i was at

the bulls/bucks game in green bay. it was pretty awesome cuz front row seats behind the bench were only 40 bucks.

I thought a NBA team could only have up to 15 players?

How did the Bucks end up with 40? ;)

Tyrus takes one charge...

and gets a concussion and injured hip. Somehow I don’t think we will see Tyrus taking too many more charges this season.

Noah and Deng working well together.

I really like Noah passing from the high past and Deng cutting. That can and should be a big part of our offense.

Deng actually being utilized correctly by Del Negro

although there was a play earlier when the Mil’s D was shook up, and Deng decided to dribble and shoot instead of finding an open man up top for 3

I hate the

“oh we can turn it on later” mentality. Respect yourself and play well. Sure, Rose it out, but they have Kirk, Deng, and Salmons. Vets. No need to play this sloppy. You’d think they’d at least revert to basic basketball fundamentals if they have a few rookies in the rotation and need to keep things simple.

he’s around 10 pounds overweight, he won’t be the slasher he was trying to haul that weight around. As for Salmons, this guy has to step up also. He’s slow, and his jumper is average. I wanted the Bulls to get Sam Young for that reason!

The Bulls can actually keep Byars...

I’m so tired of KC or Neil or Stacey saying the Bulls can’t keep Byars because of all of their guaranteed contracts. Either pay minimum luxury tax for a young player who can actually make shots and defend his position or cut fat Lindsey Hunter and make him a coach since I’m pretty sure none of us really want him on the court anyway. This organization is ridiculous and the mainstream (and Bulls-sponsored in the case of Comcast Sportsnet) refuses to challenge them.

by Gene Banks on Oct 13, 2009 8:54 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

They won't go into it for good players

they certainly wouldn’t for hungry, young guys. Besides, the contracts are guaranteed. I’d prefer young guys, but you can’t underestimate Hunter whispering sweet nothings into Rose’s ear. I guess that is what he is being paid for.

If Tyrus had stayed in college

instead of being thrown to the wolves early on he might have that kind of confidence and longer skills early on like Taj has. Taj’s biggest asset is that he is an older rookie coming in with more skills. Sometimes I wish Tyrus had gone to a team that bothered to develop their raw projects. Last year was probably his most stable year and even then he had a lot of coming and going around him (Gooden and Noc out, Miller in).

Skiles may be an asshole, but I wish he coached Derrick's rookie season.

On one hand, he might not have played so much, but he would have been so much better off defensively.

I'm trying to be patient with Deng. I really am. And...

…let’s not forget that this is only the preseason so 9 pt games are really nothing to worry about with Deng.

HAVING SAID THAT,

Once again this guy doesn’t consistently look good. Forget the points. Deng simply doesn’t appear to be a factor yet again. I have been saying for about 3 yrs or so now that Deng simply is not the goods. He’s a decent player, but he’s not what many of you here think he is. But I will wait till the regular season before I really get critical of him though. But even the most ardent Deng supporters have to be at the point where they are beginning to see that Deng isn’t this “All-Star” talent they think he is. He’s 18 and 8 at best and will likely finish behind LeBron, Danny Granger, Chris Bosh, Caron Butler, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Gerald Wallace, Rashard Lewis, Josh Smith, Michael Beasley, David Lee, Elton Brand, Antawn Jamison and Hedo Turkoglu in All-Star voting. If indeed he does finish behind all these guys (or even most of them), can we PLEASE quit calling Deng a borderline all-star…at least until he actually makes it.

Not that anyone can live up to that contract but it’s the principle of it. The Bulls fucked up. To listen to the propaganda it was like posh to say just wait until Deng developes this and that, just wait.

I loved the Deng pick when we got him!!!

I was certain that Deng would be like Grant Hill before he got injured. But as I said long ago (and was teased mercilessly for it), Deng just doesn’t have the “dog” in him. He doesn’t have the heart to be what the Bulls REALLY need him to be. He’s a nice player and the Bulls will do alright with him being that way. But if Deng REALLY took his game to the next level then the Bulls would be a next level team. If Deng averaged 23 and 10, he’d be an all-star and that would mean he’s attacking every night and being assertive. The Bulls would have two bonafide weapons alongside and emerging Noah and they’d be a scary team to play. Three serious weapons all under 25 yrs old (of course Noah won’t score 20 a game but it seems he can easily be a double double guy).

But the truth is that this guy just has to do more than he’s done to this point as a Bull.

But Deng doesn’t make himself a weapon often enough.

by lexdiamonds0730 on Oct 14, 2009 12:18 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Exactly he doesn't have the dog in him.

I love how you put that. There is this certain mentally that a great players have. They all have a bit of nasty and the more nasty the better. It’s a cut throat mentally. To me Hinrich and Deng have that ah shucks mentality. As cheesy as that sounds. It’s true. To me Deng and Hinrich time has come and gone. They had their chances in the second round against the Pistons and crapped the bed. That might be their legacy. Beating an old Heat team and getting beat down but the Pistons.

It's hilarious to hear you rail against one guy so much

In case you haven’t noticed, there are very few Luol Deng fans on this blog, and in Bulls fandom in general. I don’t know why you lead a crusade against someone people are so indifferent about.

Everyone acts like Ben Gordon was the only Bull who got heat during his tenure. The amount of vitriol for Luol Deng is reaching ridiculous proportions. It’s to the point where I think certain fans would rather see him get injured every year so they can just bitch about the team and continue acting like they predicted this 6 seasons ago.

The 2009 White Sox....like a 40 degree day.

by Ozzie Montana on Oct 14, 2009 12:18 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

See, there you go Illini. I'm a longtime Deng basher...LOL.

