nice play by gordon
if gordon did that 4 times [er night he would be worth 15 million

I don’t know what exactly it is, but whenever Nocioni IS NOT in the game, the team sure plays a lot better. Like, with more energy, more hustle, more “better”, etc.

Rose-Gordon-Deng-Hinrich-Thabo...
…if Thabo and/or Deng could develop a 35-38% 3pt shot, I could totally live with that.

My fault. Not as a lineup, as a PG-SG-SF rotation of the future.
Viva la nuance! Reading comprehension rules!!!
Future lineup, could it work?
Starters
Rose
Gordon
Deng
Thomas
Noah
Bench
Hinrich
Thabo
draft pick
Asik
Gray
blah blah, i’m too excited over one game.

Draft a good SF/PF combo...

pass from thabo to Rose for wide open circus dunk

Rose out of the timeout!
all he needs is 2 layups… or one layup and a massive windmill slam.. i’ll take it!
It feels great to win 3 in a row, to beat a decent team with a healthy roster.. the bulls finally show up some upside!
his 3 point shooting starter 0-10
since then he is shooting over 40% from beyond the arc and about 35% on the season.

I know we're all over-reacting in the midst of one game...
…but I truly do believe what we’re seeing tonight is what this team can aspire to. It’s not great, but it’s an starting lineup average age of 22.5. Give it three to four years and
Rose_Gordon_Deng_Thomas_Noah
and
Hinrich-Thabo_draft pick_Asik
might actually be something.

i absolutely adore gordon as 6th man
but methinks he wants to start.
let him start
especially if kirk is on the team
if rose starts off bad, he can sub for him, if gordon stops off bad, he subs for him.
There is not a better SG on the team and the only one in the league that would even possibly be available (Fernandez) would cost too much.

I don't know why
And I don’t know the numbers to support it, but I have a feeling that Tyrus plays better when he doesn’t fear to lose the starting place to other player. His best game last season was against Denver, after the trade with Cleveland, when couldn’t play (I think). Now, is showing some improvement, because Grays is not really an option and Gooden is out… Maybe that’s the problem. He fears that, if he makes some mistakes, he loses the starting place for another…
The era needs to end now!
Only on Blog-A-Bull do dumbass fans enjoy seeing the young talent playing good basketball! Start Aaron Gray! It doesn’t have an effect on the end result!

Great game
Blowout win against a quality Suns…Suns ain’t what they were but there’s still lots of talent.
Amare is overrated officially. Dude is an awful rebounder and defender. In 2010, let’s go for Bosh. Fuck Amare
The team has played better since Gooen’s been on the bench. Dude is awful. I don’t care if he gets a double double every now and again….his 20ft jumpers kill ball movement.
We could have been .500 if we shared the ball like this all season and played just mediocre D instead of the matador shit we were doing.
I’m down to keep everyone except Kirk, Noc, Hughes and Gooen. I still think we should hold onto Hughes until next year.
Thabo seems to be shaping into the Bowen/Battier glue gluy that I knew he could be. He’ll never score more than 12 in his career but if he can hit a couple threes and game and be able to rebound, assist and guard multiple positions…he’s gravy.
agree 100% on thabo
but he will have more offense than those guys. his assists go for dunks and he will be a better defender than battier. Thabo is more like a christie…a pippen lite…very lite. but thats still more than Bowen/battier. and rose will need at least 1 guy like that,
Agreed about Gooden. I'd really like to see him shipped out at the trading deadline with someone else for maybe a larger expiring.
He’s horrid and his presence really hurts the team.

by fundamentallysound on Jan 31, 2009 11:15 PM CST up reply actions
What's Kidd going to do?
He can’t shoot, can’t take anyone off the dribble. His only offense is jumpshots and backing smaller guards down. This is a backcourt the Bulls match up well with because Terry is someone BG can score on as well. Dirk is capable of winning a game by himself, though. You need the bigs to produce to win.

This is going to sound silly, but I'm alright with people missing those type of shots.
If it’s a clear shot, and it looks good off the fingers, then It’s alright with me. Shooters can’t make every basket, I guess. What I don’t like are chucked contested shots to the air, hoping it will hit the rim.
What pisses me off the most about Nocioni is his lack of patience, or lack of knowledge of how much his play has declined over the years. He can’t go a full game without getting the ball stripped out from under him at least twice in a game when driving. Or, as said ad nauseum, giving away bullshit fouls. That annoys the hell out of me.
It's really just used completely wrong far too often
Tyrus really was effective, in that lovable, slightly out of control, yet awesome Tyrus way.

