Hooray mediocrity!
This team consistently shoots for the lower end of the playoffs, racks of playoff revenue, and stays under the tax.
Lather, rinse, repeat.
Tyrus is going to be gone next year, so every time he does something great, I’m going to be simultaneously pumped and bummed out. Thanks management.
The Bulls are probably going to strike out on a max FA, and even if they do manage to land a max FA, they will have to run out a skeletal crew for 2010-11, which leads to another whole year of mediocrity. It would be a fun team to watch, just because Rose and max FA X would make it exciting, but the end result would be the same.
The “2010 plan” ignores the importance of players 3-12 on all championship teams. To be a real contender, you need at least 2 stars (unless one of them is LeBron, Wade, or CP3) and a host of above average to average contributors in those 3 through 10 slots. In order to get our second star, we’ll have to lose Tyrus, Miller, and Salmons. That would leave us with Rose, Max FA, Hinrich, Deng, Noah and not a whole heck of a lot else. If Johnson and Gibson are both average-ish (not likely given the overall crapiness of this draft), then that helps, but its more likely that one or both of them are pretty crap. To be mildly optimistic, say one of them works out. That’s 2 stars (Rose and max FA), a very good player (Noah), a couple of above average guys (Deng, Hinrich), and 1 average guy (Taj or JJ). That’s simply not enough for contention. Given the Bulls proclivity for filling out rosters with scrubs like Pargo, I have little faith that they can find cheap, productive players for slots 7-12, with their draft picks, cap exceptions. So even if the plan goes as well as possible (in that the Bulls get a 2010 max FA), they will still be very likely mediocre to slightly above average unless Rose becomes an all world player on the level of a LeBron or Wade or CP3.
This organization shoots for sustained mediocrity and its pretty sickening. Blegh.

for fans who want to watch consistently excellent basketball, not just the occasional excellent
game from a mediocre team, the organization’s maddening insistence on not paying (above the tax) to improve the tax and then paying the wrong players (under the tax), it’s just … extremely frustrating.
There’s deep and pervading organizational incompetence and cheapness on the sly. They spend just enough so that calling them cheap isn’t quite true, but when it comes time to spend the real money to make a real leap up to being a consistent 55 to 60+ win threat (i.e. to be a REAL contender) they cheap out. And it sucks, and I’m tired of it, as a fan.

Sigh.
Guess what, this place is also full of Idiot Ivans who don’t care how the team is doing or how it could be doing better, and complain every time people point out that the Bulls are following a path to mediocrity.

Detroit bloggers are funny...
Or at the very least optimistic…every single one predicts an improvement over last season…
HELLO DETROIT – You lost your entire starting frontcourt, and will be going into battle with Kwame Brown, Ben Wallace and Jason Maxiel…..
Why isn't your friendly Bulls Blogger friendly?
