I have a feeling we're gonna get it
With all this food-gaet and crying for playing time by players who should be on other teams everybody should be motivated to play with energy and give their all. I nothing else than to give a finger to VDN about not playing enough…. Or whatever.

And if not
And if not, there’s still a good chance we win.

Gooden was giving him all kinds of room to operate.

I agree...
Early on, I actually thought Blatche might go off…but then he kinda disappeared. But, Nick Young lit the Bulls up…

D Rose
Has to make a statement tonight? This should be one of those games where no one can stop him.

No Gray in the starting lineup!
Suit up the MJ Statue! It should be able to give us the interior defense we've been lacking! Get on it Pax!

The dreaded DNP-CD for Gray tonight
Going from starter, to guy who just appears on the lineup sheet but plays less than 10 minutes, to not even playing. That’s not exactly how you would want to manage a young player’s minutes. What the hell is so hard in just giving him 5-6 minutes a game every time?

I don't understand
Why Vinny does these subs with like 23 seconds left int he quarter. We could have had Gordon score there at the end of the quarter. Instead of Hunter/Hughes messing up. It’s not like that 23 seconds of rest will make a world of difference for Gordon.

On defense too. Thabo not allowing a single point to Butler (he only scored on Noce). Thomas & Gooden dominate the rebounds and the paint. Rose and Gordon doing their job too on defense.

This
is the type of game I love from Tyrus. Staying within his means. Getting to the free throw line, snatching board. Keep it simple. He has definitely been playing more consistently. I really think the second half of the year, he is gonna keep this up.
All the Tyrus era must stop talk is retarded. He still makes mistakes but he is not the problem on this team. There is no point in trading him this year. He has been contributing and his attitude for the most part is improved. Some are going to note these stats are against Washington…but you can’t control who you play against. You just produce and he is producing very effeciently
I like Thabo at the SF spot. He should be the new backup SF instead of Noce. He is as productive, plays D instead of just fouling and does all the little things a team needs. He looks more confident in his shot. He can definitely be the Battier/Bruce Bowen glue guy on the team.
I like how they got a lead and didn’t let Washington come back like they usually do. When you are beating a bad team, you step on their fucking neck.
Hughes is terrible. I was for keeping him until his contract expires but fuck it, just ditch him. His hot streak is over, the real Larry Hughes is here now and he’s a chucking loser.
I want a blowout if they don’t win by at least 10, I won’t be happy even if they win.
by C Smoove on Jan 9, 2009 8:41 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
consistency
is turning around for T2 in the last 2-3 weeks I think. He has been cutting to the basket a lot more and getting easy baskets. I know it’s only the Washington Wizards but its a stepping stone towards the playoffs (gasp) this year and in the future. Fun times are here again!

Joakim Noah Kills Us
Joakim Noah should not be on an NBA basketball court. He doesn’t have the strength/athleticism combination to play in this league.
When he comes in, we get worse both offensively and defensively.
Our bigs should play in this order: Drew Gooden —> Tyrus Thomas —> Aaron Gray —> Cedric Simmons —> Joakim Noah

I don't hate Kirk.
Hinrich is an OK player considering the players drafted after him, but he is nothing special, and certainly not worth preventing the Bulls from making a run at a top level free agent, or for that matter, re-signing Ben Gordon.

The knife cut into his soul
He missed a bunch of shots, but he at least had a good passing game against a crappy defense. Plus, several of his missed shots led to putbacks from the big men, so they aren’t totally wasted possessions. Good things happen when he attacks the rim. And that dunk off the Thabo pass has to be worth double.

Rose should have his minutes cut to about 32-34 a game, so his legs remain relatively fresh.
This is where Hinrich coming back could help, since right now the Bulls generally play horribly with Rose on the bench.

Think how much better this team would be defensively
If Noah added some weight (in the right way). He is at times competent, but often he just gets lost or a guy can put a spin move on him and score rather easily.
Hughes definitely wants out, how much more showcasing can you get than 12 shot attempts in 20 minutes?
Also, one positive for Vinny tonight. After Gooden did that dumb through the legs dribble and fadeaway he immediately yanked him. If VDN wants to be about professionalism, then make sure the players don’t get lazy during games they should easily win.

