Would U Trade Luol for Stephen Jackson?

If Golden State would take Luol, I would in a second.  I think all the pouting comes from being on a sorry ass squad and playing for a coach like Nellie.  Nellie seems to suck the life outta a lot of his players in recent years.

Star-divide

I would think Jackson's attitude would change once he got here.  I know he's been portrayed as a malcontent in the media, but anytime I hear his teammates say something about him, it's always positive.  U move him from a squad who has no chance of even making the playoffs in the West, to a squad that is coming off makin the playoffs and is getting better. We may not be title contenders this year, but we're pretty good.  To me, he is the guy we wish Lu was.  He's better in every aspect of the game, except maybe defense.  He has 3 point range, can create his own shot, rebounds, and actually finishes at the rim, plus he's making less money on a shorter contract.  U stick him in the starting 5 and we definitely can compete in the top 4 of the East.

I would trade the Swine FLu for Stephen Jackson

I would not, however, trade Jannero Pargo or Lindsay Hunter.

I think this comes down to Luol's health

If you think that he’ll be healthy, then you probably wouldn’t even consider this trade. But if you’re in the camp that believes he could be struggling with injuries his whole career (like me) then you’d have to give it some consideration. I’m personally leaning towards no, but talk to me in three weeks.

if that's the case

then just deal Luol for an expiring. Why take on Jackson?

Apparently the Spurs are still interested in Jackson

If Pop would want him there might be something to it.

You think someone will give up an expiring contract (which is like gold nowadays) for Luol?

With Luol’s track record we’re probably gonna have to take someone else’s garbage. And in my opinion you could do a lot worse than Stephen Jackson (Whose contract, I beleive, expires after next season).

Loul has no trade value until he proves he's healthy and productive....

and both are big questions. No one is stupid enough to take on that long of a contract unless they have a bigger albatross weighing down their franchise.

by Duck99 on Oct 29, 2009 5:40 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Once he shows he's healthy and productive

he’s worth a whole lot more than the likes of stephen jackson or an expiring contract… so this is all kind of pointless.

Luol isn’t going anywhere.

It kinda did though for awhile

Once everything went to hell in G State is when his attitude changed. Personally, I don’t think he’s that bad of a guy. Just a little obnoxious at times, but he really gets after it too.

Talk to me in a month.

Until then, no.

Things could be worse. We could have kept Boylan.

Stephen Jackson's salary per season:

2009-10 = $7,650,000

2010-11 = $8,453,250

2011-12 = $9,256,500

2012-13 = $10,059,750

Jackson isn’t as big of a malcontent as he seems. He spoke the truth about GS. The front office sucks and they’re not trying to win. He couldn’t have handled it all better but I dno’t really fault him that much. That being said, I don’t think we would really gain much with that trade. He thinks he’s a better player than he really is.

17 points on 61.2% True Shooting, 9 boards, 2 assists in 38 minutes for Deng tonight.

Plus the usual sound defense and smart passes. He looks to be back.

good 1st game

I’ve certainly bashed Loul and his contract on here, but he played well enough tonight to help the team, he’s never going to hit a lot of 3s or score off the dribble one on one a lot but if he can use his length to play D and hit the boards hard on both ends he can be effective when he is healthy and hitting his jumper …. seems like the effort was there and I would think he has a high enough bball IQ to figure out way to fit in and do little things well to help get Ws

his health and performance is the key to the Bulls long, althletic lineups to work

by NY Chicago Fan on Oct 29, 2009 11:11 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Overall it was good

He, and the rest of the team, passed and shared the ball nicely. I think if Loul really wanted to be selfish, he could’ve had like 24 points tonight.

After the Celtics game I must ask you...

…where does Luol Deng appear to be back from?

