That's what I thought.

I like how Ben Gordon disappears from the Bulls after they make the trade for Ellis and the trade for Kaman, both of which doesn’t involve him.

And then he uses Rip Hamilton, who the media is criticizing the Pistons for benching, and Manu Ginobili, who is on a championship contender to knock Gordon for not accepting the sixth man role. How is coming off the bench on a championship contender comparable to coming off the bench on one of the worst teams in the league?

Its ridiculous

Hamilton comes off the bench because detroit has 2 shooting guards and a combo guard all of about equal ability. Chcago clearly doesnt have that issue. And with all due respect to Pop, the Ginobli thing has always been a silly gimmick, one which is jettisoned at the first sign of trouble (e.g. the New Orleans series last year).

by TheMoon on Jan 26, 2009 4:28 PM CST up reply actions

And by "exactly," what I mean is that we have three guards of fairly equal ability levels.

Especially if you’re talking about their all-around game. They all have flaws. BG’s flaws are clearly ball handling, passing, and defense.

by Diz on Jan 26, 2009 7:28 PM CST up reply actions

who is the second shooting guard?

look, gordon is a shooter. heinrich is a combo. rose is either a combo or a point. gordon gets the 2 spot because he is the best shooter of the bunch. will you start kirk over rose? there is no dilemma here.

It would

be Thabo if he could shoot…

This was hilarious and awesome.

It reminded me of those times on Muppet Babies when Gonzo would throw his nose into the air and go ballistic. That’s what the Bulls’ ineptitude has done to Sam Smith. He held it in…held it in…and just went gonzo.

Re: Miller, Kaman

I’ve changed my mind-I’d rather have Pryzbilla.

With our shooters

jumpalot all of them, Przyz is the better option anyway.

See rim. Go there. See ball. Get ball. See Rose. Pass to him. Repeat.

sad
Cuban is saying players may become available, like Pau Gasol last season, for economic reasons with the economy reeling and teams beginning to feel the effects of sponsorship declines.

Unfortunately, the Bulls will act like one of the ‘reeling’ teams and not take advantage.

That Warriors trade was RIDICULOUS

We couldn’t get Monta for Hinrich, Noc, and Tyrus… and he’s thinking we can get Maggette and Brandan Wright. Eesh.

they supposedly already want out from under Maggette's deal

he is the ideal $50mil bench player for us

combine that with taking on about a billion in guaranteed money for a 5 seed team and Pax should be all over this trade

by reprisal on Jan 26, 2009 4:51 PM CST up reply actions

I realize that, but

no GM is dumb enough to trade for a starting lineup of Hinrich-Crawford-Stephen Jackson-Noc-Biedrins. Not to mention Brandan Wright is putting up serious numbers in limited action.

I was just pointing out that Maggette isn't an asset

I dunno... there seems to be some bad blood over Ellis' injury.

And I’ve heard they desperately want to be rid of Maggette

But still how can you simultaneously pine for putting Ben Gordon on the bench and trading for Monta Ellis. Even if you think Monta is a better player, is he really that much better? Is he any sort of a fit next to Rose, or do you really want two guards who can’t shoot? It’s just crazy.

Along with Maggette who’s on the fast track to being the Larry Hughes of tomorrow.

I like Brandan Wright. And in the abstract I like Monta Ellis. But this is just freaking goofy. But still Sam’s gotta come up with something.

by Sports2 on Jan 26, 2009 3:19 PM CST up reply actions

I think the omission speaks for itself

Gordon can score, but he won’t be doing it for the Chicago Bulls anymore.

If I have to factor the biggest gamble of extending Deng, extending Gordon, playing Thomas, or playing Noah, I’ll always come away thinking extending Gordon was the biggest gamble.

Sam talks about Ben’s scoring as difficult to replicate, but how difficult can it be if you’re on a roster with an atrocious defense?

12/31: Fire Vinny Del Negro.

by NBA Observer on Jan 26, 2009 3:43 PM CST up reply actions

Just as difficult?

What does an atrocious defense have to do with our offense? Without BG, we’ll be a team with an atrocious defense AND an atrocious offense, which is, to say…even worse than what we are now.

Not really sure what you’re getting at here.

Whatever.

It’s semantics, anyways. We would be mega-atrocious on offense without BG. How do ya like them apples?

The poor defense leads to rushed offense

Gordon misses so many assignment it’s pathetic. But he rarely misses an opportunity to dribble out the shot clock and force a bad shot or just turn it over.

With Hughes on the roster the last thing I want to see is Gordon miss a few games. However, if we didn’t have Hughes I’d love to see no Gordon to see what the team produces.

Ben was on the best defensive team in the league

He’s not the problem with the defense…look down low.

This is just wrong

Watch Ben Gordon after the opponent puts up a shot. He’s a spectator. Just like Noc, the two of them think defense is between you and the basketball and nobody else is out there. This is rec league defense.

Box out any opposing shirt in your proximity and go get the flipping basketball. Gordon misses this assignment on a regular basis.

Ellis can shoot

He just can’t shoot from distance.

I don’t get the enthusiasm to pair Ellis with Rose. They seem like the same player with Rose being a better passer and defender and Ellis having the superior mid range game and finishing ability. I know Ellis plays almost no defense, but excuse for the Nellie-ball effect. I do think if a coach asked him to play defense it might spook him out of his terrific offense.

The real problem would be Rose, Ellis, and Deng on the court together. You’d have almost no perimeter shooting threat.

by NBA Observer on Jan 26, 2009 3:50 PM CST up reply actions

Agreed

This team would be desperate for 3s. We’d have a rotation that features Rose, Ellis, Deng, Maggette, Thabo. They might challenge for fewest 3s made in a season since the 80s.

by CJ Bulls on Jan 26, 2009 4:20 PM CST up reply actions

And if anyone thinks BG is selfish

Wait till they see Maggette play. The guy plays every game like he’s going to get a new contract.

gets to the line though

Is tall enough to finish? Does he turn it over as often as Ben?

I think Maggette will look like trash playing in the Nellie ball system. He’ll be most effective in a slow half court game with a strong defense that gets him transition opportunities.

Maggette sucks. He just cares about getting his number. He is the epitome of black hole. He gets the ball and charges head down into the lane. Sure he goes to the lane but dude never ever passes and plays no D. Not worth 10 mill a year for sure.