Two random notes
Wizards play Mcgee what do you have to lose….
And Larry Hughes almost played as many minutes as Thabo…..who again helps the ball movement and plays solid D not gambling D. But I guess they want to save him for Durant.
by Camry on Jan 10, 2009 12:38 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
Hughes should not play at all
He’s just awful on both ends. He’s worse than Nocioni.
Larry shot himself into a good shooting night, but it was in a 4th quarter stretch where our defense was nonexistent. Larry belongs on the Warrirors or the Wizards.
12/31: Fire Vinny Del Negro.
by NBA Observer on Jan 10, 2009 10:37 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I was surprised that we had Larry in there late when it got close
Caron Butler could of got off or shrugged off his bad night to me if Thabo wasn’t playing him the way he was. Also he makes way better decisions just all around. Has a great wing span…can actually jump. I’m not sure if Larry can jump actually he never completed a dunk back in the dunk contest some years back and I only see him getting rejected from like 05 to now.
I don’t know why Vinny is being nice to him its not about how we can please one player…and I know it can be a disruption but if we get the best lineups out there then he could probably shut up. (or at least have even more overwhelming reason to)
by Camry on Jan 10, 2009 1:36 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
This is our best defensive lineup
Rose
Gordon
Thabo
Thomas
Gooden
I could watch this five all night defensively. They talk to eachother. They help. They recover. They position well. The Wizards had no answer when this five was rolling defensively.
It all made the offense look easy.
12/31: Fire Vinny Del Negro.
by NBA Observer on Jan 10, 2009 10:35 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
Rolling
I agree for the most part, but when Gooden subbed for Noah early in the 4th, the defense fell apart. When a Wiz got by his man it was an uncontested lay up. It happens consistently in games the Bulls are leading, that the whole team stops playing D as long as they’re scoring. Then they miss 3 or 4 shots and the game is close. At least VDN called them on it in the post-game.
by El Toro de Goro on Jan 10, 2009 11:16 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Here's the rub
I do think that Noah is the better center in the best 5 man defensive unit, but the benefits are situational. Noah is the much better option at center when the opponent is fielding a 5 man unit that is a threat to dribble penetrate and Gooden is the better option when the opponent 5 man is a threat to shoot. Noah is much quicker, more active, and forces the dribble penetration shots into lower FG% attempts and Gooden is the big body that can box out on the jump shots.
One thing is clear. The PF with both Noah and Gooden has to be Tyrus. Nocioni makes the unit completely fall apart as he’s not a real shot blocking threat from the weakside and he’s giving away so much position and height in the rebounding department. We saw Thomas last night just rebound in elevated space that no other player on the court can reach. That’s all space Tyrus can own his way to 12 rebounds a night. If he just gets the minutes.
12/31: Fire Vinny Del Negro.
by NBA Observer on Jan 10, 2009 12:03 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Rub a dub
I agree. They also need Gooden offensively with Tyrus because opposing bigs can’t lay off him. I just wish he wasn’t so inconsistent defensively. Does he ever take a charge?
by El Toro de Goro on Jan 10, 2009 2:21 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I was at the game last night
and I must say, the most hilarious Hughes-booing of the night was at the end when everyone was pissed he didn’t try to score and get 100 points for the Big Mac.
On that note, can someone explain to me why they even play this guy anymore? Sure, he helped us win last night, but I mean I don’t even think he played at all in the first and third quarters. It’s like Vinny is scared/feels bad that he’s not in the game, so then he played him the entire 2nd and 4th. Pretty fucking weird.
When I watch NBA games I often call the fouls before the referees do. Sometimes it’s a gift. Most of the time it's troublesome. - NBA Observer
by Illini15 on Jan 10, 2009 12:17 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
I wonder sometimes if Vinny knows how negative his impact can be sometimes
Like there will be a fast break while we’re making a run to cut the lead or to build a better lead. And he comes and jacks it up. Or maybe even drives in and gets it rejected because he can’t elevate like he thinks. Or even just his gambling defense which Vinny wanted to rely on before to me for offense.
But now hopefully hes understanding that Thabo is the better choice. He plays solid defense which makes more opportunities for us (not to mention the break). And also Noch-Thabo the guys familiar with the international play are more fundamentally sound I think or at least know when to move and where with Rose. (also Thabo can help start feeding Rose as well and then we’ll just be a ton more balanced I think)
But Larry Hughes I’m amazed that he doesn’t see how bad he is almost every jumper for him is fools gold for the team.

You have to watch Hughes in the 2000 dunk contest
The guy couldn’t even finish in a a freaking dunk contest. Seriously. His dunks were weak. His missed almost 9 attempts. He only made 1.
His face is priceless. It’s the “When you get traded it’s ok because you know SOMEBODY wants you” face. lol

I sounds pretty ugly even for larry not sure if I could stomach it
And come on they didn’t have any other dunnkers in that year. Hes lucky Vince and them were there they were so good everyone forgot how bad Hughes was.

Also,
Has anyone noticed that whenever Vinny calls a TO, he frantically paces towards the middle of the court, stands by himself, and then his assistants come over and talk to him before he even addresses the team? It’s almost like he has no clue what to say/do during the TO so he asks his assistants to tell him what he should do…or something. It’s really, really weird and I’ve never seen any other coach do this. Someone tell me I’m not crazy.
When I watch NBA games I often call the fouls before the referees do. Sometimes it’s a gift. Most of the time it's troublesome. - NBA Observer

Skiles did the same
thing all the time. Watching LP I have noticed that some other coaches do it too. I don’t think it’s that big a deal.

Okay good
Maybe Vinny isn’t actually as clueless as I think he might be is

It is his first
head coaching job so he’s learning as he goes.

just realized..
last night was only the 4th time all season where tyrus thomas had double-digit rebounds

Play him 30+ minutes Vinny
Vinny doesn’t put Tyrus out there long enough to rebound in greater quantities. When he plays 30+ minutes he’s averaging 9 boards per. If he could get some consistent burn he would easily tally a double double a night.