But they deserve all the credit for just being active out there. Shaq and Amare could have went off, but they were stymied the whole night (at least as best as one could hope to stop them). BG with back to back solid games, hopefully the slump is over.

Difference between a goo shot and a bad shot
When I said that a bad shot is the one that not enters the basket, I said that because it’s what I believe. Some people, maybe because BG was the one who missed two wide open shots, started to attacking me. I might be mistaken; nobody’s perfect. So, I searched on the internet the difference between a god shot and a bad shot.
Barkley said one day
"The only difference between a good shot and a bad shot is if it goes in or not"
Well, I supose that nobody was convinced with that, so I looked further and found this, from Wikipedia.
A shot that misses both the rim and the backboard completely is referred to as an air ball. A particularly bad shot, or one that only hits the backboard, is jocularly called a brick.
Now, I now that Gordons shot hit the rim. But, if it hit the rim and didn’t enter, it was because something failed. Could be the balance, the focus, etc… There’s is so many things. And that’s why I said that. I know I might be wrong, but I’m just trying to explain my point. Just all…
Good night to you all
by bull83 on Jan 31, 2009 11:30 PM CST reply actions 1 recs
Isn't a "goo" shot anything put up by Goo'en?
Which by definition is a bad shot, so it’s a trick question and there is no difference. ;)

(And, if you’re wondering, a good shot to me is when you are: square to the hoop, snapping your knees, have your elbow at a right angle with your wrist, and following through with flicking your wrist at the end )
Ok Mr. Perfect
Right or wrong, my opinion is not going to change. This is similar to soccer. You can know the fundamentals and techniques to make a shot at goal. But you only have success if you beat the goalkeeper. If the ball hits the post, that doesn’t mean the shot was bad (depending on the situations), but it wasn’t a successful action – maybe the problem was using the word "bad" instead of not successful. Every sport has a goal. Score more points/goals/whatever than your opponent. You only win games if you hit those shots. If the ball hits the rim and comes out, you lose. Some situations have nothing to do with luck or bad luck. And the point was: with two wide open shots, BG missed both – he scored a lot, though. Ok, maybe I was a little harsh qualifying that shot as "bad". But I keep the same opinion: it wasn’t the best one either.
Not all good shots go in.
Even in shooting practice.
I don’t understand why this concept is so hard to grasp.

Well, I picked a lousy night to have a life outside of basketball
Home just in time to see the closing seconds. Now I’m really tempted to stay up and watch it tonight, but even fast-forwarding the nonaction stuff I don’t think I’d make it.
Box score looks like most of the team was pretty good, but I guess that’d have to be the case to beat the Suns.
Man-slave, bring me my PB&J!
I missed the whole thing,
worked until 11:30. :(

