Oh man, if they extend Tyrus for a cheap-o deal and then pull of a deadline
deal, I will be so happy.

2. Put your Kirk in that box
3. Make some team open that box

well, that's likely what they are trying
which is what they should do.
Doubt Tyrus takes a cheap extension though, which means Reinsdorf now feels slighted and he’ll be gone. Ah well!

So you think they're trying to sign him to trade him?
Or sign him because they want him back on he team?
I've got this thing and it's fucking golden!

they likely only want him at a severe discount
which, like I said, is what they SHOULD be offering. I’m just worried (due to past ‘negotiations’) that they’ll hold it against him later if he doesn’t sign now.

Which 'negotiation(s)' was that?
I think it was only one

Who do you envision them trading for at the deadline?
It looks to me like the only real possibility would be Boozer, possibly Amare. And I’m not so sure it’s worth risking passing up a shot at a guy like Wade for one of those two.

I'd take it.
That shot at Wade is pretty minimal.
Though the Bulls have reportedly already balked at paying Amare the max, and Boozer is even less likely to get that deal.

I do not want Boozer here.
Just resign Tyrus. Try for a FA.

I didn't mean the deal necessarily had to include Tyrus. It could be anybody that gives us more
cap space or one of the 2010 FAs that might get dangled if they look to be leaving (Bosh maybe).

i'm beginning to sympathize with the chicago sports fan
like, if mike (?) north (yet to actually hear him) is a more obnoxious waddle/silvey, and “stupidly” anti-gordon, an emotional, reactionary response in the attitude of the involved fan is understandable. even if not ultimately logical.
Thomas played well at the start of the second half, so he stayed in the game, and Del Negro finished the third quarter with an even bigger lineup of Thomas, Miller and Gibson, with Deng at shooting guard.so when i see this, well i wish i hadn’t. but it is mildly infuriating in it’s stupidness. (all players “play well” at times, and not well at other times.)
my basic stance on tyrus is that he is a level above where josh smith and josh howard are or were, given his amount of career minutes to date. you can cry about his bb iq, but he looks more stable (and i’m not even talkin’ off court!) than those guys, in game. i think a lot of the issue is that a certain fan sees “this guy could do anything he wants to on the court, why doesn’t he?” it’s weird how someone as pessimistic as me will see “the glass half full” re: tyrus. i really don’t see (or foresee) him doing dumber stuff than those two “stars” in the 4th. his rough moments seem to happen the less he plays.
i don’t care if he starts so much as that he’s in the 7 man rotation, getting 30+, and that he gets his chances to help the team at the end of games. because the thing (or one of the things) that infuriates people about him most i see as a plus, especially with this current lineup. he’s like the anti-hinrich, who lets us know how much he’s beating himself up for that last blow play. tyrus may or may not “feel the moment”, but his attitude is exactly what you want: short term memory loss and nothing but positive belief in making the winning play next time.

as far as comparing signing him now to losing gordon for nothing goes
tyrus will be restricted. tyrus will have to absolutely break out to be asking for that (gordon’s $11m) much. speculation is pretty useless, as long as we don’t have verifiable inside information. we’re just outsiders entertaining, amusing, or torturing ourselves.

Josh Howard was a solid player from the beginning of his career, plus he is a natural SF. Josh Smith is a comparison to Tyrus, both tweener SF/PF body types with extreme athleticism and both headcases

Well, so much for that:
Woj tweet:
No more extension talks between Chicago and Tyrus Thomas rep prior to deadline, sources tell Y!. Thomas will become restricted free agent.
