Tribune

Can the Tribune cool it with the DWade to the Bulls stories at this point? After two games into the 09-10 season, the last thing I want to read about right now is the potential free-agent signing of DWade next year.. I know this season is about making the team into a contender for next year but it still feels premature to speculate about what could be next season. If they don't get DWade or Bosh next year does that automatically qualify that season as a bust? If so, should I have little to no hope for the future of this franchise?

yeah that was so bold I didn't even wanna read it.

I have noticed the Wade to Bulls talk getting a bit over hyped.

On the other hand

if you thought Paxdorf actually had a strategy for 2010, you could argue that the real reason they let Gordon walk was to make room in the backcourt for Wade. Then trade Tyrus and Deng for Bosh, move Salmons back to SF and voila, instant contenders.

haha and maybe bring back MJ off the bench and snag the #1 pick in the draft…

I think that actually would work

of course, we’d probably have to throw in a 1st rounder (maybe 2) and a 2nd rounder to convince Toronto to do this. Then it also begs the question, will we have enough cap room to sign Wade next summer without Tyrus’ contract coming off the books? And with Bosh’s new deal?

Miller and Jerome James equal about 18 mil in expiring contracts, but with the shrinking cap I’m not really sure that’s enough. And if Salmons opts out, who’s going to play the SF spot? James Johnson?

I’d still do it in a heartbeat; but it’s definitely risky.

The answer to your question:

Yes, yes you should have no hope at all. Without another star (or 2) this team has no chance of being title contenders for the foreseeable future.

1. Cut a hole in a box
2. Put your Kirk in that box
3. Make some team open that box

We aren’t getting Wade or Bosh. It’s gonna be a2nd tier guy like Joe Johnson. We aren’t winning a title for another 6-10 years at best.