As for you Ozzie, I’m glad you are so entertained. But I’ve had serious battles with folks about Deng over the years. Maybe now there are fewer Deng lovers, but that doesn’t change the fact that I’ve been calling out his play for some time now. Just seems now that people have finally gotten over their stupor.

And Gordon was FAR AND AWAY the most vilified player on this Bulls team over the last 3 yrs or so on this and pretty much any other Bulls blog you go to. Sure Kirk got beat over the head some and there is plenty Tyrus Thomas bashing. But Gordon got more uncalled for heat than anybody. I still remember reading about how Gordon gave up a shot to Ray Allen that put the playoff game into overtime (game 2 if I’m not mistaken). People were on here KILLING Gordon…and he wasn’t even in the game when it happened. That kind of thing routinely happened. On the other hand. I hope I NEVER have to read another excuse about how Deng is only 24, or Deng isn’t used to playing with Rose, or Del Negro doesn’t know how to use Deng, or Deng didn’t want to fight with Gordon for shots, etc….

By the way, I did predict this with Deng…not six years ago but way before anybody else did. Like I said, I was THRILLED when the Bulls drafted him because I thought he’d be like Grant Hill. But by year 2 I got the feeling that he wasn’t going to be anything special yet I had to listen to folks tell me over and over again how great Deng was. Whatever. I hope he turns out to be great because the Bulls will be great. NOTHING would make me happier than to have to say I was wrong about Deng. But I highly doubt it.

by lexdiamonds0730 on Oct 14, 2009 12:27 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Your missing the point.

it’s the fact that the Bulls brass over paid him and let the guy they should have over paid go. Are you ok with the Bulls paying paying Loul Deng? Then you must be ok with John Paxson running the team as well? Or losing every season in the first round with mentally weak players who miss free throws and crap their pants in Detroit.

Let me know when you wanna win titles then maybe we can get on the same page. Until then I will rail away until this organization gets it’s shit together and hangs banners. You wanna be the Clippers have fun with that.

I'm with you on this one

There’s just no way around it, the Deng signing has been a horrible and crippling move up to this point. I don’t wanna speak for other people, but the reason I get so frustrated and talk shit about him is not because I have something against him personally or even think he’s that bad of a player (when healthy) it’s because I see all of the problems that retaining him for that long and at that price has and can cause. Even at his best I just don’t see him fitting in with this team. His skill set (offensively) just does not mesh with the current roster.

Are you kidding me? Man, I had battles with folks at the end of last season and...

…parts of this summer before BG finally signed with Detroit. When that happened then I just said, “What the hell” and figured I gotta pull for Deng since I’m a Bulls fan. But I still read garbage on here sometimes that says stuff like, “Deng was AWESOME”. That is a quote from about two games ago. Those “Dengers” are still here and need to be talked to.

by lexdiamonds0730 on Oct 14, 2009 12:06 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

And he's gotta take that heat now since everybody's whipping boy BG is gone.

Nobody appreciated what BG brought to the table and constantly stated how much more valuable Deng was than Gordon. I and a few others around here disagreed. Gordon was the most unappreciated guy the Bulls have ever had. Folks constantly harping about what he didn’t do while singing Deng’s praises…and eventually Salmons’ praises…and making EVERY excuse in the book for why Deng’s potential hadn’t come to fruition. It was absolutely ridiculous. Now that Gordon is gone maybe folks will see the chinks in Deng’s armor that I and others have spoken of for years now.

Now if Deng proves me wrong I will be a happy man because that will mean the Bulls will have won 50+ games on the strength of a 20+ ppg, 8 rpg season by Deng and I will be thrilled to death. But I just don’t think that’s gonna happen.

Now if Deng proves me wrong I will be a happy man because that will mean the Bulls will have won 50+ games on the strength of a 20+ ppg, 8 rpg season by Deng and I will be thrilled to death. But I just don’t think that’s gonna happen.

 totally agree.

Anyone wanna start taking bets on how long it will take until Vinny

moves Salmons to the 3 and plays Hinrich and Rose together a majority of the time. Cause the early part of the schedule looks pretty rocky and I’m thinking it could happen as early as 5 games in, and stay that way for a while…

If that happens then it will be a disaster.

Not that Salmons at the 3 will be a disaster. I think he’d do fine there. But if Vinny throws in the towel on Deng at the 3 then that will be a disaster. As much as he gets on my nerves though, I really can’t see him playing his way out of the lineup. He’ll give the Bulls at least as much as Salmons gives them…and he is 6’9" and that kind of height and length can be problematic for the opposition when he asserts himself.

You know what player would fit this team right now? That they let get away because

there were too many guards? Shannon Brown. He has energy, makes defensive plays, steals and can get to the hoop. Thats the kinda bench player the guard rotation needs. When Rose comes out the Bulls become that jump shooting team from years past.

Don't forget that the Bulls gave away...

…J.R. Smith as well. He didn’t fit the “profile” at a time when people were steadily bashing Gordon for being too short and the Bulls were dying for a taller SG. Smith would have been much better than Hughes. Plus, I think Gordon would have been far more receptive to splitting time at the 2 with Smith than coming off the bench behind guys like Hinrich and Duhon considering Smith is legitimately very talented and as good as Gordon and in the right situation would be as productive whereas Hinrich and Duhon could never match Gordon’s production…and Gordon knew it and he kept getting jerked around.

Deng’s main problem has always been his lack of elite athleticism, lack of handles and lack of aggression. There have been times where he is aggressive and he can have a 22 and 8 game but he just can’t play aggressive all 82 games a year. I don’t know why, maybe he’s just too laid-back. At best he is going to be a slightly above average SF who is being paid like an All-star SF. Deng isn’t a scrub, he has skills. Can defend decently and is actually a strong rebounder for the 3 spot. However his lack of athleticism and aggression will ensure that his game will never take that next step.

PLEASE TRADE NOW.
