possible

Danny Berns on this:

GM Gar Forman deciding to loom over the proceedings by traveling with the team — "I want to be around the players and I want to be around the coaching staff — is a bad call, and John Paxson should keep this from happening. His presence undermines Vinny’s perceived authority (not that there is much), and will cause player discomfort in the locker room.

just heard his rant.

I seriously think thats why Vinny was testy on that radio show. Who knows.

I've got this thing and it's fucking golden!

dunno

I used to complain when Pax wouldn’t be involved at all in the coaching, so it’s tough for me to get on Forman for doing this now. Plus it’s not like we have a coach that couldn’t use some extra help.

One really can't know from outside

It could be that the GM coming along could be unwelcome interference. Or it could be a welcome and helpful effort to get everyone on the same page and get a better feel for scouting other teams and understanding ours.

How we feel about it is probably pretty dependent on whether we think Forman knows how to be useful and actually lead, manage and work with folks. In everywhere I’ve ever worked, there are people that have a knack for it and people that don’t. There’s not much difference between a good idea poorly executed and a bad idea well executed.

it's as much about Vinny having leadership skills

he has to adapt to having someone over his shoulder. And it’s not like he’s proven to have a thick skin about being second guessed…

personally I don't think it's as bad as Bernstein made it seem..

if they have a good relationship then so what. I agree Matt, Paxson at times seemed distant to what was really going on.

I've got this thing and it's fucking golden!

He was more animated on the air,

saying that Forman is essentially cutting Vinny’s nuts off by hanging around the team all season long. He does make a good point, as I don’t see how this makes the team better or gives him a better look at free agents. All it’ll do is piss of the coaches and make the players uncomfortable, not to mention likely tire Gar out quite a bit.
Someone tell me if I’m wrong here, but wouldn’t Gar be better served sitting in the Berto center with his scouts and talent evaluators watching NBA league pass all day instead of going to every Bulls home and road game?
This is fairly strange and wholly illogical.

Metal sharpens metal.

And this guy right here understands and knows what leadership is all about: The coach, the hall of famer......... Dick Butka! George Ryan

agreed

plus the basic premise that forman’s focus is being shifted from the draft is flawed. sports2 from his easy chair coulda told him to draft lawson and blair, for example.

isn’t this just what (a vocal minority?) of vinny haters want? a rough start, added pressure and vinny fired on xmas?

personally, i’d rather it were easy going, tyrus playing, and pete myers staying just where he’s at.

Thanks! I was just trying to figure out how to leverage my Blair and Lawson love into a Bulls related post

The early returns on the 18th and 37th picks in the draft is looking pretty good, isn’t it?

And yeah, I do think it’s pretty easy to imagine the real reason Forman is doing what he’s doing to keep a better eye on his own team and not others.
