So 12 months from now, don't be surprised if we're calling Westbrook the top guard from this rookie class.

Interesting that Westbrook is younger than Rose

Westbrook played two years of college ball yet he’s a full year younger than OJ Mayo, who played just one year.

wasnt oj a super senior in high school

or something…?
Also, i think that extra year in college helped westbrook develop some of those pg skills.

Yeah I'm just trying to figure out how Westbrook started college at 17

The extra year definitely helped. I don’t remember him even being on the radar his freshman year.

He was only a 3-star recruit out of high school, pretty nuts

I found this intresting

22 points, nine assists and six rebounds on the Knicks on Tuesday.

it was against the knicks, d’antoni inflates both his teams stats and the team they are playing stats! I think hollinger is wrong, i think westbrook might have a lot of potential in terms of skills, but d-rose physically has far more pottential to be well…unstoppable. Maybe westbrook might become a chris paul (doubt it) but d-rose has the ability to become a mini-lebron.

I'll admit that I haven't seen Westbrook play

so I would hate to dismiss him like that, but I have a hard time believing that he’s racking up these numbers under nearly the same circumstances Rose is. I mean, Derrick is THE focal point for the other team the entire game, he’s getting denied the ball all over the court, he’s getting double teamed constantly, he’s seeing the best defender the other team’s have to offer, yet he still finds ways to dominate games.

I’ll admit he has struggled as of late, but he’s basically carried this team on it’s back since day one. Westbrook has the comfort of being his team’s fourth option at times. I would really love to know if this means Hollinger would draft Westbrook ahead of Rose and Mayo at this point if he could do it over. It just seems like a guy trying to be outrageous, but who knows? I’m really looking forward to the OKC game all of a sudden.

I've seen Westbrook and think he is really good

(I’m a pac 10 guy) but I don’t see how 1 month of better play makes him all of the sudden better than Rose. Over the course of their careers Rose has been a better player. In Hollinger’s December comparison, Rose is averaging more points and assists than Westbrook and shooting only .03% lower. But he is playing 4 more minutes which contributes to a wide disparity in PER (which in truth is the only number that matters to Hollinger). Those are 4 wasted minutes Rose is playing in my opinion because the Bulls often have no direction on offense. Rose spends a considerable amount of time on the floor not involved in the offense.

I think Westbrook will be good (and he has athleticism and size similar to Rose) but I think Rose will be better because Rose is a pg where as Westbrook a combo guard. Rose numbers have come down as defenses started to game plan for him as the Bulls main weapon. If Westbrook ever gets that attention (he won’t) than his numbers will come down to. Hollinger is just trying to stir debate, which I guess(?) is his job.

Westbrook's a great young guard

just not a great young point guard.

eh atm id be inclined to say that about rose

Rose has a long way to go before he has those true pg skills everyone envisioned him having. Right now his athletic ability and ability to drive to the basket is whats really working for him. When he cant drive he is limited to what he can do. He seems to have genious court awareness, except…well the more i watch cp3 the more i have to say, cp3 couldve led this sorry excuse for a team, and ty and noah wouldve looked like studs….

rose is far from being at the level of cp3…..i dont think that will remain after a few years in the league though.

Rose is a rookie.

The important thing is the willingness to pass, the ability to get guys open, and the vision.

The leadership thing comes with time. :)
