Around SBN: More Televised Winter Baseball, Please

Says one extremely high-ranking team executive: "This is going to be a nuclear winter for free agents. I would not want to be one this summer. So, if the point is that this summer will be great because there will be bargains galore, you are on the money."

Ben Gordon, your MLE is waiting.

oof.

well, I’ve seen promises of restraint before. Hey if the Bulls can get Gordon on a cheaper deal, great.

Not only is it great

hopefully we can resign Ruffin as well!!

and I should remind you (D2.0, not myself) that it only takes one team

So despite any market generalities, a TWolves or Pacers can ruin your perverse desire to see Ben Gordon shamed for not taking Reinsdorf’s supposed charity.

I know it only takes one team.

I do not have this perverse desire of which you speak. It is my opinion that the offers made to Gordon were too high and he was foolish for not accepting them. I think he is closer to an MLE player than a max player, but apparently others (BG) think otherwise.

The point of this article really is that there could be some very good bargains during this free agent market, because few teams will have cap space and the economy is in the tank.

Well, then, at 10mil per year, like what was proposed to him,

he’s closer to the MLE than to a max salary anyway !

The Game chose him !

shhh...

people think Deng’s making max money too.

That's exactly the point.

Ben Gordon turned down those offers…ostensibly because he views himself as a near max player…or at least believes his dollar value is higher than what was offered.

what did I say about the turning down $10m thing?

not to mention the story that he was going to accept it and then the Bulls pulled the offer?

stop annoying me.

Matt, only you can let him annoy you.

Otherwise, they are just vapid, irrelevant comments.

I never said anything about $10m

You must have replied to the wrong post.

I long hoped for this scenario

because then the Bulls could just steal him away at little over the MLE. But in reality, if this did occur, Ben would just sign a short term deal (most likely 1yr so he can be in the 2010 mix). Then we’d have to go through all this nonsense again, I’d rather they just offer the 6/58 again and hope Ben jumps at it (even though he already did once and the Bulls are idiots).

Let's not kid ourselves

The ‘09 free agent class is junk. When ’quality bigs’ includes Rasheed Wallace and Anderson Varejao, there’s not much quality.

Of the teams under the cap this year though (Atlanta, Memphis, Minny, OKC, Portland), I could all of them having interest in Gordon. Every team besides Portland needs another scorer to compete, meaning Gordon provides more value to them than Marion, Artest, Odom, and Kidd.
