Bulls not waiving Ruffin or Hunter
Ruffin would be owed an injury settlement if he's waived -- he has yet to play after spraining his left ankle in the preseason and suffering ensuing Achilles soreness -- so the Bulls want to get some return on their investment.
Hunter, who's averaging 3.6 points and 1.4 assists in 18 games, has been a positive influence on the team's younger players, particularly forward Tyrus Thomas and fellow point guard Derrick Rose.

What, exactly, do they expect Ruffin to offer as a "return on their investment"?
Darius Miles would provide a far better, actual return on investment. Straight cash, homey!
We have every right to dream heroic dreams. Those who say that we're in a time when there are no heroes, they just don't know where to look.
Ronald Reagan
A decent defender inside
I could see him being useful
I don't think he's a decent enough defender
he’s a decent rebounder

*I'm referring to Ruffin, not Miles.
You think Miles is a good interior defender?

I was talking about Ruffin too
I dont think Miles is a good anything
Plus...
2 more games played and we can screw over Portland’s salary space.
Nocioni has an Olympic gold medal, a bronze medal and a EuroLeague MVP, and now… His legs are broken! Coming to an arena near you.

Oh, I see what you did there... Well done.
From Blazers Edge…
“By playing ten games, Miles essentially proves the doctors wrong and, therefore, can’t legitimately be regarded as having a career-ending injury. Each non-taxpaying team would receive 1/30 of $7.9 million, or $263,300. That might not buy your team an impact player, but it’s more than chump change.”
It’s really a no-brainer.

Bulls should avoid Miles
The Bulls should avoid signing Darius Miles. We don’t want to burn our bridges with Portland trading wise. Especially if someone signs him before the trade deadline, we might be able to unload some contracts (Hinrich and Nocioni) for Raef Lafrentz.

meh
Ruffin could always be used as salary-matching in a trade.

Keeping Ruffin make a trade more difficult
Let me get this straight. We’re keeping a player that can’t play on our active roster because if we waived him we’d have to give him an injury settlement. That is, we’d have to pay him either way.
But by keeping him, he actually counts against the salary cap too, so it’s that much harder to make the trade(s) the team needs to make.
Brilliant.
De gustibus non est disputandum
This is really exciting news. Bulls keep both Ruffin and Hunter.
Now with Gray being out with tendinitis, it means more minutes open up for a true professional like Micheal Ruffin instead of our two immature brats who can’t play by the rules, especially when it comes to innapropriate snacking.
This move may also go a long way to solve the Bulls lack of inside scoring by adding Ruffin’s lifetime average of 1.8 ppg’s, especially if he plays alongside Hunter who has burning up the nets with his 3.6 ppg’s. Neither of these old pros have ever been accused of suffering hunger pangs before or during big games in their stellar careers.
These 2 pieces may also be just the missing pieces to complete a big trade before the deadline, especially now with the Celtics recent struggles may panic them into moving their ace forward, Brian Scalabrini, if the offer is sweet enough. Who knows, if we throw Tyrus Thomas into the mix, maybe they would consider trading their ultimate professional, Sam Cassell, although I realize he is older than Lindsey.

ruffin isn't going to play.
he’s pretty much going to be out the whole season from what i read.
the reason it’s annoying is because he was injured when he was resigned after originally waived, so i don’t get it.
re: Ruffin isn't going to play.
Thanks for clearing that up. Now it makes even less sense. Paxson must have something up his sleeve that we are all missing. Hopefully, it involves a trade for some talented big without giving up our young players with upside potential (i.e. Thabo, Tyrus, Noah, Hughes).
Sorry, just kidding about Hughes.

nothing to do with post
but does anyone else think that the Bulls dont utilize BG correctly, they should use more screens to get him a wide open look sort of like what they did in seattle with Ray allen to get him more looks i mean they do it in boston but they did it more often in seattle
they do that with ben
maybe once, twice a every other game.
there is a very strict quota on the number of actual plays they allowed to execute.
i’m all for using him in more of a reggie miller way, run him off a bunch of staggered screens, and get him open for a few shots a night. it’d wear his defender out as well
There was a stretch in December, where Gordon had some big games when we were running him off a ton of screens. (The Memphis game was in that cluster). But then we went away from it, even though it worked.
We should be doing a few things to establish Gordon on offense. First, run him off a ton of screens for some catch and shoot opportunities. Two, find him off passes out of the post and kick and drive passes for wide open threes. Three, give him a few opportunities a game to just go one on one. This would also happen when plays break down from time to time. Add up some fast break baskets (pull up threes, passes for a three on the wing or corner off a fastbreak, and layups) and I think we’d have a lot more productive Ben Gordon.
I remember in that Memphis game, where Ben was just running around, screen after screen all of the first half. O.J. Mayo was so tired from chasing Gordon around that he played like crap. Maybe Vinny is just avoiding tiring Gordon out, as he has to play 40-44 minutes a night for the Bulls to be competitive. But when Kirk comes back, and Gordon’s minutes go back down to the 34-36 minute range, we should run Ben around a lot more. He is in the shape to do so, so there’s no reason not to take advantage of it.