This guy has good games from time to time. He is a 6’9" SF and indeed talented. But he just can’t put it together and quite frankly may prove to be a waste of money. FAR too often when confronted with REAL challenges Deng wilts like a flower in the snow. You may be able to come up with an instance or two where he played big (and please don’t bring up that Miami series…if you do that we may as well start talking about the Bulls championship years because that’s long gone too), but far more often than not the moment seems too big for Deng. That has got to change if the Bulls are going anywhere this year. I’m more comfortable with Salmons on the court at the 3 at times than I am with Deng at this point.

Like wiltfongjr said Jackson is a cancer. He is one of those players that ruin chemistry and undermine the coaches game plan. That is the last thing we need.

maybe for salmons?

but I don’t know that Jackson can play the 2…. plus it would put us over the cap and Salmons is 2 years younger, so probably not.

I would not trade Deng for a 31 year old Jackson.

by 72-10 on Oct 30, 2009 12:32 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

It does to the people

an irrational hate of Luol. As if the fact that he doesn’t take people off the dribble much negates his efficient 15+ points a game, excellent defense and rebounding from the SF spot.

Very hard to make the argument that Stephen Jackson makes the Bulls better now or in the future as his skills and attitude degrade through the next 4 years of his contract.

This trade has to be more about getting rid of Deng at any cost.

by runningman on Oct 30, 2009 4:13 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

$72 Million dollars and a big reason the Bulls didn't re-sign their best player last year...

… is what makes people ask questions like this.

Come one man. You don’t give that kind of money and that number of years to a guy who can’t create his own offense or is not a true impact player. You just don’t do it or you’ll be sorry (Andre Kirelenko, Erick Dampier, Bobby Simmons, etc…) and come off this excellent defense thing. Deng plays decent defense but he’s no Scottie Pippen. Pippen played EXCELLENT defense. Deng plays good defense from time to time (when he starts popping up on the all-defense teams then we’ll give him that credit).

Stephen Jackson WOULD make the Bulls better right now. By virtue of the attitude he approaches the game with if nothing else. He’d give the Bulls more of that edge that Noah gives them. Hell the more I think about it, even Hinrich has a bit of an edge…but Deng doesn’t. Having said that though I wouldn’t make the trade because Jackson is 31 and Deng should be included in some sort of package deal to try to bring a star PF to Chicago…Salmons can fill his spot at the 3 in the meantime and Hinrich is more than capable of playing the 2 (Bulls really should have moved Hinrich and re-signed Gordon and had him at the 2 and Salmons the 3 and they really could have picked up where they left off last year).

by lexdiamonds0730 on Oct 31, 2009 5:20 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

There is no way Jackson makes them better right now

First, Pippen played all-time defense, not excellent defense. If that is your standard that just about no one in the league plays excellent defense.

Second, Jackson has never been anything more than mediocre, and his defense has been getting consistently worse for 4 years now. Deng is also a much better rebounder.

by JeffD on Nov 1, 2009 12:03 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yes, Lu is soft. Jackson has the “dog”, yeah. he’s a street baller, but so what?

Face it guys, Luol is a weak player, and his “defense” is nowhere near as good as people think.

by Trey23 on Oct 31, 2009 6:15 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

The only thing that Deng does above average is rebounding. He is a top tier rebounder for a SF. His D is good just slightly above average. Doesn’t get many steals or blocks, but he can stay in front of his man. A SF needs to be able to get his own shot. I gotta agree with Lex, how can you pay a system player 71 mill….this is turning into a Kirilenko style contract…

by C Smoove on Nov 1, 2009 12:11 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

age--matters for more than just cheese

Jackson is 31, turns 32 in April. While Deng is not a great fit w/ Rose, Jackson is even worse based on age alone. Personally I think LeBron James would be a good fit.

Another nice fit, possibly even better, would be Kevin Durant, who might be looking to get out of that hellhole, Oklahoma City.

Neither Durant or LeBron are coming to Chicago.

Quck answer

No. Deng’s a lot younger, and while not really a true leader himself, he’s also not a distraction and is more talented than SJax….he just is….

Bad trade for the Bulls….