Some gems from the Wrap
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=290131021
Standard:
Leandro Barbosa led the Suns with a season-high 32 points.
Head scratcher:
The Bulls have won nine of their last 10 games against above .500 teams.
Wow! Was this really 1000 game threads
I just scanned through? LOL! Just another lovely, yet bittersweet Bulls vs Suns game, and a real treat in person. (I was lucky enough to see Jordan’s rookie year visit, and a few more in the ensuing years. But I haven’t made the Suns’ games a habit for a loooong, loooong time!) I almost forgot what a difference it makes to see them “live”.
Observations: Hughes wasn’t shooting warmups w/ the rest. I thought he might not even be dressed, but then there he was after the anthem, smiling and seemingly in good spirits. Deng, in his warmups, looks freaky. Like a stick daddy long legs spider man. Saw a guy in a white 9 Deng jersey run to catch his eye after the win, waving arms above the tunnel. Then I heard the guy’s accent in the men’s room, he was African. Cool! On the other hand, I also saw a nine year old in a “3 Wallace” T-shirt. Yikes! DRose looked to have NO legs on his shots (even lay ins!) during pre-game, so I wasn’t surprised when he missed ‘em early. But you never can tell (or count on the NBA back-to-back cliché?) when young legs are involved, ’cause he had two spectacular dunks and a great game. Ced Simmonds, on the other hand, made as many or more JUMPERS in pre game as anybody did (BG incl.).
Surprised no one (1000 comments! …lampnasty?) mentioned that PAX WAS THERE, glad handing various old NBA individuals, etc. When he got to Suns announcer Scottie Williams, Scottie shook hands and pointed over to “the spot” from ’93! Pax hung around quite a while and I found myself concentrating on his location, wondering if he’d wind up somewhere accessible and I could corner him for a short “interview”. But I lost him. And speaking of announcers, Stacey King needs a personal trainer/dietician BADLY. Dude is waaay wide!
Both teams started rather poorly, Suns missing many shots they usually make, and Bulls having only BG going. Besides Derrick’s early misses, the Suns and Hill were NOT letting Deng get off. The guards didn’t look to pass to Noah and Gray on s/r at all, even though they (especially Gray) seemed very open on the play in the first half. Overall, the Bulls had many more “head scratcher” plays, like one of Deng’s fastbreak turnovers when Noah really caused it by not being ready (then why are you running towards the basket, Jo?). And they definitely carried that “shaky young team” thing though out the whole game. But they also were really getting after it ("hustle"), seeming quicker/younger/hungrier, especially in the first half. I missed Rose’s injury late, if there was one. So that was weird, but Vinnie having Kirk on Nash at the end was a good idea. He was really “in his grill” in the closing minutes as Nash aggressively tried step it up and get the win.
Tyrus does a lot of talking, but I wasn’t close enough to gauge the talking on defense. It was funny to see TT go to the refs with his eye and brow gestures after they took his good block away though. You could really sense how confident BG is against a team with poor perimeter D like the Suns. Last time I saw them in person, Chandler and Sweetney were still on the team, and it was just the same as then. He just knew he wouldn’t be bothered enough by them, no matter how tough a shot he attempted. They’re really trying to work the ball to Deng, which is totally different than it was before he came back. And even though it wasn’t working early, it paid off in the 4th. There was no “disappearing” from the Bulls 3 spot, whether it was Lu, Thabo, or whoever. Oh yeah, re: Thabo. You can’t believe how good the dude’s hands are just from watching on TV. If the ball is in reach, you just know that he’ll wind up with it somehow. And he really did have those 2 blocks (only one credited) and rebounds and a made basket in three possessions. Also, great to see him NOT PULL THE STRING on that 3 ball at the end when he had all the time in the world to “think” about it.
Okay, here’s where every other BaBer is gonna get angry: VDN appears to be a heck of a coach, based on his interactions with the players. At time out, he talks to the assistants for 20 seconds or so, then goes to the team with his clipboard. All the while he is completely in charge. Only time I saw a lack of attention was when Kirk had an issue with an offensive foul that he didn’t get the chance to beef at Jim Clark about. And the plays from the time outs were some of the best they ran (for this game, anyway). Also, he was most impressive when talking with a player right after they’d been substituted for. This happened numerous times (reviewing, teaching?), and though I haven’t a clue what was said, each time the player appeared to respond positively. TT, Noah and Gray, Rose, Thabo. Even Deng and Noc.
After it was over, I just had to talk to a guy in Bears gear who was quite vocal in support of Derrick and Tyrus, especially. I said, “They played really well tonight”, and he totally dissed them: “They’re terrible. The Bulls are a horrible team”, and laughing. Reminded me of a lot of the illogical, shall we say, folks here. But I don’t think he was “lampnasty”, ‘cause he was up well behind me in row 18 or so!
Some may be interested to note that tonight’s Bulls loss makes it the first losing month for the Suns since April 2004, before Nash was signed. So you can say what you will, but that coupled with a three game road “streak” for “us” (on a b-t-b, no less) made for a thoroughly enjoyable, yet bittersweet evening’s entertainment for me. Wish I had a game copy.

Not that
lampnasty is illogical in any way!
But I am jealous of his second row luck tonight!

There is the possiblity that VDN is learning from his mistakes.
There are coaches who were terrible in their first job (e.g. Stan van Gundy) who are now among the better coaches.
Maybe we can?

I think[hope?] he is.
I mean, he’s sitting Larry Hughes.
