Bill Simmons Picks the Bulls to win 49 games
Bill is really high on Derrick Rose, and expects that to lead to 49 wins. Wow.

yeah, but doesn't this say it all?
the whole 2-part column is about what’s intriguing in the NBA this year. And the Bulls get a dozen words saying ‘Rose will be great’.
I’m still pissed at Simmons for his insulting ‘let it breathe’ offseason report on the Bulls. I still don’t know what the hell that’s supposed to mean.
AND he’s dogging the Aldridge extension like he does every single contract extension not given to the top 5 players in the NBA (or the 78th best player, Kevin Durant).
That said, I still liked the column overall :)

I actually agree with his analysis of the Aldridge extension. Aldridge doesn't rebound or play inside
and the market is in a crazy state of flux. Given those conditions, does it really make much sense to lock up a guy who could best be described as the rich man’s Joe Smith for 65 million dollars over 5 years?
I like Aldridge, I think he’s a very good player. However, I don’t know that he’s worth that kind of commitment right now.
The counter argument is that someone who loses out on Bosh, Wade, Bron, etc. next year could have thrown a max at him and the Blazers would have been forced to match. So it’s a bit of a balancing act, and Paul Allen is still ridiculously rich, so I guess it’s worth it.

I don't know what the negotiations were like
I think they had to sign him now, or he sulks for a year (in reaction to seeing his draft-mate Roy quickly get the max) and it potentially ruins him and the team. It’s worth the extra $$ to get him locked in. He has a high floor.
Plus, Paul Allen is rich. I don’t see a downside with the extension, outside of hurting his future trade value.
Simmons wants nobody paid. It’s just not realistic.

plus I think the Aldridge deficiencies aren't as big of a deal
since they have the best rebounding center rotation in the league.

I loved this small part when describing the upcoming Trailblazers season
The “You Thought We’d Take Another Leap, But Instead We Went Backward Because Expectations Were Too High, We Tinkered With Our Chemistry And Our Young Guys Tuned Out Their Coach” Team
(Ladies and gentlemen, your 2009-10 Portland Trail Blazers!)
Reminds you of somebody doesn’t it?

Im a Bulls fan…unfortunately: Hard Time in chi-city"I think it’s safe to say Noah and Rose are the future."
Aldridge is overpaid but not drastically. It’s not an albatross contract because he is young and will be productive. Also the strong center rotation in Oden/Przybilla makes his lack of D and rebounding somewhat acceptable. Plus they had to do the deal because he is very very moody and would have sulked all year.
Also the Blazers are going nowhere…they will be title contenders no time soon. Nate already has the rotation f’d up by starting Blake and Pryz.
OKC.

49 would be pretty outstanding
i also saw where the “panel” ranged from 30 to 55(!) wins predicted. though i couldn’t find the usual chart showing same. (accountability.)
ehh. i just spent too much time online (again) with this crap. and what’s with all this “noah and tyrus are a mismatch” nonsense? sure, in theory noah’s ideal pf would be…. rasheed, i suppose. (or more precisely, a young rasheed. who doesn’t exist.) but who the hell really wants that?
tyrus and the bulls will be fine, even if they don’t win 49 (or 55!). now, please excuse me as i spend the next week getting even more amped by re-watching the playoff series (again!)….

the closest thing in the league to a young Rasheed is LMA over in Portland.

thought about that
but i’m just not an lma guy. he’s still more joe smith to me than ’sheed.
his d has improved though. just means he’s no longer terrible at it.
simmons is going out on a rather long limb with that predicted collapse for them (alå the bulls’ of 2 years ago). be fun to see, but roy is too good to let it happen.

yea, my point was that the closest thing young Sheed that remains in the league isn't really that close at all.
