Around SBN: Bracketology 2012: Duke Finally Steps Up To The No. 1 Line

Not that we didn't know he could score, but BG lit it up against Skiles and the Bucks. Four for five from downtown.

Will Bynum put some points up too. I wonder if they'll handle their "guard glut" better than the Bulls...

I want to put it with the DeJuan Blair section.

I do like how EVERYONE (K.C., Sam-the-sham, a zillion BaB'ers)...

…said Gordon hated coming off of the bench and would never really accept that role except that he did, and even though inferior players started ahead of him he still never bitched to the media or anything.

ha!

this actually did get me down. Seeing it makes the pain feel fresh right in the side of the face where the Bulls slapped me in July. Pieces of shit.

5 TOs but +21

I know people have their complaints about him, but the guy is a great tool to have in the toolbox and while he isn’t always hot he is hot very often. A smart coach can figure out how to use him as a positive. Glad to see he is doing well off the bench for Detroit.

Yeah

and if he gets to the FT line a lot he may average a career high in PPG.

He got a slam too.

Shame he want to the Pistons. When I was watching the highlights I definitely got the feeling it will be really hard to watch him in the future. Just hate the sight of those uniforms.

that slam was pretty weak though.

Big Ben also got a put back slam.

true, it sucks bad enough that he's gone.

but being on the pistons is the real mindfu*ker. if he was, say, a hornet or something, i’d still be rooting for him. i’m still having trouble reconciling rooting against Reinsdorf but for the team he owns. i don’t wish death on anyone, but maybe some Steinbrenner-esque dementia that forces him to give up the team?

by M 80 on Oct 8, 2009 1:59 PM CDT up reply actions

Will Bynum seems to keep getting better

Just watched some highlights of it maybe its also because he can be the official back up this time. I almost forgot about him but I like a few of their players on that team that I hadn’t thought about. Like that Daye guy I like that pick up wonder if he can shoot.

by Camry on Oct 8, 2009 4:14 AM CDT reply actions

Looks like he was being guarded by Redd and Meeks

Good luck to Ben, I hope he does well, but he always torched crappy defenders.

by YaoPau on Oct 8, 2009 8:35 AM CDT reply actions

whoa

for some reason I thought Redd was out for a few weeks still. Yet another team better than us? nah. Skiles effect though…

I doubt it

They lost Jefferson, Villanueva, and Sessions. How will they score?

Off-topic sidenote: I just saw Memphis has Iverson AND Randolph. To complement Rudy and Mayo! Chances they bring in VDN to teach them isolation offense?

by YaoPau on Oct 8, 2009 10:12 AM CDT up reply actions

I've been told that ball movement, happiness, and chemistry replace scoring

so the Bucks should have no problems. :)

Redd always used to tourch BG for 40 point games though

and he was pretty terrible this game. Could it be Ben’s defense has also improved? Or is it just rust after extended injury?

by Diz on Oct 8, 2009 10:44 AM CDT up reply actions

i'd be surprised

if he was matched up against redd too much since he only played 20 min, and so i assume the majority of them were starters minutes vs rip.

and did little

it’ll be a sad reality for Rip when he realizes his backup is better than him. Maybe he can ask Chris Duhon what it was like.

oh, i'm not saying

that rip was/is better than he is. though rip’s defense i’d still think is better.

but i figured that redd was matched up most of the time with rip, thus nulling any argument about bg vs redd.

Doesn't Redd do that against tall SGs too though?

That’s Redd’s game.

More stuff from that game...

Looks like the noobie refs really sucked it up. I hope that isn’t how it will be in the future.

Same ol Ben….raining 3s and rackin up TOs

To be honest at this point, he is better than Rip. Rip is bad on D too but he looks like he’s trying harder so ppl think he’s a good defender. He’s not.

I can see Ben averaging 22-24 pts this year easily.

by C Smoove on Oct 8, 2009 3:25 PM CDT reply actions

killed us in the playoffs. Oh wait…

are going to give most 2nd units fits.

by bigballa10 on Oct 8, 2009 5:40 PM CDT reply actions

definitely, though I wouldn't be surprised to see BG taking over the starting spot

nothing against Rip, but that team is going to need some scoring, and I don’t see Tayshaun Prince, Villanueava, or Kwame Brown helping much there.

by darksmokepuncher on Oct 8, 2009 5:54 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah

Charlie can score but I think Prince may reemerge this year with an offensive minded coach. The team has never really had that much offensive fire power as they do now to me. They were probably balanced around 04 and 05 really well.

Anyway BG is definitively the better player at this point. He may even have been for 2 years now to me. But I guess they can just take some of Rips minutes because he doesn’t seem to do well off the bench. He relies a lot more on other players to get off.

by Camry on Oct 9, 2009 4:33 AM CDT up reply actions

Villanueva's offense is overrated

He put up decent numbers last year because both Redd and Bogut were hurt. He’s nothing more than an average jump-shooter.

by darksmokepuncher on Oct 9, 2009 8:24 AM CDT up reply actions

That sounds good to me

I don’t think he even averaged 30 minutes last season. They probably need like 16-18 a game from him I would think.

by Camry on Oct 9, 2009 9:31 AM CDT up reply actions

I’m sure his numbers increased but he’s always been able to score decently. Can’t D up, not a good rebounder but he can definitely put up 16-19 this year.

by C Smoove on Oct 9, 2009 9:33 AM CDT up reply actions

Villanueva can score. Prince can a little bit. Kwame….he’s not there to even touch the ball offensively.

o wow preseaon aganist the bucks

i think id be more shocked if he didnt play like this
