John Paxson and his decisions

A lot of fans here want to blame Paxson for why our team is doing bad. They sort of use him as a scapegoat for our failures. But I'm writing this post to remind you guys that it's not his fault at all.

Star-divide

Alright, the bulls obviously need a big man that can provide a post presence and so that they could go to him whenever the guards or forwards were off. We as the bulls have had this problem for about 5 years or so. And so for the past 3 draft picks, besides Derrick Rose, Paxson has picked up big man who he thought could score down low, provide a post presence, and defend the paint.

It may have been sort of his fault for not seing truly inside of them. But all of the bulls faults are not his. The real problem is the people who he picked. Tyrus does not bring it to the game, neither does Joakim.

But guys, I REALLY hope that you will be patient. Everytime you go on here as fans, just remember that they are still young and that they are still growing. What do you expect out of a team with a rookie coach AND a rookie point guard.

Pax picked up rose last year because he thought that we needed more time. And so, I'm asking you guys to stop blaming. And just be PATIENT. This team will grow, I know that for sure. They just need time.

I appreciate all of you for spending your time on here because it helps me to know that I'm not the only fan right now that cares about the Bulls.

P.S. Thanks you guys, for everything, and most importantly for your thoughts.

Your fellow Bull fan...

Danny Park.

Sure patience is needed, but Tyrus has been in the league for 3 yrs, and

guys in yr 3 should break out, and Tyrus shows he has low basketball IQ

What happens when Kirk comes back?

by Nextgen on Jan 3, 2009 6:01 PM CST reply actions

yup

even though he has low bball IQ, he still has some raw talent waiting to be used. So all we gotta do is just wait!!

by dannyp07 on Jan 3, 2009 6:03 PM CST up reply actions

Folks said the same about Chandler though

Tyrus is still 22…..it took Chandler what 6 years and folks are still really waiting on Curry :)…

Give it some time, Tyrus has potential, greater potential than Chandler…..even though it’s frustrating to watch him at times, he can do things that few players can do.

Worst thing I think is to trade Tyrus alongside a Hughes just to rid ourselves of Hughes and then in 2 years see Tyrus THomas mature into the player his athleticism and vast array of raw skills indicate.

I still hope they retain Tyrus….even though he’s a big reason for our lack of current success.

Tyrus can improve his game

I responded to “all we gotta do is just wait!!!” As in, just waiting is enough to turn this team around. Just waiting could turn this team into a 5-seed, which doesn’t interest me.

by YaoPau on Jan 6, 2009 8:49 AM CST up reply actions

Not if Tyrus

matures into his athleticism/skill set. We’d have a superstar in Tyrus and a superstar in Rose paired with 3 great #2/#3 caliber players arguably in Luol, Gordon, Hinrich…

Though considering the slow progress on Tyrus (there is progress) it’s not likely to happen, and least not on the Bulls….

by majoyenrac on Jan 6, 2009 1:12 PM CST up reply actions

"a superstar in Tyrus?"

name another superstar who struggled this much in his first three years.

by YaoPau on Jan 6, 2009 2:33 PM CST up reply actions

Sorry, some of my patience run out

Until I see Pax doing something good and turn this team around again, I will ask for his head. And Rose shouldn’t count as a good thing that Pax made, because he did what any GM would have done if he had the chance. Rose was the obvious pick. Not Beasley, not Mayo. ROSE

by bull83 on Jan 3, 2009 6:08 PM CST reply actions

exactly

Pax realized that we needed a true leader that would do everything for the team. And thats why he picked a true leader like Rose. Good point though.

by dannyp07 on Jan 3, 2009 6:10 PM CST up reply actions

also!

I actually encourage you guys to give Pax for thanks for picking Rose. He realized our problem, and that was that we didn’t have a true leader. Give thanks to Pax cause i could tell that he took a lot of time to think what of what the bulls needed when he realized that we got the first draft pick.

by dannyp07 on Jan 3, 2009 6:14 PM CST up reply actions

Come on man!

Paxson gets ZERO credit from me for picking Rose. To use a basketball metaphor, that was a layup. If he didn’t luck out on that pick, we’d be even more of a laughing stock than we already are.

