and down the court, getting back on D, and taking good shots,

Things could be worse. We could have kept Boylan.

by stupidgenius on Nov 2, 2009 5:57 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I only saw some of the first quarter.

Besides Deng’s first shot attempt (terrible shot) he was looked good, with a mixture of long but open jumpers where he could actually plant his feet, and some driving to the hoop where his length seemed to bother Richardson.

Salmons looks like he had a decent offensive game, everybody still calling for his head?

Miller had three 3-point attempts, really?

How did Rose look? Was he actually driving to the hole (looked like he started to a bit more in the 1st)?

Tyrus, 6 boards and 3 blocks but only 21 minutes?

Jermaine O’Neal looked very sharp in the 1st quarter, but it looks like he fizzed out (8 points).

How’d we look overall? Mixture of games 1 and 2 or more like game 2?

by RyPac13 on Nov 1, 2009 8:37 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Well if you read the game thread, Rose sucked

but imo, he played worse in Boston. He just didn’t hit shots tonight (and was fouled a couple of times with no call, but we should be used to that). He could have a couple more assists if guys hit shots, but you could say that about any point guard. The main thing is he lacks explosion and looks unsure when going to the basket. There were a number of times he beat the initial defender only to fall back and fade away on a floater or jumper. he needs to take those in to the hoop, draw contact and get fouled. And if he doesn’t know that, someone (VDN, Hunter, Randy Brown) needs to tell him that.

by Basketball Smurf on Nov 1, 2009 8:46 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

His lack of explosion

might be because his ankle is still hurting him. As it heals he’ll be able to do more.

Rose.

Really rough game for him… bad decisions all night, he didn’t seem to want the ball for a lot of it. Didn’t set people up well, and there were a few times were he had beat the defender and went up for a layup with a good look at the basket, only to dish it off. Most of the times the people he dished to weren’t ready to shoot, or shooters at all.

Hey so

I’ve been out of here on vacation and sadly only was able to watch the thumping by the Celtics and then got back today in time to watch this frustrating mess of a game….

But I wonder what happened to Tyrus? I mean sure he was quiet in the first half, but when we had our little run in the 3rd, Tyrus was doing a few little things……and then I never saw him again…….and if Vinny was trying to blame Tyrus for Haslem it didn’t work cuz Haslem just had it today…..frustrating that it was Haslem, but I did like how the Bulls D after Q1 said, buckle down on Wade and let someone else beat us….sadly it was Haslem….

Salmons looks more selfish than BG….which is why he is a 3….but oh well if Deng keeps up this play of today so be it….

What’s with Rose? He’s looked totally ordinary….how bad is the ankle injury anyway? I didn’t see it happen….but if he’s gonna look sluggish for him and lose some confidence, we should sit Rose to heal a bit more and just use HInrich….

Frustrating….but I haven’t yet watched enough, so let me know what happened from you Bulls fans like me….thanks.

The problem is that this team has little margin for error

It’s the third game of the season, and we’re already down to an 8 man rotation (the 9th man, Pargo, only played 6 minutes tonight). I generally prefer shorter rotations because it makes it harder for Vinny to screw up, but there’s no way in hell we can possibly get through the season playing that few people. If a guard goes down (and Rose looks nowhere close to 100%), Pargo is all of a sudden your third guard, and Lindsey Hunter your fourth guard. In other words, they won’t be able to compete. This team can win if everyone plays well, like against the Spurs, but when one or two guys are struggling there’s nowhere else to turn.

wasn't D. Rose better than OJ Mayo over the entire season last year

Any time a young guard have a good game, are you going to run here and post something about it? He had 9 pts in his 1st game, why didn’t you do a write up than?

by Basketball Smurf on Nov 1, 2009 9:39 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I'd still take Rose over Mayo in a heartbeat, and actually, I wrote that being semi humorous

You seem to be under the impression that I’m some sort of flip flopper that just talks out of his ass according to that days game. That can be true from time to time, but I think that overall I’ve been incredibly consistant with my opinion on Rose. I like him a ton, I root for him like crazy, but I have had/do have concerns about his potential as a great player. I’ve been saying it for a long time and I’m gonna keep saying it. I really don’t understand why mine/others opinion on the subject bothers you so much…

I don't think you are a flip-flopper at all. You are very consistent

You are too consistent. You just keep posting the same thing over and over. We get it, Rose is playing bad right now and you are concerned. Do you have any other thing to say? Do you have any ideas of how he can play better? Do you have any ideas of why he is struggling (besides not having the “Dog” within him? Are you capable of advancing the conversation at all?

by Basketball Smurf on Nov 1, 2009 9:56 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I don't think I've ever said that he didn't have "the dog" in my life.

You’re just taking one or two things and being totally overdramatic. I discuss areas that he needs to improve, how other players fit with him, and other shit all the time. I have no clue what you’re talking about. Sorry if I spend a little too much time talking on a Bulls blog about basically the only important person in the entire franchise.

And when you asked if Rose was better, the answer is yes, but it's not like they were

in totally different leagues. Rose was marginally better, on a better team, at a more valuable position, but statistically speaking they weren’t that far apart.

Westbrook had 23 points

but only 2 assists and NINE turnovers. At least Derrick takes care of the ball for the most part.

looks pretty healthy, had a FULL PRESEASON & TRAING CAMP!, Rose no PRESEASON or TRAINING CAMP, its tough to ask any player to hop out of the bed out of basketball shape, play 30 minutes at a high level. and produce

Well, we didn’t get blown out and Deng and Salmons had decent games. That’s a start right?

Whenever you let the opponent dictate the tempo you are in trouble.

The Heat play ‘Riley Ball’, aka slow, boring, half court shit where you let your best player run pretty much everything on every play which sometimes allow very mediocre offensive players like Udonis Haslem to kill you with wide open jumpers. And that’s exactly what happened in today’s game. It was an insanely close, hard fought, but painfully sloppy game to watch. I swear I saw John Starks out there on a few plays.

The Bulls could not do anything to get them to loosen up and speed up the tempo. Whenever a team can collapse the lane like that you better have your 3 point shooters ready. Unfortunately the Bulls best 3 point shooter last year is in Detroit rolling around in his huge pile of money while most likely realizing he’ll never win another playoff game for a good 5 years. Bulls shot a very ugly 2/12 from downtown and a general pathetic 41% overall. At least Luol Deng and John Salmons showed up (26 and 17 respectively). Deng even had some nice fade aways thrown in there for good measure.

But you know who really didn’t play well? Our point guards! Kirk Hinrich played 33 minutes with 7 points and Derrick Rose had a paltry 8 points in 35 minutes. It was bad, insanely fucking bad. I’m sorry, but you can’t let douche annoying defensive players like Mario Chalmers dictate the pace like that. And if you are ever to be a hall of famer, or shit, even semi decent all star, you can not be letting Carlos fucking Arroyo light you up for 12 points in 16 minutes off the bench. I know Rose has an excuse, tons of practice time missed and probably about 80 percent athleticism, but still. Rose has to be accountable for this performance, and knowing Rose, he is taking this very hard.

And as far as Vinny, what the fuck is going on between him and Tyrus? It be really easy to berate Del negro for not playing Tyrus the entire fourth quarter, but at least tell us why. I am really starting to worry about Tyrus because every coach the Bulls have had has had problems with Thomas. This can not be a coincidence.

Luckily, the Bulls finally come home on Tuesday to play the Bucks and their old coach Scotty Skiles. This on the surface seems like a piece of cake, but the Bucks are coming off a nice win and Jennings looks to be quick as lightning. It be a good test to see how well the Bulls can come back after two tough losses.
