Open Game Thread #1: Bulls vs. San Antonio Spurs

San Antonio Spurs at Chicago Bulls, Oct 29, 2009 7:00 PM CDT

I'll be at the UC, probably tweeting. Perhaps a lot.

I don't know what to expect in terms of comment load tonight (could be big: opening night + TNT), but to play things somewhat safe I'll launch an overflow comment thread every hour and a half.

Go Bulls!

Key to the game: Tyrus Thomas. Dominate Bonner! Crush him on the glass!

I'm eager for the game to start

By the way, I guess Rose wasn’t really injured!

i think he is and i bet he only plays like 20 minutes

i really don’t have a good feeling abou his injury

I kinda liked Barkleys analysis of the BG situation

They weren’t a contender with him, so they need to find the other guy to put with Rose that makes em a contender. Simple but true

I guess the argument is

why keep the other two stiffs either? BG was working great with Rose. If you need to get rid of him there is still a list of guys to off.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

But neither of tonight’s games are viewable. Dicks…

There are really only two plays: Romeo and Juliet, and put the darn ball in the basket.

I don’t care what you think of the guy, but no way John Salmons does that.

i plan on it... i've read some of the excerpts on ESPN.com and i've found every one of them entertaining

700 pages is ridiculous, but the way he writes, it’s not a book that needs to be taken in all at once. you can put it by the can and read a couple pages every morning and be nicely entertained i think

by Daniel Satan on Oct 29, 2009 8:27 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm about halfway through it

It’s basically the exact same as his columns, to the point that there are portions of it copied and pasted directly from old columns. I enjoy his NBA writing, so I’m enjoying the book, but YMMV.

Paul will ensure 40 wins

Or at least as much as the Heat. They might not make the playoffs, but they’ll be better than 25.

Things could be worse. We could have kept Boylan.

I think Chris Paul wins you 25 by himself

I don’t think they will be great but 25 is a tad low

Um, no.

The Kings and Warriors are 25 win teams. The Hornets have a top 5 player in his prime.

Meh, he got a double-double in 22 minutes last night.

People were going overboard with the Blair hype in the preseason, but he’s going to be very serviceable.

by Ozzie Montana on Oct 29, 2009 8:29 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't doubt that

But I agree with your first statement. They were goin a bit overboard

by Option27 on Oct 29, 2009 8:30 PM CDT up reply actions

What do you guys expect Blair to do?

I still haven’t figured that out yet. Is he gona grab 10 boards every night, post up bigger players, throw down monster two hand dunks like he’s got good knees! The guys 6 foot 6 260 pounds and got knees like Neil Funk!

by Mr Rhythm on Oct 29, 2009 8:30 PM CDT up reply actions

So you are saying his knees

made him suck in college and the preseason? Because that just isn’t the case. He might have some date in the future where they are going to screw him over, but until then they haven’t hurt him. And that time might be years from now.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

by cranscape on Oct 29, 2009 8:33 PM CDT up reply actions

College and NBA are different

the preseason and regular season are different. Blair isn’t gonna be great player. He was walking with a limp after the game last night!

by Mr Rhythm on Oct 29, 2009 8:36 PM CDT up reply actions

He's gonna be better in those 3 years

that his knees are good than Taj will ever be.

Things could be worse. We could have kept Boylan.

by stupidgenius on Oct 29, 2009 8:37 PM CDT up reply actions

Taj has outplayed Blair in the match up

Including Taj board over Blair and getting the and 1 foul. Blair isn’t as athletic, isn’t as mobile, cannot shoot as well, cannot defend, they board about even, but Taj is better

by Mr Rhythm on Oct 29, 2009 8:39 PM CDT up reply actions

these bulls are looking pretty good.

say what you will about salmons crappy night so far, or pargos excellent golf playing skills (i feel like thats better than saying horrible horrible shooting), or Tyrus still not getting the fact that he shouldn’t be a jump shooter…its been a great night!

having the lead against the spurs after the half is an accomplishment in of itself.

by Revlution4ever on Oct 29, 2009 8:27 PM CDT reply actions

These guys sure make it interesting, don't they?

They’re playing hard. Skiles would be proud.

I still think Derrick needs to be a bit more aggressive. I know about the ankle and all but he looks good

by Option27 on Oct 29, 2009 8:27 PM CDT reply actions

He did that last year

Don’t see why he shouldn’t now.

Things could be worse. We could have kept Boylan.

by stupidgenius on Oct 29, 2009 8:33 PM CDT up reply actions

I think he's pretty out of condition right now.

If he drops 20/6/6 I’d be pretty stoked. There have been a few times when he could have blown by his man but just didn’t have the juice.

Overall, though, I’m impressed.

But I’ll settle for ending tonight with a healthy Derrick and a Bulls win.

If they keep him on the bike or something he'll be fine.

He says he stiffens up pretty easy if he doesn’t stay active. I hope someone has the sense not to let him cool down in the locker room.

Opinions on those new different camera angles

They usually have that one ‘Baseline’ view and thats about it. Now theyve added new ones. Personally, I’m not a fan of the behind the basket one but I really like that corner one. It gives it an ‘actually at the game’ feeling.