Our problem?! Are you kidding?

Not having Rose was not our problem. He already had a reasonable PG. The lack of a good PF was our problem. But since Rose was there, and everyone thought, including me, that he’s going to be one of the best players in the NBA, Pax didn’t really had a choice… Now, he just needs to prove that he can build a good team around Rose, like Boston did around Pierce, like San Antonio did around Duncan, like Lakers did around Kobe, and so on, and so on… I bet if Kevin Pritchard was our GM instead of Pax, he already had done some sort of trade…

by bull83 on Jan 3, 2009 6:32 PM CST up reply actions

The Pax issues are

Unfortunately drafting Tyrus over Lamarcus Aldridge…..even if in 2-3 years from today Tyrus reaches that potential and is better than LMA, LMA is clearly a player we could have used to pair alongside the fading Ben Wallace last year.

Not knowing enough about Noah’s character and choosing him over the offensive ticket we needed in the ever improving and younger Spencer Hawes….. I do think Noah is better than he’s shown, but him not being a “character guy” like Pax claimed the team had is ridiculous.

Overpaying for Luol Deng was tough to stomach. We had a reasonable replacement locked in on the books in Nocioni (not as good, but not as far off as folks wanted). We had the better Gordon coming up at the same time….that was tough to stomach.

Over valuing his scouts on Thabo Sefalosha and letting JR Smith go for nothing. Smith’s a headcase, sure, but is he that much more a headcase than Noah? No….and a Smith-Gordon lightening rod tandem would be scary for a full 48 minutes…..hopefully with them playing very few minutes together, though Smith could perhaps give a spell to Deng. Worse still is letting him go for nothing.

Ben Wallace of course, enough said. Had we just kept CHandler though and not done the Wallace deal, we’d be pretty decent….not a contender perhaps but well on the way….

But the absolute worst thing is he allowed Skiles to seemingly pick and choose the players early on (pre Tyrus I guess) and so we were stuck with a bunch of hard working, decent players in lew of the stars we needed. Then Skiles (who had a penchant for buring out his teams) burned out our team and we mismatched talents all over the place.

Paxson might be able to rectify this year and a half of Bulls fan misery with the necessary right trade this offseason (I say go for AK47, Marion, Millsap and include anyone but Rose to try to get it done)….I would imagine BG would love to play on a contender and forfeit his bird rights to do so because he’s already looking at a better than $60M contract next year, and a Williams-Gordon-Korver-Okur-Millsap and of course 1 of Boozer and AK47 would be awesome when healthy.

Bulls could use either AK47 or Boozer….and frankly while Boozer’s the better offensive player, Kirilenko, the post defender we need, and the guy who can guard the best opponent player, might be more the glue guy we lack.

Bulls retain Hinrich and play a
Rose-Hinrich-Deng-AK47-Noah team for now…..with Tyrus on the bench. We likely lose Gooden in this deal but get a few solid players from the Jazz or picks, and still retain Hughes for the likely trade bait next year. I wouldn’t care if we parted ways with Noah either…

Boozer might work too, but I think the Bulls have to be the aggressor more so in that deal, and I think with Kirilenko, perhaps the Jazz give up a bit more on paper.

You should be careful what you wish for, it just might happen.

Rose would have been better off playing in Miami next to Wade under a real coaching staff.

by Granny Waiters on Jan 3, 2009 7:01 PM CST up reply actions

Under Erik Spoelstra?!

He might be good, but not that good. The Heat are over .500 only because of one person: Dwayne Wade. He’s having a hell of a year. Not because Spoelstra methods…

Neither

D’Antoni, Thibodeau or Avery Johnson

Any one of those three could have been hired in the offseason

And all three of them would have been massive upgrades over VDN.

yeah exactly

he really did get lucky getting the first pick. But he used it wisely. Thats why i saying that we should just thank him more instead of blaming him for our problems.

Danny Park AKA

John Paxson. Hey, Park spelled backwards is what this is. If Paxson doesn’t make a trade by the deadline I’m done watching them this season. I can’t take time away from my family by watching the game to be disappointed. At least when they were better team my family was interested in watching the games with me.
