This is just dumb.

I’d take him over Hunter & Pargo any day of the week. Ug, cheap-ass Bulls…

Welcome to Bulls basketball!

I fucking hate this organization.

1. Cut a hole in a box
2. Put your Kirk in that box
3. Make some team open that box

Yeah, without Byars

I suppose we can kiss that Eastern Conference Championship goodbye, eh?

by kozzer on Oct 29, 2009 9:28 AM CDT up reply actions

it's not that. it's that it was unnecessary. it's just another example of the Bulls being

both:

1) cheap; and
2) poor talent evaluators / signing the wrong guys.

They did it with Deng vs. Gordon. They did it by dumping Chandler in favor of Ben Wallace. They did it by overpaying Noce, Hinrich, and Deng.

This time they signed Gray (fat / broken leg), Pargo (old, sucks), and Hunter (really old, useless), but won’t spend a league minimum salary on a guy that’s younger and offers more than both of those guys right now. It’s dumb and it’s why this org. sucks.

That Derrick Byars actually offers anything meaningful over Hunter and Pargo.

is an exaggeration. An experienced crappy players that know how to play NBA defense and understand NBA offenses are almost always more valuable than a crappy 1st year player when it comes down to scoring more points than the opposing team. I’ve seen nothing that suggests that Byars helps the team more than Hunter or Pargo. In this instance I’m glad the Bulls didn’t waste time on Derrick Byars just to satisfy the dumb fans that are always in love with the third string quarterback.

by Scotter on Oct 29, 2009 10:57 AM CDT up reply actions

Hunter literally can't play anymore; he's totally washed up. He's awful and Pargo is just a chucker.

Byars was a better shooter and gave defensive effort.

by fundamentallysound on Oct 29, 2009 11:57 AM CDT up reply actions

Hunter is still a better defender than Byars and the overall difference is ultimately immaterial.

Fringe NBA players are fringe NBA players. Byars was okay, but if I was the coach I’d rather have Hunter as the 5th guard.

by Scotter on Oct 29, 2009 1:15 PM CDT up reply actions

I suppose you're right. I liked Byars in the event of an injury

- which seems pretty likely given the preseason - but ultimately it’s pretty minimal and they can always re-sign him later if need be.

I'm not upset about not keeping Byars either

though I am worried that Pargo is possible no longer NBA-caliber. We already know Hunter isn’t.

one thing that was talked about

was that they might waive him and sign him to something even cheaper, like what was done with ruffin a year ago.

"They should. They better. I'm Vinny Del Negro!"

by Jaina on Oct 28, 2009 2:36 PM CDT reply actions

ahh...that's right.

Though wasn’t Byars already at the minimum?

no idea

i read that in one of the articles though, which makes me think he might not have been?

"They should. They better. I'm Vinny Del Negro!"

by Jaina on Oct 28, 2009 2:39 PM CDT up reply actions

Pargo is a steely-eyed sharp-shooter with ice in his veins

Just as good as Gordon but way cheaper.

At least that’s what I’ve heard.

BTW, the fact that Byars is actually better than Pargo just shows what a waste of money signing Pargo was. I wish they had gone the cheap route and just gotten someone like Byars. The Pargo decision makes me think that the Bulls talent evaluation is still wretched (and Dejuan Blair says hi).

no one questioned blair's talent

just his knees. it’s an experiment in progress. i’m sure everyone hopes he has a 15 year career. we’ll see.

i'm hot for teacher

by DLRoth on Oct 28, 2009 3:33 PM CDT up reply actions

Even a 7 year career is still fine. Most players don’t last 15 years, or even 10.

by C Smoove on Oct 28, 2009 7:03 PM CDT up reply actions

Rose talked about how Hunter helps him

on Chicago Tribune Live last night. Will Perdue interviewed him.

12/31: Fire Vinny Del Negro.

by NBA Observer on Oct 28, 2009 3:24 PM CDT up reply actions

My thoughts exactly

If he’s helping D-Rose, he could continue helping him as an assistant coach

Jannero Pargo = Larry Hughes 2.0

Vandy

But he was a Vanderbilt boy!

by chapuforyou on Oct 28, 2009 3:16 PM CDT reply actions

WTF?

Why did they sign him and then waive him the next day?

Things could be worse. We could have kept Boylan.

by stupidgenius on Oct 28, 2009 3:55 PM CDT reply actions

Doug Thonus thinks they may have kept him around a couple of extra days to give him a little more walking around money, since they really like him.

Why isn't your friendly Bulls Blogger friendly?

by Dionysus2.0 on Oct 28, 2009 10:49 PM CDT up reply actions

um
since they really like him.

If they really liked him why did they cut him?

I've got this thing and it's fucking golden!

by SoulEater7 on Oct 29, 2009 12:19 AM CDT up reply actions

Maybe this is standard practice, but this just makes Forman look like a giant asshole.

Meanwhile, Jannero Pargo plays himself out of the NBA and gets a guaranteed contract.

The 2009 White Sox....like a 40 degree day.

by Ozzie Montana on Oct 28, 2009 4:50 PM CDT reply actions

Maybe they didn't know something about Derrick that they know today

If Forman/VDN was upfront with Byars (“We are keeping you on the roster till we know if Rose is ready to go, etc.”), then I don’t see a problem. We have no idea if they handled the situation professionally or not, so I’m going to assume the best.

However, we do know they handled the Pargo situation stupidly (in that they signed him). That does make Gar Paxdorf look like an idiot.

that's what I figured as well.

Seems weird the media was informed he was on the team

and then the next chance they got to talk to the media he was off.

I’d really like it if they’d give new guys a chance and not sign the semi-retired and Pargo guaranteed spots. New guys have a possibility of surprising us or in the very least are a livelier practice squad for our regular guys than Hunter would be.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

I just see one explanation for that

Byars agent told the press that he was going to stay. The Bulls front office didn’t like that attitude and decided to waive him (in Europe are a lot of things like that). But we’ll never know, right?

Jannero Pargo = Larry Hughes 2.0

by bull83 on Oct 28, 2009 5:51 PM CDT up reply actions

Whyyyy???

man, the Bulls organization just love to get your hopes up and crush it. sigh. They should have gave one of the million they gave to Pargo to Byars.

All for naught. what a shame.
